You forgot The Last of Us: Part 1. Those are all first party exclusive games made by top SONY studios (And they still all look considerably worse at 60fps than they do at 30) Not just any mediocre multiplat studio can do what Sony does. Look at Dead Space remake. Looks like a PS4 game and its next gen only. Other studios quite frankly... They lack the talent, which is what I also said here. Im way ahead of the game
Also, multiplat devs are held back due to the weak Series S.

The happy medium 40fps looks near discernable in the others. I would still take the 60 mode over 30 if it didn't have the 40 mode.

This whole debacle is depressing this morning. I don’t understand why they can’t put in various modes as other devs are doing it. It’s depressing that the current gen consoles aren’t as strong as people thought, and they are already two years old going into three. Depressing that series s is hamstringing both consoles. Both Sony and Xbox, have very few current gen games to showcase anyways. This whole gen seems like a shit show. Ill probably focus on pc here on out, but hate windows and all the fucking bugs pc gamers have to deal with.

At this point, my goal is to buy a prebuilt 4090 gaming pc next year. I think im done with consoles, except for nintendo systems. The new consoles are great, but i dont want to have to choose between a high resolution or good frame rate anymore, and i certainly dont want to put up with 30 fps anymore if there isnt an option. My budget is about 5 grand so hopefully i can find a good prebuilt next year with that card

You know what this type of dev would do with a mid-gen refresh? Not 60fps but more particles and a 30fps only.

I already mentioned above with the co-op mode on consoles, it probably would not work out so well due to lower-level extraction layers.

Multiplat devs don't have this luxury, they have to produce for the Series Shit.
That console needs to be abolished. It will suck the life out of this gen until its over. MS doesnt give a damn about quality or pushing the medium forward. That console should have never been made. Its too weak. No vision of the future. Devs have been complaining about it for years and get mocked when they do.

Just wait until we get Rocksteady's Suicide Squad in 2023 with 4-player co-op, way better graphics and 60 fps. No idea what they're thinking over at WB Montreal.

Who cares! It is a scientific fact that the human eye cannot tell the difference. In fact i'd argue that 60 fps looks worse. 60 fps is too smooth, it's like petting a shark, the scales (frames) are too smooth so it cuts your hand (eyes), while 30 fps is nice and stable and gives you a better immersion because the frames travel a longer distance so the world looks bigger

I agree. However, its ridiculous to think these limited budget consoles have unlimited power. It's always been a give or take scenario (performance versus visuals) regardless on the generation of console.

I know it's personal tastes, but all those games (except Returnal that I've not played yet) look more or less PS4 at 60fps to me. In fact, the only one of those games that looks barely next gen is Ratchet in quality mode.
Maybe it's because I played on PC during the PS4 generation, but all those games in 60fps mode look worse than a lot of Ps4 era games I played on PC. I expect a lot more from this generation, and in the actual consoles that can only be achieved at 30fps.

I give it a couple of months post-release, they'll add a 60 FPS mode like Watch Dogs: Legion.
I don't think this games engine/pipeline is based solely on RT like Metro Exodus EE, and on PC you will have equivalent options to turn RT off.
So, to get 60 FPS on consoles, take out RT, make the resolution scale dynamically and reduce settings.
No one is asking the developers to compromise on their vision, folks will be happy with an option to toggle between the two modes at will.
