Gotham Knights - First 16 minutes of gameplay premiere goes live in 30 minutes [IGN FIRST]

This game could run on PS4 Perfectly.

The fact of being "Exclusive Next Gen" Detracts from credibility

Oh, it definitely could. Probably a matter of cost and WB Montreal wanting to focus on newer consoles.

I just hope it will lead to a great optimisation. So far I don't think any gameplay has been in 60 FPS.

Was really excited for this at some point but it continues to look really bland with every showing.
Terrible writing, meh visuals with some rough animations, waypoints in a linear interior environment, meh combat, etc.

I guess it could still be fun if I can convince someone to play this in coop once it's $20.

The context is important though.
Yeah it's not really an ugly game, but as a $70 next gen only title releasing 7 years after Arkham Knight it sure looks underwhelming

For reference here is Akrham Knight 8 years ago (pre release footage) running on much weaker hardware:

Come on, it's blurry as hell, lighting and textures are way ahead.

Just give a remaster of Arkham Knight, or a free update on ps5 please.
I asked rocksteady's Twitter if they were ever going to update the framerate or resolution (it's still 900p on Xbox smh) a year or two ago

Didn't even get a "we don't have plans at the moment", they just said "no" lmao, I wouldn't get your hopes up

I think the lighting might be better!?
But generally I think you might be right...

yea i think its better. Gamers tend to exaggerate a lot lol

I don't see how on better hardware it would be worse and we are looking at thru streaming vs a direct feed, playing it live ourselves etc. So I believe it will be on pair to better.

lovetalkgames lovetalkgames lol pretty much. I don't hate the series, but I feel some of the comments being made could apply to those other games. I don't see THAT MUCH that is conceptually different then what those other games did though. Go to place, do some light AC style jumps, investigate, character says a bunch of narrative, a bunch of comic trope soliloquy shit, fight bad guys, fight boss, move narrative forward with new gadget....repeat lol

So its hard for me to say good or bad as I don't care for the concept and for all I know folks that like this comic shit have no issue with most of those ideas outside of the minority rabid comic book guys in gaming that will cry over capes, buttons on uniforms and weird shit like that lol I think it makes it hard to take some of that seriously when someone starts foaming over that shit. Saying one is a fan of such things for me starts to make me dismiss what they might be saying rather quickly when it sounds like they might always have this anger about any fucking comic adaption or something. So....I don't really know if we have a hit here as Gafz have been wrong before folks or if its a legit flop and no one will fuck with it.

I'd need to see a lot more regardless before giving any final view on it.

Yep. I see almost zero "current gen only" features. Even the lighting looks baked.
I just think they didn't want to put any money into making sure the PS4/Xbox One versions worked the same.

It's also an online game. So they would need to deploy and maintain online servers for consoles on their way out. If the game is a success and there's a long tail of supporting content (although this isn't a GAAS like Avengers,) that's an annoying amount of deploys and possibly too much baggage if they need to push the DLC in a particular way.

We're seeing more and more games shedding the PS4/Xbox One platform releases (and yet some of these still have a Switch version planned,) and it's less about the next-gen'uine qualities of the game than it is just audience targeting. There's an assumption that those 200mil old consoles out there are too tantalizing to pass up, but the new gen versions are said to be selling at significant percentages over the old boxes. People just start to forget they need new games for their old consoles after a while, which is one of the reasons why they make new consoles every few years.

To be fair, WB doesn't seem to be overhyping "Exclusive Next Gen"; it's just a fact of the product. The most I've seen WB talk about it was in the cancelation and its FAQ on past-gen, simply saying, "To provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game...will not be available for PlayStation®4 or Xbox One consoles." Which isn't saying a lot, and isn't even necessarily untrue (even if the difference would have been minimal, being load delays and maybe some minor technical/DLC impact.)

Yeah it does not look better than Arkham Knight, not even close. There's zero of that visual flair you'd expect from an Arkham game. We should be getting equivalent imagery and physics to the pc version of Arkham Knight 7 years and a generation later:

Hell, remember that Arkham City on PC had more advanced physics than nearly every game today does, and that was 11 years ago:

It's also important to remember that all this ran on hardware that is basically prehistoric compared to the current generation of consoles.

To be fair, as bad as the dialogue looks and the animations slow and janky, I'll probably still get it just because it will no doubt be at least half decent. But yeah, seven years on from AK, this is not exactly what I expected.

Rocksteady are making the upcoming Suicide Squad, not this game. :)

Clicked though the video, every time Batgirl was talking to herself... aren't we over that kind of stuff....
I'm honestly fine with self-dialogue. The issue is that it's just so dumb.

"Hm, this way's open. Look out, 'cause here I come!"
(Villain leaves clue behind) "Hmph. Looks like they got sloppy. Bet they're not gonna see me coming!"

Just shit like this is so annoying. If their dialogue was actually thought out properly and not something a 12-year old wrote for them, it would be worthwhile.

Common now.
If you listen closely to when the four are talking together in the introduction. You can actually hear their eyes reading the script as they mouth it.
I've heard a lot of bad dubs from anime in my teens and this hit my ear like a knife.
The pacing and flow of dialog is off too.
Badly edited.

Initially thought this was a GaaS game? Something similar to the Avengers game, its apparently not. Looks mediocre to be completely honest, but quite curious to see what the full game offers.

I'm getting it day 1. I don't play too many brawlers of this type outside of the Batman games, which are years apart. Doesn't have to be a generational leap for me, just want more fun in the Arkham-verse.

Yeah, same. I know what I'm getting into, despite all of the valid criticism. If the story and boss fights are interesting and engaging enough, then that's even better.

Oh I know. I'm just saying that I normally like the self-dialogue in other games.

This will be something me and some friends play once it's super cheap or one of the PS+ games (be it essential or extra).

Hope that one hits their quality bar.. some good but no great multiplat comic book/superhero games right now.. and GK looks disappointing - clearly a lot of effort, good licensed material, but graphics are bad by last gen, art style is mediocre, animations and camera look awful.. could be playable if they nail the combat, but..

Remember when this industry was an exciting place for talented devs and investors were excited about pushing what was possible?

This is what happens to humanity when the bottom line is 1 to 10 in the priority list, trash.

oh look, a marker point, go here, jump up here, walk here, go there, press this, walk here, go there, jump here.

Go fuck a cactus.

Flicked through the video. Looks like dog shit. It really took them this long to come up with this? Lol.

Hard pass
