Lots of misinformation here.

These prices are no different than what you would see in your favorite consoles digital store.

The difference is I can stream 4k/60fps on a compatible device. Your consoles won't ever hit this performance target even after developers get used to the hardware.

If you have an above average gaming PC, you will be paying for a pro membership and will enjoy streaming Stadia games at 4k/60fps, instead of paying $400 to upgrade your graphics card and $200 to upgrade your processor.

Yay!

This Stadia thing was pretty funny on it's own. But it's soooooo much better with a real-life Google Stadia fanboy.

Please, keep posting.

Once things kick into gear I'll be showing off Stadia games on proper hardware compared to their console counterparts so that people understand why proper hardware is important for Stadia to work at highest graphical settings.

I really can't explain it better than I have in writing since many people here are confused about how the service actually works, but once you see it for yourself I think it will click with you. Not all of you, but some of you.

Google is looking to make a quick buck, then they will shut down these datacenters when their profit far underachieve their proposed projections and the people that were dumb enough to buy into this are going to be out alot of money, since they don't own any of it.

Wow, they are completely oblivious. We aren't even paying for a license...why the fuck would any pay near full price for a game they can't even at least digitally own.

Who's calling the shots there? They need to be fired...they don't have a fucking clue.

Here's the fix
- Monthly subscription $15- 20 a month for Pro. All Games included. Free for Basic subscribers, gotta pay increased cost per game. Price is based on current retail price, minus 15-20% discount because the players don't own shit! This will ensure everybody goes pro.
- Stadia Controller - $55, just to slightly undercut Microsoft and Playstation.
- ChromeCast Ultra, included in Pro, not in Basic

How is this so hard?

Yep proper hardware IS important. It's called Xbox and Playstation.

Did you even look at the the graphics comparison between 1X and Stadia in the Eurogamer article. It's night & day and I usually can't tell much difference in the usual graphics comparisons, but Stadia looked like a blurry mess much worse than anything I ever saw on my old 360. I'm going to go out on a limb here and theorize that PS 5 & Scarlett will even have much better graphics than the X.

And that input lag in the WaPo video :pie_roffles::pie_roffles::pie_roffles::pie_roffles:

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

please ignore the mentally disabled person on the right. he can't help it brap brap

Gylt looked like fun (maybe not $30 fun) and some of the games definitely seemed to work better than others.

They must think the gaming community are chumps.
They are.

I'm reading the italian press and seeing video reviews, NO ONE of those incompetents is mentioning the consumer's rights issues and how you pay a sub AND full price for games and you can (and will) lose it all the moment Google decides to pull the plug.

Their impressions were generally positive.

Basically, it works, it is just unfinished.

I think after the hive mentality hate dies down, the tech is pretty impressive and if the service and game fidelity improves, it could appeal to a lot of people.

If google released with a gamepass model, it had potential. Treating it like a console with regards to pricing when it obviously has its limitations and drawbacks, is suicide, especially when you have Xcloud on the horizon which is as good, and gives you much better games, options, and what feels like free games.

Thanks for the effort, but could one really build a $800 PC that would play 4k at 60fps?
If you get back tp 1080, math looks quite different:

StadiaCostsPC
149.99Base$800.00
$0.00Monthly$0.00
149.99Year 1$800.00
149.99Year 2$800.00

149.99Year 4$800.00
149.99Year 5$800.00
149.99Year 6$800.00

you could mix 'free games from epic store', of course, but it is compensated by hefty $650 difference.
Besides, power consumption costs in some countries can be significant, dozens of bucks annually.

The main problem with Stadia is how easily does google axe its side projects.

And if my grandma had wheels, she would've been a bike. This is not a beta test. The service launches tomorrow. You only get to make first impressions once, and this is not exactly positive.

I agree to an extent.

They are likely providing close to the best possible experience they can currently provide but tech moves fast.

Within a year or two, compression techniques will improve, as will data transfer, wifi, bluetooth etc.

I've said this a thousand times that maybe the tech isn't there yet but Google is getting in early in order to make sure they don't miss the boat. Gaming is a huge industry and they want in on the pie. They aren't going to just sit there and let Microsoft and potentially Sony be the only players.

If you jump in now, you will essentially be an early adopting Beta tester until conditions become more conducive to streaming.

I am excited for Stadia but today's launch has left me a little underwhelmed. If Google decides to stick it out, I can see it being the preferred option for most casual gamers in the future.

While xCloud with Game Pass is obviously a much better deal monetarily than Stadia, and I trust MS a whole lot more than I trust Google we still don't know if it's going to work any better than this comedy. I truly hope if xCloud is as bad as Stadia with hideous input lag and horrible 360-looking graphics, they just kill it instead of humiliating themselves like Google is doing.

Sure, Google can stick it out. But I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond to you. Is it via Wave? Google+? Hangouts? Duo? Allo?

....I think you get the point.

Yeah, but for a certain amount of time the PC will be a prime choice as a gaming platform, while gaming by streaming will constantly be compromising garbage, from start to end.

Do people who argue that stadia can stream 4k or even 1080p not understand how video compression works?
Compressed 4k can look worse than raw 1080p and it has been confirmed by multiple reviewers that stadia compressed 4k doesn't come close to the real thing.

Sure there's a risk but the risk doesn't bother me. They aren't just going to cut the cord one day. IF they decide to shut it down, I'm sure they will give plenty of notice as they have with the other services they have shut down.

I could care less if I no longer own the game as long as I've played through it or sufficiently exhausted my time with it.

I bought Alex Kidd in Miracle world on my Master System at one point in my life. I don't have it now and don't care for not having it. I see games like going to the movies. They are an experience. I pay $22 (Australia) for 2 or 3 hours of entertainment. I don't own the movie and I don't need to. Games to me present good value because I get a lot more hours out of a game than a movie. (unless its the Order 1886!).

I might be in the minority but it is okay with me. Unlike my childhood where I had no money but loads of time, I now have money but limited time to game. If I can get through RDRII for $99 it is good enough value for me.

Remember when people laughed when digital distribution was introduced? "WTF, there's no retail store margin, this thing should be 40$, not 80, GTFO!!! Physical for live!!!" - it took what? 3 years for the digital copies to become 1/3rd of total global sales? Now it's a completely dominant distribution channel, despite actually having higher prices than retail versions do. People are lazy fucks, always have been, always will be, those 60$ are not an issue in the greater scheme, given the convenience which average Joe seeks out so desperately - not only you don't have to worry about physical copies, but about physical hardware itself, it's a no-brainer for people who just want to play next Fifa or CoD with their friends but have less than zero knowledge about the hardware, companies who make it, or the overall situation of the market. Nintendo never drops prices of their games, that are not $100MLN AAA games to begin with, and somehow it's totally acceptable and understandable, so once Google starts to roll out the games at the same time everyone does, it will also become clear/natural that that's just the way it is.

Stadia has bigger issues than the prices, the accessibility being the biggest one - why do you need specifically a Pixel phone? Why not every phone out there? Or better yet - why not just register for Stadia on any damn web browser there is, be it on a PC, Laptop, Mac, mobile phones whatever? It's like they purposely limit to how many people they can deliver the service (which makes total sense given their delivery shortages/issues). Secondly - Chromecast - isn't like half - 2/3rd TV on the planet based on Android? Why do I need a device, instead of downloading an app to my TV, that quite accidentally has wifi and wired connection? The TV should be the console itself, that would be as low as can get in terms of getting rid of the hardware.

The latency issues, well, I don't think we're there yet, countries must step up their optic fiber infrastructures and 5G transmission, and Google must cover more area with Stadia servers, if you combine the two you can minimize the latencies and make the service actually viable.

Long story short, I get the consent, but the execution simply isn't there, I give it 3 years to get past baby steps, and if 5-6 years from now Stadia will still be there that means it works (financially) and will stay with us forever.

Do people who argue that stadia can stream 4k or even 1080p not understand how video compression works?
Compressed 4k can look worse than raw 1080p and it has been confirmed by multiple reviewers that stadia compressed 4k doesn't come close to the real thing.

I agree and this is the most disappointing part of Stadia right now. I was expecting better image quality but as data transfer speeds, compression techniques and data caps increase, this issue *should* improve dramatically

Sure there's a risk but the risk doesn't bother me. They aren't just going to cut the cord one day. IF they decide to shut it down, I'm sure they will give plenty of notice.

I don;t own the movie and I don't need to. Games to me present good value because I get a lot more hours out of a game than a move. (unless its the Order 1886!).

So let me get this straight... You're an Aussie excited for Stadia?

What alternate reality do you live in? Because all the Australians I know have dismissed pretty much any streaming service due to lack of bandwidth/hellish data caps.

At this point I think Google is creating the stadia for 2 reasons.

1 they need something to fail so they can work some tax magic with it. Using money in hand to invest in something so they dont have to pay tax on that money or work it so they dont pay as much on a failed product. Or something that effect.

2 and use reason number 1 as a way to also take any patents or r&d gained from the project for something else. Or simply use this as a beta test for another project they are working on.

Killing 2 birds with one stone as it were.

haha true but I have unmetered data and average peak speeds of 75Mb/sec so I'm good.

Again, things will only improve over time too.

I have no issues streaming 2 4k Netflix streams.

The $800 includes the fee.

Stadia will have access to dozens of games, and all of them will be running at high settings you can't get on consoles. You'd have to spend a lot more to get the same performance on a gaming rig.

Right now most Stadia news being parroted is coming from gaming press with bad reputation. Don't you find it funny that coverage some months ago was positive, but now the same press is trashing it? Google will make things more clear before launch, give them some time.

Xboxx plus gamepass shits hungarian salami sized poo strings on your stadia with hundreds of free games at much better quality for half the price.
800 bucks now it includes the fee too next it will include the controler what else?
