Google Play Music All Access

Only thing that matters to me: How is the selection compared to Spotify?

Also Spotify android app is an atrocity

Can't tell yet.

Spotify's desktop app has been going downhill fast. Font has changed, can't see album view, it takes 5 minutes to load, they got rid of my friends/followers, they keep asking me to follow artists, the social feed is annoying as hell, they removed filtering etc etc. I've been a long-time subscriber, but now that I'm forced to upgrade to their latest version (I used to use 0.8.5) I'm done. I can't handle the 0.9.0 updates, they are complete trash.

Android app is rubbish and iOS app isn't that much better either.

I honestly didn't think about it. Would that work with iTunes files? Please tell me I have been stupid this whole time.

I'm not sure, I get my music from amazon. If you go to play.google.com and click upload music you can download a small program that you point at your music folder it will work it out

I've been using Rhapsody (which no one else seems to use lol) but for potentially $8 vs. $10 a month, having Google's unlimited selection of music as well as your own downloaded library in one spot, and hopefully a faster turnaround for albums since their initial release (example: Taylor Swift's Red album just came out to the services this week even though it was released in October and The Black Keys' 2011 El Camino album is still missing from both) should hopefully sway me to Google.

Just hurry up with that mobile app and offline downloads!
I use Rhapsody, but then again I'm a RealNetworks employee and so I have a free sub from when we used to own them. :) Not a fan of their Android app though, particularly the lack of controls on the notification screen. Currently trying out Google's music service since I was already using them for storing my own tracks and I like to contain things in one app if possible.

Yeah, I am getting that now, the website claims it will work with iTunes music, and if it does, I am going to hug you. Cause seriously. I was stupid.

This is pretty sweet. I don't really like Spotify all that much but it was the only one that integrated your own music with the Spotify music and had a good selection. I liked it better than Rdio and MOG, but I think having the cloud storage of my music I already have on Google Music really puts this service over the top for me. Happy so far at least (10 minutes of use so far).

Yup. The program actually has an option where you just select "iTunes" and it will do all the rest. Super easy.

It's uploading now, 900 songs. I can then have it select other folders too right? (I have around 2k more on a secondary hard drive that were ripped and erm, acquired way before iTunes was a thing)

At least I am not the only one who missed the memo for this. This is the best day ever.

LOL! I've been using that service since it came out. Every once in a while, I'll explain it to a friend/acquaintance and watch as their eyes slowly open...and even then they are convinced that there is a catch.

Just signed up.

So I added a few songs to my library. So if I ever quit the service, they'll just disappear from my library then?

If so, thats cool. Loving this so far.

I have no excuses, I should have known about this. I am internet savvy as hell and have been online since the freakin' dark ages. Does this mean I am getting old? Oh god.

Hrm... When listening to the radio, it doesn't autoskip the track if you thumbs down it. [edit] Just worked when I thumbs-downed something.

Also you can swipe down from the album cover to reveal album stations. You can also swipe up from the mini player while looking at the album stations to bring up the single-track view.

I do like most of this new redesign. Wish they added thumbs up/down in the notification bar, though.

So I installed the app, and it asks me to trial All Access.

But I get this:

I just want know how good the radio feature is, I already uploaded my whole collection a long time ago and for the most part all previous music services never have more than half the stuff I search for. So I end up just using it to find new music with the radio feature.

Insofar as "offline" music is concerned, I have my thumbs-up music pinned so they auto download. Every track that was not in my library that I've thumbs-upped has been downloaded to my device. Don't know any other way offline would work.

Hmm, a song a thumbs-downed earlier popped up on my radio again. lol

Debating if I want to try this out or not. I already use spotify and itunes on my phone, so this would be strictly for my pc...

Hmm...

Awesome news. I've been eyeing Spotify for awhile, but if this is cheaper than I'll definitely go with this. The new Google Play Music app is gorgeous, too. Way better than how it looked before.

Question, though. I've never used a streaming music service like this. If I download a song and then let my subscription lapse, what happens to that song? Will it still show up in my library but not be playable? Does it autodelete? I have no idea what happens.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've already added quite a few to my library and created some custom playlists. I'm guessing thats what will happen, since if you click the little tab next to the song listed, it will ask if you want to buy the song.

You get a 30 day free trial, so why not try it out?

Basically what I was thinking, I'll just upload more music from home. Thing I hate is that I can't use google music on my iphone.

Why not use Spotify for your pc too?

I do actually, was debating on the merits of whether or not to keep spotify if this service replaces it. But I have a lot of playlists on spotify that I'm happy with.

You won't be able to play the song any more, at least on Spotify or Rdio. I'm thinking Google's will be the same. On Rdio, I had to redownload my songs after I let my subscription lapse for a few weeks.

LOL. I think I have mentioned it a few times in other theads when people keep complaining how they can't move their iTunes library to Android. They are just all mp3 files sitting on your computer anyway.

Google needs to advertise Google Music a bit better.

Oh I have a google music account. I mean the All Access thing.

It 'works' for me, it's asking for my credit card info - but the credit card info I currently have is no good - when I try to add a new card the country option can't include canada (which is the problem).

But you can also pay via google play card - but I have no idea how to get one of those.

So if any peeps can give me some advice on how to get payments working from canada, I'd owe ya. Either some online gift-credit card, or a place I can pick up play cards in toronto.

I'm looking into the former now.

Yep, when I got my S3, that was my main concern. I had all this music sitting there in my iTunes account that I would not be able to use.

Downloaded the Google Music Player on my PC, went to settings and found the "iTunes" folder. Bam, 13 gigs of my iTunes goodness transferred to Google's Player.

Signed up, my whole library from before is still there. And now you can add other music to your library.

So far everything I've wanted to find has been available. I'm so excited about this. I refused to touch Spotify because they had so little that I liked.

I got on at the introduction price of $8 a month after the initial month is up.

Also, the mobile app looks fantastic on Note 2.

Try in browser.
I get a Server error. The thing is, it should work here (France). I'll try again tomorrow.

Anybody get the new mobile site yet on iPhone? Haven't gotten it to work yet and obviously Melodies doesn't support all the new features or look as nice.
