Someone told me the GIF freezing issue would be fixed in the next stable release. Well, here it is, and the issue has not been fixed. Awesome.

Yeah, no kidding.

I do find that GIFs start up again when you open it separately in a new tab, then go back to the original tab it came from.

Good lord, wth have they dove with the font rendering. It was perfect until v22. Now i'm trying canary (basically v25) and font are still f***** up meaning the future v23, 24 and probably 25 will get fuzzy fonts...
Right now i'm switching between chrome v19 & Firefox 16.

YES YES YES! This is absolutely horrible and unacceptable! Text is plainly unreadable, and the Chromium team refuses to do a thing about it, closing a huge discussion saying the problem is closed even though it isn't.

I'm never touching a Chromium browser again until it is fixed, I use Opera now.

Someone make a separate thread about this, it deserves way more attention to add pressure. I would if I could.

My chrome refused to open any links I clicked from Steam chat, and it would run flash adverts on pages like yahoo even with it locked down, this "stable" release is fucking up.

Simply switching to another tab and back to the one with the broken GIF seems to make it start animating for me again, but it's very easy to break it again by just scrolling up and down the page a bit.

Anyone else have chrome not save login information when you close the browser and re-open it? It used stay logged in to gaf, but not anymore.

On Windows 7 you can mute per application (open the mixer), is it that?

Is it muted by a plugin?

nope :(

It happened to me yesterday with everything flash related on chrome, in that case what I did is: go to chrome://plugins/ in the url bar, expand plugin details and then deactivate pepflashplayer.dll under Flash.

If it is more than just flash though, I have no idea.

:) Your welcome I guess, I wish flash died already and everything moved to HTML5, it's been mostly fine on my pc but it has given me a lot of trouble with the computer I use at my workplace.

For those having problems with Gifs in Chrome, I advise to update to the latest beta-dev versions (they're the same). It VASTLY improves GIF and image loading here. It was extremely sluggish scrolling down the page in past versions, this one fixes it.

How does one do this?

I've been reading 'the next update fixes GIFs' for maybe 8 months now. :|

Update: Nope, still chugs on even a fairly mundane GAF thread with gifs. I assume whatever the problem is will never be resolved.

This is getting weirder all the time
A whole culmination of things is seriously making me doubt Chrome now. This GIF stuff, YouTube acting up constantly in the past 6 weeks or so and a specific sound issue of mine.

I use a USB Sound Card when using my earphones because the earphone jack in my laptop is fucked. A couple of days ago I lost sound when watching a YouTube video so I took out the sound card and refreshed, and it worked fine through speakers. Put the earphones in again, and no sound. Rinse and repeat. I was convinced my sound card was broken, but then tried iTunes just to make some sound and that worked fine. Turned out my sound card is fine, Chrome just doesn't like it anymore. This is hugely frustrating

I've had to go back to the default Browser on Android, Chrome is just unusable. Browser is made by Google too, right? And that's stable as anything, I don't think I've experienced one crash. Chrome crashes every 5 minutes, I can't believe they thought it was in a release-worthy state.

I agree that Chrome on Android is a bit disappointing. The problem with third party keyboards existed for months before they fixed it. I think maybe they only properly test it on Nexus devices. The stock browser on a GS3 is more stable and doesn't seem to be any slower.

I think Chrome is still the best browser on the desktop though. I love the pace of innovation in Chrome. How strange now to think of MS not improving IE6 for five years because they didn't have any major competition and thought the browser was pretty much a done deal. Fucking Microsoft.

It doesn't crash on me but its noticeably slower here. I much prefer the stock browser.

That's a shame. What's tour GPU? The difference is night and day here. In the past, browsing through the "Pics that make you laugh" thread was a chore, it would randomly stutter, but things are pretty smooth now. It also improved its score in numerous benchmarks.

It's the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. IE's the Hare and the other browsers are all tortoises. When Netscape Tortoise dropped behind, Mr. IE Hare thought he had it in the bag and decided to take a nap to celebrate his victory. While he was sleeping he didn't realize there was a whole family of tortoises slowly creeping up behind him and eventually passing him by. By the time he woke up he had been passed by three other Tortoise family members. Still groggy from his long nap, Mr. IE Hare is still struggling to remain equivalent to his Tortoise family rivals.

Or something. I believe that's how the book went when I was a kid.

on my S2, android chrome keeps hanging randomly whenever the stock keyboard comes up.
It also hangs often when switching between apps and Chrome.
I love the interface and the swipe to next tab window, but it is highly unstable.

IE6 was a time when activeX plugins were all the rage for rich media and interactivity features which could be added interdependently. Browsers were designed to show documents. IE6 was doing all sorts of proprietary stuff because there was not much of an idea of web standards back then. Then along came the WC3 which wanted to bring all browsers to the same spec. Of course once people realized it takes about 5 years to pass through a standard they started adopting draft standards to make their browsers better and more modern seeming. Chrome team has taken this to an extreme adopting Google own proposed early draft standards. It's essentially implement now and get developers then they have leverage to pass their own standards over others. Chrome doesn't implement Microsoft's CU-RTC-Web WebRTC standard for instance but they do with their own and it's really, really early. It's a politics game.

Did anybody notice how popup notifications don't appear at the specified location anymore but fly accross the entire screen until they stop there? This is extremely distracting.

Chrome really needs to stop getting worse with every update.

Those sound like the exact problems I'm having on my S2. A lot of times when the keyboard appears (doesn't matter which keyboard it is, I've tried stock, SwiftKey, Swype and Smart Keyboard, happens on all of them), it'll hang, sometimes completely so I have to restart the phone. It does the same thing a lot when switching back to Chrome from another app. Sometimes it can be loading a page and just hang half way though for seemingly no reason.

I'm amazed Google didn't test it more - it's not like the S2 is some obscure phone which hardly anyone owns, after all.

Is this on Windows? On OS X Chrome utilizes Mountain Lion's Notification Center API which is pretty nice.

The only bug I have had in OS X Chrome since version 22 is certain pages disabling two-finger swipe for back and forward. Like something is taking focus and conflicting. And it's no longer just pages with visible Flash embedded. It's really annoying when I am swiping back and all of a sudden am stuck on a page and have to click the button instead.

I had this problem too. Fixed it by changing my sound from "Quadraphonic" to "stereo". Fixes it for now. They said they are working on a fix.

Well, after the last flash update, youtube fullscreen is no longer working.
It goes fullscreen, the audio keeps going, but the video shows nothing.
Any idea on how to resolve this?

Ok for the past couple of months Chrome has been doing this thing were it freezes my laptop, proceeds to make the screen go black, and then comes back with a message that reads :Display Drivers have crashed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled chrome three times and it still happens. HELP!

Window 7 Ultimate.
Only happens when using chrome. :/
I am betting it's one of the experimental features of GPU accelleration or something. There's options in about:flags you can try to disable or enable. Look for anything that has to do with the GPU or drawing of the screen. What kind of Graphics card do you have?

Also look for some logs or something. OS X has a console where this is all put, I don't know where Windows dumps its errors and crash logs.

(Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family and seems all hardware accelleration is disabled.
