GPU Upgraders, What are you planning on buying?

What is it going to be?

Priced better than I expected. I may do a RTX 5070 or the RX 9070xt. AMD is the least hype graphics card producer but I keep my options open and I use Linux primarily so AMD is preferable. It wouldn't be immediate. I expect early on scalper prices to be normal

I'm going 3080 to 5080. My 3080 runs everything fine still.

Unless I get a surprise windfall, I'll stick with my 3080 for now.

If I one the lotto, a maxed out PC would be one of the first things I'd buy. I could do it now, but it's hard to justify.

Either 5070 or 5070ti.

Not unless AMD stuns the world with an insane value GPU price to performance ratio. Even then I'm ready to go back to Team Green.

4080 -> 5070ti
I havent even checked the raw performance difference, would that even make sense?

Although i dont think i even care about rasterization anymore, theyve treated it like a legacy support yes/no checkbox and i am with nvidia on this one, just give me more fake frames. If i didnt need the CPU for various productivity stuff like handbrake id be selling the 7950x to buy a 9600x along with it.
More of a sidegrade you won't gain that much outside a little better RT and DLSS 4 (frame gen x4). And if you like to play around with Ai.

If you have the cash it might be worth it for you. I'd maybe think about stepping up to the 5080 coming from a 4080, personally.

Prior to last night's announcements, I expected not to buy any of the new GPUs. I'm on a 3080 and want at least a 50% improvement in frame rates before I upgrade. I also don't want to pay more than $1000. I also feel like 16GB on thr 5080 could impact performance in a few year's time.

I need to see reviews and benchmarks. But from what they showed last night, it looks like all of my concerns have been addressed. If they all turn out to be legit, I'll look at what's available in Q3. I have some games to finish that already run great on my current card. Those will keep me busy for a few months.

Planned on getting a 5080 and the price is right. Getting a new PSU too.
Hope they don't bundle the game with some dogshit Ubisoft game.

im on 1440p so i dont need a 5080 and 5090 is fucking overkill. 5070ti looks like a fine option. 5070 with that vram is laughable

Pretty sure I'm getting the 5090, but awaiting reviews. It's a crazy expense but would also be glorious. Planning on keeping my 13700k for a while, can't do a whole new rig at the same time

5090 if i can find it at MSRP

but i also want benchmarks
far cry 6, the only game demoed without DLSS, was only ~25% faster than 4090.
and that's with RT enabled, which the 5090 is probably quite a bit faster at.
so seems like 5090 raster performance is barely better.

and if RT performance is only 2x or less, that sucks.

oh well, will still buy.

Would love to upgrade my 3060 to a 5080... but I only currently have a 400W power supply (so that'll need changed out) and I think my case might be too small physically (the 3060 barely fits) so that's got to go. My CPU is 5 years old, and my motherboard only supports DDR4 RAM.

Might be time to just replace it completely.

Have a 4090 so the only logical step would be a 5090.

Not sure if I'll get it on day one this time. Depends how things play out. Looking forward to seeing benchmarks.

Well, based on my GPU upgrade history (went from a GTX 660 to an RTX 4080), my next upgrade shouldn't be any sooner than 2033...

To be completely honest, I'm still amazed at the power and quality I get from my 4080. With those sweet new DLSS improvements coming, I really don't see the point in upgrading to Blackwell.

P.S. - Still just 16GB for a high-end GPU in 2025? Really, Jensen? It should've been at least 20GB. But hey, there has to be a sales pitch for the 5080 Ti, right?

Unfortunately I'm buying an entire rig plus new monitor so it'll possibly be the 5070 but I'm aiming for the ti if I can tolerate the dog food diet for an extra month or two. 5080/90 cards have always been way out of my price range and pointless for gaming at 1440p.

5090 gang

I'm just looking for a new CPU and motherboard to go with it. I'm on a PCIe 4 motherboard which was fine for the 4090 not fully saturating it, but unless benchmarks come out saying otherwise, will need to upgrade that.

If I had the money I'd go from 3080 to a 5080 pre built.

But I don't so I just have to pray dlss4 makes enough of a difference in my 3080 so I can make due until the broke boy days are behind me.

I'm considering a new build

AMD 9950x3D
Asus strix 5090 or MSI Suprim X
Not sure about ram yet as this will be my first DDR5 build.

I'll put it all in my lian li case

I'll probably upgrade from the 3060ti to the 5070. that should be a sizeable upgrade even without all the new DLSS stuff taken into account.

Probably wait on AMD. The 5070 looks good for the price. But AMD FSR and AFMF works in every game, not just a handful of titles like DLSS. Also the 5070 has 12gb of vram, while the 5070ti/5080 have 16gb. AMD is rumored to have at least 16gb in their new cards.

Only just found out the 5090 is a 2 slot cooler. I'll be waiting for a good review before I commit to first round of cards. Might have to wait for a version with a better cooler.

2 slots cooler, but draws more power. How does that even out?

Isnt that only just the Nvidias own model? Asus cards are 3.8 slots

Many of the AI improvements will make my RTX 4080 run better, so nothing.

If I was upgrading from an older card though, I'd go with the 5070ti for the 16gb of vram.

With my 4090 and these booty-cheek-tier optimizations from developers, I'll see y'all when Nvidia drops the 6000 series cards. Till then peace out!

Word. I mean there are like 3 games that "challenge" my 4090 and by that I mean it could potentially drop below 100 fps. (Cyberpunk, Aw2 and Indy).

Kind of debating between 5079Ti and 5080. Gut feeling says 5080 is a bit of a rip off as it's likely to be 10-15% above 5070Ti with same VRAM amount for $250 more.

The smart thing to do would be to wait for 5080 Super with likely 24GB VRAM, but I kind of want more performance vs what my 3080Ti can do. Preferably it would be enough to run 4K/120.

I want a 9070 XT Hellhound. Got a Dell G2724D 1440p monitor on BF, and was looking for a 7800 XT Hellhound to go along with it, but there were no deals on it so I just waited for this one instead.

But if the price is terrible I'll just stick with my 6650 XT and wait for UDNA.

I have a 5900x paired with a 4090 however my motherboard (X-570F) I can only upgrade to a 5950X I cannot use any of the newer processors so unless I upgrade to new motherboard, I don't really think I'm going to benefit putting a 5090 with a 5900X?

I'm prepared to be educated, though not insulted if anyone wants to put me straight on the above?

Why do you need to upgrade is more the question?

Thanks - yeah that's kind of what I meant - would I benefit?

I've always been FOMO unfortunately.
I get it. I have a 7900xt and am eyeing the 5080 but realistically have zero need for it. Probably going to sit tight until benches come out.

If I were you, i'd be looking at a 9800x3d. Are you getting 100% GPU usage?

Gotta see Benchmarks first.
I´m not a framegen fan and the raw specs barely seem to have advanced much. Pretty much only the TOPs metric has drastically improved across the board which is kinda useless if you`re not fancying the new multi-frame generation ( so far)

And for that, I need a new motherboard?
