Gotham Knights - First 16 minutes of gameplay premiere goes live in 30 minutes [IGN FIRST]

Catwoman in City / AK had such an awesome combat kit, and thats what you get by default for batgirl ? ouchies. it honestly looks bad

Doesn't look that bad, but it is not doing anything special in this tutorial section.

Those waypoint icons, though. Do they think it is needed to show every 10 feet where we need to go? Also big laugh at the game solving a puzzle for you.

'When playing this game you can leave your brain at home'

Someone must be hyped for this seeing that 300€ collector's edition sold out. 👀

The camera looks totally weird here when out of combat. Butt cam instead of bat cam (yet at the same time the juxtaposition with trying to not have her very feminine in her movements, which goes alongside the next animation point I want to make). Something's off with it. Her battle animations are also weird, I guess they'te trying to give characters their own personality but hers seems to be completely ineffective flailing at odds with the previous arkham games' brutal and hard hitting animations that made combat fun and somewhat down to earth (but I guess it fit batman's buff build).

Should have been a sequel to Arkham origins where Batman was capturing the super villains and putting them in Arkham for the first time

Dialogue is terrible. Feels like none of the actors / actresses were in the same room, and delivered their lines in isolation without context.

First thought was "My god have they wussified Damian Wayne!" Then the disappoint sank in. Second thought was, "This don't look terrible." Final thought, "Gonna need to see that openworld Gotham."

In all seriousness it looks fine. Exactly what you would expect from this. If the story and character progression are solid then I'm there. One thing I do hate about modern Batman stories - well any comic book based property - is how they de-establish characters. Batman is "dead" here, but The Man-Bat never existed? Seriously? Annoying. . .in a complete irrelevant to anything important kind of way.

This looks no better (and in some cases worse) than Arkham Knight. A game that came out seven years ago.

How is this possible?

Also, the dialogue is cringeworthy shit that sounds like it was written by a thirteen year old.
Arkham night was ahead of its time and this started off life as a ps4/x1 game, but they ditched last gen support for this game recently.

Is this a GaaS game? It still feels like they're hiding some of the onscreen icons/stuff..you could kinda tell it real bad in the red hood video. I was super hyped about this and I guess im one of the few people who was happy about a game in the 'Batman' universe where we weren't playing it through his eyes but....

Not like this lol...Framerate seems choppy as fuck and off in the first like minute or two also and it almost feels like its multiple videos spliced together..

I think this game is a perfect analogy for where gaming is going. From the devs of Arkham Origins, a game part of the amazing Arkham single player games, to this game, a co-op multiplayer GAAS and mtx riddled game (probably) with a lighthearted tone and hero characters (literally hero characters here lol).
And then you also look at Rocksteady themsaelves going from the Arkham games to Suicide Squad. Yikes.

Will check either when it gets a heavy discount or comes to GP. Looks thoroughly mediocre.

Same. Should have gone with a Superman game if they weren't going to do Batman. I'll wait for a good price for this one.

Who am I kidding, I wasn't buying it day one regardless, LOL

So. . .they voice acted. And I doubt the voice director, when asked to set the scene, said "Well it's like you know. Action!"

Sometimes voice acting is all done on separate schedules, sure, but it's not always that way (for example, at least key scenes of Joker / Batman were apparently recorded in sync)--and there's a tremendous range of different levels of quality you can end up with.

It's a lot like how some film scenes will be shot seamlessly on a green screen so that you barely notice, but in other cases (ahem, George Lucas) it's absolutely apparent that the actors don't know what they're supposed to be looking at or howt they are to fit into the imaginary scene.

In the OP's video at the beginning, the heroes all standing around appear to have no idea what the tone of the previous line was to be. They just sort of speak at each other like they came from different scenes entirely. It feels like a game produced on an assembly line rather than something organic.

um ok...8 minutes of corridor walking and hacking...same shit as last gen batman games...not even gonna bother with this one.

I shall wait for it to hit gamepass. Hope there will be quite a few improvements through patches and what-have-you before it makes it to GP. 👍🏻

The only reason I was interested in this game is because you can play as Batgirl throughout the entire game.

Hate the voice acting. And I really hope we can change out the costumes. Batgirl looks ridiculous, but she matches the voice so I guess that's what they were going for?

At the looks of it, this is going to go on sale quickly. If reviews are half-way decent I'll give it a shot then.

To be fair, few games, even today, look better than Arkham Knight

It could be released today and still get praised for its graphics. It's that amazing.

Heck, even Suicide Squad doesnt look as good as AK. That was lighting in a bottle, great combo of tech+art (plus rain making everything more shiny and crisp)

But this is a next gen only game with what, 7-8 years of dev time?

So yeah, we should get more than this

As a Batman fanatic, I couldn't really be more excited. It may be an unpopular opinion, but it is what it is. I think it looks good.

Absolutely. There are six years between Arkham Asylum on Ps3 and Arkham Knight on Ps4 and the difference between the two is far greater than this.

I'll buy it for cheap off cdkeys or gamivo. I dont like the direction they've opted to go for this game but its batman universe so I would be lying if I said I wasn't going to buy it. Right now its $45 on Cdkeys. Thats pretty reasonable.

I don't think this looks too bad from this showing tbh.

I'll probably wait to see more before preordering, unless there is nothing else for me to preorder/buy by then.

What month is this out again?

I don't understand all the complaints, honestly. It looks like a standard superhero game, just like batman and spiderman games looked. Graphics looks adequate and far better then arkham knight. Will wait for reviews though.

Looks a lot better than it did initially, but unfortunately it still looks bland and boring. But, to be fair, this is a tutorial level. Hard to really grasp the full depth of the game this early into it.

I'll wait for reviews and see what they say. But after second impressions, I'm not convinced. Especially after The Avengers debacle.

Releases October 25th

Honestly, I read your comments before checking the video out, was expecting ugly graphics. People are weird, graphics are pretty decent. Looking forward to play it.

This game could run on PS4 Perfectly.

The fact of being "Exclusive Next Gen" Detracts from credibility
Yep. I see almost zero "current gen only" features. Even the lighting looks baked.
I just think they didn't want to put any money into making sure the PS4/Xbox One versions worked the same.
Compare this to Horizon Forbidden West on PS4.

Was really excited for this at some point but it continues to look really bland with every showing.
Terrible writing, meh visuals with some rough animations, waypoints in a linear interior environment, meh combat, etc.

I guess it could still be fun if I can convince someone to play this in coop once it's $20.

The context is important though.
Yeah it's not really an ugly game, but as a $70 next gen only title releasing 7 years after Arkham Knight it sure looks underwhelming

For reference here is Akrham Knight 8 years ago (pre release footage) running on much weaker hardware:

The counter system is gone, reduced to atoms, What was in their heads when they removed it?
While I'm still very interested in this game unlike most people here, I agree this is quite disappointing. Hopefully the dodge system will be good enough with enough variety and nice combos to make up for it.
Or maybe it's still available for some specific characters? Or an upgrade later? (seems unlikely though since Y is already used for ranged attack), I don't know.
