NeoGAF - as things stand right now, are you planning to buy a PS6? Why/why not?

Do you plan on getting a PS6?

Nope since I'll rather the money be going towards my next PC.

Only time I would consider buying it is if the PS6 had at least two well made Final Fantasy games, two well made Ratchet and Clank games, two well made Resistance games, two well made Infamous games, two well made Spiderman games. And they must all either be exclusive or at least timed exclusives. And also below 800 and includes a built in disk drive already and backwards compatible.

I just picked up a PS5 Pro. if anything PS6 I might get a PS6 Pro if one gets released (if it still supports physical discs and is ps4/ps5 backwards compatible).

I never got a PS4 either, but the PS4 Pro...

If the PS5 wasn't as dogshit, the answer would easily be yes, and on day one. Current gen has completely killed my expectations from Sony, and now that Xbox is pretty much over, Sony having no competition will only lead to even lazier releases. So as is, there's zero chances of me getting the PS6.

Fuck around and find out, i guess.
I agree with this one fully.

How many awesome games have there been on PS5 so far this gen that aren't on PS4 as well? It couldn't be that many, and imo certainly hasn't been worth it, so no way in hell am I buying a PS6 on good faith alone. I think a Switch 2 purchase will be my last new system and from that point on I'll be a retro gamer.

There has been a lot of discussion on the PS5 generation on NeoGAF, and apparently a lot of GAF is seriously convinced that this is the worst generation of PlayStation ever.

I personally do not think so, and coming to PlayStation for the console experience as I do, I think the current experience is actually very good, and shall continue to ensure Sony sells ~100 million machines every generation as long as they keep that maintained and going.

But for you enthusiasts on this community, I have a question. As things stand right now, would you get a PS6?
I have 240 steam games. Nope. PC or bust.

The reason there are fewer games and more are cross platform is because games are taking longer and longer to make - and that applies across every platform.

Not planning on continuing to invest in Playstation. The ecosystem has become even less friendly over the course of this generation and no signs of slowing down. Returnal and Demon's Souls were cool, but nothing else grabbed my attention. I have a decent PC now and the Steam library, so that's pretty hard to compete with. I'm not a big online guy, but I will never accept having to pay for online features and they've only doubled down on that scheme. The plug and play nature of a console has an appeal, but they're gonna need to come up with something a little more interesting than force feedback triggers on overpriced battery deficient controllers that are prone to becoming useless due to stick drift.

Probably not. As it stands, PS5 is easily my least played console I've ever owned. Only reason I haven't sold it is because my kids use it for Astro Bot and Hogwarts Legacy.

I just see no reason to own one since I have a good PC, and I'm not really into most of Sony's AAA first party stuff anyway.

PS6 is gonna have to be seriously impressive and Sony has to pull a couple rabbits outta the hat. Every gamer I know went on to PlayStation this gen as the PS4 gen impressed them (many were Xbox people). Yet ~half of them have already moved to PC and the other half have zero inclination to upgrade to a PS6 at any point: either just giving up on gaming, letting PS5 run its course til it's no longer supported or also moving over to PC. No one I know is happy with the this gen. The trust and goodwill earned in the latter half of PS3 and the bulk of the PS4 gen is pretty much gone.

Everyone sees Sony's live service revenue split and gets all hyped about them being untouchable, but tides can change and if it's not your core audience, people can be fickle. I think they're in a bit more of a precarious position than people realise and they have a whole lot of convincing to do to keep the momentum into PS6. If they come in with offensive pricing, don't do much new and don't start consistently putting out strong first party titles again, they might be in for a bit of a rude awakening. At the very least, the transition is slow, growth weak and the margins tighter.

Nope. Every game I want to play is on PC or coming to PC. Next gen will be my first gen I don't buy a console. In 10 years, Bloodborne is the only console game that didn't come to PC that I want to play. I bought my PS4 the night that game came out. One game in 10 years is not a good enough reason for me to buy a PS6. That was also a PS4 title. There's currently no PS5 title I enjoy I can't get on PC. I don't expect there will be one on PS6.

Sony is a mess. All self inflicted wounds.

The 1st party output is embarrassing. Love the hardware itself but besides death stranding I've only really gotten into horizon forbidden west.

And as much as I loved ghost, I'm not excited for the sequel. I'll definitely buy it at some point but just like the ps6 I have no anxiety about purchasing it anytime soon.

I was trying like hell to get a ps5 and ended up buying a shit bundle deal just to get it earlier

That will not happen again

Edit: Fuck me, haha. I meant the og death stranding too so I guess there's only 2 1st party games I've played this gen. Oh and returnal which was pretty good.

My ps5 became a third party machine and my ps5pro is lacking support from Sony... so me buying a ps6 will depend on them .. another mediocre gen like this wont sell me anything

Yeah. I buy every console on their release date. Have pretty much done that since the 5th gen.

if theres something decent to play that I can't play anywhere else then sure.

But the answer is probably no.
How I've made every purchase ever of hardware. Games I can't play anywhere else I'm interested in? Sold!

It's why I don't own a Xbox. It's all on my PC.

Even if say all the Xbox first party studio games were only on Xbox… I still don't think I'd have one this gen.

Switch 2 is the first hardware I've bought that didn't have a day one game I wanted to play on it. Mario kart world isn't for me. Luckily donkey kong is soon and Metroid prime 4 isn't far behind.

As for PS6 just launch with Bloodborne 2.

Call of Duty BLOPS 6 just reminded me why I have a console still- game always crashes due to a directx error. Not a system issue as no other games I have crash and this issue is all over the internet.

In order to play reliably, I need to re-activate my PS Plus subscription. Ugh…

it will depend on how they release 1st party titles to PC, if they move to a same day/date then no i'll prob slink over to PC but if they keep those fuckers waiting for a year or two then yes i'll prob buy one

Normally, way too early for me to think about. Since this topic made me think about, though, I'm not planning to buy one unless the software offers a huge incentive. I'm happy with the PS5, I'm mainly a PC gamer but I like many comfort options consoles offer. So far, except for performance, there's little to nothing I'm missing right now a PS6 could offer. Maybe they come up with something and I will think about again, but as of now, no plans unless I know more.

I sold my PS5. I hated the controller, the UI, and the lack of games makes that's stuff even worse. I'll stick to Xbox and Switch 2. Rarely use my gaming PC, but if I absolutely need to play a Sony first party game I'll wait for a port.

And one less reason to jump on board every gen.

You'd think, but the same argument can be applied to PC gamers who upgrade their GPU's and CPU's at console gen like frequencies or higher.

They aren't getting the big games any faster, and yet regularly shell out on expensive components to make the same titles run at higher frame-rates and resolutions!

The irony being that consoles set the baseline for required performance, so as soon as new console gen arrives then they need new gpu's because the VRAM requirements have jumped!

They made the same mistake as Microsoft. Putting their games on PC means I don't need their console. Time exclusivity means nothing to me, I can wait a year or whatever. The only reason to get a PS6 would be to own games physically, like it is (somewhat) right now for PS5... but seeing that they are pushing for digital only, I'm not sure they will do physical releases next gen. Microsoft is pretty much fully digital now. If this is the route they choose, then I don't see any reason whatsoever to own a PS6.
