Google+ |OT| A New Social Network

A chrome extension that added the Google bar to the top of any page you go to would do wonders for G+.

Is it possible to integrate your buzzes or +1s into your stream? I have been using the +1 in Google searches, but they just go into the +1 tab in my G+ profile.

Just did. That's true. The only plus to messages is that it's more organised.

That's where the searching part comes into it :) I hope they make it as easy to search through my wall as it is to search for mail in Gmail.

Custom stream filters would also be good (if they don't already exist)

+username label system could be implemented, just like in Gmail.

I'm going to say this now, but I think Google+ is going to do to Social Networks what Gmail did to web base email services.

That's one bold claim :p

I hope that does happen. Would make me happy.

Questions:

1. Where does it say that google + invites have been turned off? I see it no where in my stream.

2. What is the difference between tagging someone (+Username) and when posting something taking out the circles and just putting one persons name in there?

Love the +username thing!!

It's like Twitter's Direct Message, but better! In Twitter you can't DM multiple people AFAIK. In G+ I was able to "+username" three friends of mine, and the post on the stream was only accessible by them. Also another friend of mine couldn't see the post in my stream (wall) since he was not included. Mind you, all of them are in the same Circle.

This is awesome!!

can't you do pretty much the same thing in Facebook when you post a status update, by selecting to limit the post to only specific friends or specific groups of friends? maybe G+ just makes it a little easier.

It's pretty much the same thing. If you start a post with +Username, then he's added in the circle section at the bottom also. Be careful though, I just tried that and the circle section already had "Public" in it, and it just added his name to it, so the post would have gone out to everyone PLUS him - not the most intuitive thing in the world

I was trying Huddle in the morning and it's pretty cool. I just wish there was a way to get notified on the browser if someone invited me to chat on Huddle.

Just got on last night.

I have to say that, although I love Google services, I think Google+ suffers from the typical Google problem of being initially confusing. For the first few moments I was never quite sure what page I was on, and adding people to circles (specifically, their correct email address) was a little awkward, and had I not already known that it was Google+'s defining feature, I might not have bothered with it. It's also not immediately apparent how much power you have over the privacy levels of the stuff you share.

Of course, I eventually figured this all out, but if Google wants this to really take off the should really make all these defining features a little more obvious.

Yeah, the circle section defaults to the last circle(s) you posted to according to the settings. I was trying to find a way to make it default to a specific group, but no luck.

I know I'm talking out my ass, but I'm already noticing how my circles are like my labels in Gmail.

G+ really helps mute the noise when I want to, and just keep my eyes on Friends and Family. Yet, I can still bug out and have some fun on the GAF circle.

Not sure if it's a bug or a feature, but I think the system remembers the last privacy setting from your last post. They need to change that.

There's NO official GAF group as G+ has no groups system.

Some people have GAF members in circles but it's not complete and doesn't work in the traditional group way.

edit: I agree with you on that. Best thing about G+

Yeah, I sent feedback stating that the sharing field when making a post should always be empty and should never default to any previously used circle or person.

It would be officially the best thing ever if Mr Gaf himself added a +1 button to every post. That way, a GAFfer could +1 the post to his circle of GAF buddies to draw their attention to a post.

I could see it really being useful for time limited threads: Something like "New game XYZ limited beta signups TODAY" or "24 hour sale at Steam / GOG" - someone +1s that and we all get to benefit.....

eh, that would be a pain in the ass, but at least never default to public

gaining gaf circles works on a ripple effect - you make a post in your gaf circle and everyone in it responds. now on the theory that you will be in their gaf circle the ripple spreads, with the effect being that you will see everyone who replies to their reply even those not currently in your circle. you can then add those people you haven't already into your own gaf circle

Ha! I also sent feedback on this - I suggested that the moment you mention someone at the start of a post using + it should remove the public tag when it adds them to the post..

As an aside, the google feedback tool is really nifty. It takes a screengrab, allows you to highlight certain areas, black out certain parts of personal information and annotate as appropriate. From a support perspective, that is an absolutely amazing tool....

Ha. Yep, they have a good defect tracking tool and I am glad they are making it available for the end user because it really helps capture the defect or place of focus for feedback.

Someone should getting working on a chrome/firefox addon.

OH SHIT INSTANT UPLOAD IS THE FUCKING SHIT! We're finally getting feature parity with the sidekick2! OHMYGOOOOOOOOOOD, this is so great. G+ is a little overwhelming to take in all at once, but so far there is a lot of good and very little bad.

I don't get the hype for auto image upload.

I wouldn't want every random pic I take online.
Why? You just take the photos and sort it out later. It's not like they're public or anything. It was actually INSTANT, too. It wasn't 4 or 5 or even 30 seconds. I pressed the shutter button on my phone and refreshed my Mac and the photo was there. Thats soooooooooo ill.

I feel like Google is FINALLY starting to put all the pieces together. The APP is so nice. The + App is the nicest thing on my phone right now. Oh my god, if they redo all their native apps to match it.

I am really enjoying + so far. The whole circles concept is what makes it work for me, I love that I can pick from all my circles when posting something.

How does this work? I've taken pictures and they weren't uploaded.

Did you set the G+ application to auto upload? There's also a "only on wifi" setting.

I like MS's implementation of it with WP7. All my photos upload/backup to Skydrive, and the album has a privacy setting I can change. I wouldn't want all pictures I take uploading to a public album on my page.

They don't, they upload to a private album that's linked to picasa.

It was set to mobile network. Do I have to take the picture in the google+ app? I just realized you could do that. I had tried taking a picture just with the camera app and it didn't upload.

G+ defaults to a private album, too.

Nope, it looks at the "camera" folder on your phone, so you can use any camera app.

It's funny, all the settings combined match what Apple is introducing with ios5 and syncing the camera roll.

I guess if the upload is to a private album by default then it's not too bad.

Would be great for family get togethers and parties.

They should make two camera shortcuts. One that uploads to + and one that doesn't.
Basically one for homegrown porn and one for everything else.

When I first started using Facebook. It confused the hell out of me. But after a time, I began to understand it ( still don't get most of it. you can't even edit your comments? wtf.)

It seems as if the people who are using G+ now and find it confusing, had in the back of the minds, the idea that it'd function to the way they're used to. In a facebook way, so to speak. Which is a faulty way of thinking in my opinion.
If you've always been using a Windows machine, you will sure as hell be confused when you first get your hands on a Mac machine and vice versa. It's not a flaw, but a different experience that you need to accomodate and adapt to.

If you reshare something, only the original post is shown.

If you add someone to the permissions they will see the post and comments.

Someone should confirm that just to be on the safe side.

i agree, but too many options may confuse people and slow down adoption. Its great for some of us, but hopefully its easy enough for mom and dad

i think this page may help with your question: link

excerpt:

The people you reshare the post with will see the name of the original poster and the content, but not any comments or +1's on the original post.
