The setting UI/UX on N is looking great.
And that double tap to recent app is God tier.
Holy shit that OTA is a gig in size. (1103.2 MB)
I was looking for that. I guess it didn't make the cut.But dark mode disappeared... AGAIN![]()
Wasn't able to view at work. Can someone give me a breakdown of what's been revealed and what we're freaking out over?![]()

Where can I get this update?Updated to Android Wear 2.0 first, oh boy this is he update we've been waiting for.
First impression: A full circular UI, it is absolutely glorious. Of course no standalone apps yet, but just what it needed.
Absolutely love it.

Why bother with Allo when you aren't releasing it? Just wait to announce it when you're ready.
Because Google wants to steal the thunder of Apple announcements at WWDC, which is next month. They do these premature announcements every year.
I will say that Allo looks extremely impressive though, if it actually works as promised. Apple better have some big Siri news coming up or they're going to look more and more behind the times on assistant tech.

Allo looks awesome...
but why not just incorporate it into hangouts? It's practically already their whatsapp and messenger app.
Maybe Allo is just a jumping off point and they'll incorporate it into hangouts down the line?
Is Hangouts even popular ? I feel like once they got rid of Google talk people moved away to something else.
The main developer of Allo also stated that Allo is brand new form scratch, code wise. Hangouts probably has a lot of Talk and Google voice code that would weigh it down.
Also hangouts requires you to have a Google account, where as Allo is like WhatsApp and all you need is a mobile number to use it.

i need google home like yesterday.
anyone want to buy an echo dot?
But why? What are people doing with their Echo? Do you have internet light bulbs? I still don't get the appeal.
Yeah.
If you're not going to automate your home I find it pretty useless.
But if you are going to automate it.
But why? What are people doing with their Echo? Do you have internet light bulbs? I still don't get the appeal.
I use smart home devices (philips hue, nest, web, belkin wemo). Google Home enables it to link to my google account (email, youtube red, google play). Echo can't.
The biggest thing is chromecast audio compatibility to have music playing in individual rooms or multiple rooms at once. That, and I only have 200 songs on amazon... whilst on my google play account I have a streaming subscription addition to my full uploaded collection of music.
Are there internet coffee machines? Internet ovens? Those could be useful. But just for a bunch of light bulbs? I don't know, I don't see it yet. Don't get me wrong, I love me some gadgets man, but this I can't wrap my head around. I just don't see myself asking that thing what the weather is like when I could tap twice on my phone instead.
Where can I get this update?
Also, will any device with Google assistant be able to control smart appliances like Google home?
Why do they keep coming up with more and more messaging apps? The transition from Talk to Hangouts and the wait for SMS integration in Hangouts was already a clusterfuck. Why do that again??
I'm liking what I'm hearing about Allo, but why not just add those features to Hangouts?
Hopefully they'll offer seamless migration from Hangouts to Allo via an update. I really don't want my friends scattering to different services because of this. Though even a mere name change might throw some of them off.
My guess is Google is trying to position Allo as a serious iMessage competitor by integrating SMS and the assistant stuff. Right now not being "blue text bubbles" with iPhone friends means you're a second-class citizen. It's been a good marketing strategy for Apple. I think Google wants to create a messaging service that is as desirable. Whether that will be the case any more than their previous messaging apps is a big question.
But having an assistant snooping all your conversations is not necessarily an awesome thing for fans of privacy.
So the main thing is that you just want to be able to say "OK Google, play me some Bieber in the living room", instead of having to tap maybe three times on your phone to accomplish the same thing? I mean sure, it's a bit more convenient! But until you have a large network of smart home stuff I don't really see the big draw. As for the conversational stuff, your phone can do the same thing. The difference I guess is being able to just "talk to your home". Which is perhaps cool, but yeah, to me it just seems slightly more convenient than using your phone for the same things. Like smartwatches.

Well, one downside with hangouts at my company has been the requirement for google accounts. If I understand correctly this new allo/duo would only require an phone-number.
Got to admit, as an developer working for an company that have been going in the progressive web app direction(and polymer) last few years, what google is saying is incredibly validating and fun to hear.always fun betting on the right horse so to speak.
Thanks. Hoping to install soon. Liking the look of the new app drawer. UI updates needed so I'm glad they're still improving.https://developer.android.com/wear/preview/index.html
Best change so far is controls replacing the watch face when you're playing anything with music controls.
My concern with basing it on mobile numbers is that, while it might be more convenient in the near term, it further entrenches the cellular + internet paradigm, as opposed to moving us towards an all data/internet future.
I don't keep my phone in my hand 24/7. It's really simple.
How is it more convenient?
Saying, "ok google, set kitchen lights to full brightness, set alarm for 20 minutes, and play my playlist" is only one step.
