GPU Upgraders, What are you planning on buying?

What is it going to be?

Not very interested. The PC exclusives that I am interested in aren't very heavy to run, so my current setup is enough for me.
If I were in the market for a new GPU I would probably wait to see what AMD is offering.

I however am going to invest in some extra storage for my NAS.
2x WD Red+ 12 TB maybe.

2080 to 5090 :messenger_relieved:

Pathetic and Disgusting. How could you cheat on that beautiful chad, Hermen Hulst?

5070ti, or if prices of 4080s drop dramatically (i dont think they will) then one of those, on a 2070 and my pc is starting to show its age

I hope that Multi frame DLSS isn't too sexy - since 4series can handle all the new stuff except for that, if it's sexy though....it'll pull me in like it always does lol (got a 4090 now).

I'm on Linux so I stick to amd but the 5070 would be what I picked. I don't think it's a great deal though. $550 isn't that cheap and 12gb isn't that much.

A lot of this is because I'll always cross shop older models, though. Kinda changes things if you only want to buy cards while they're current.

Which GPU shall I go for? I also have a PS5 Pro

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO + AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Fractal Design North Chalk White TG Clear

WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD 1 TB

Gigabyte GP-UD850GM 850W 80 Plus Gold

Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL36

A 5090 if budget is unlimited otherwise set a budget any of these will dumpster a PS5 Pro but you'd probably will at least want a 5070ti or 5080.

ditch the X670E. it's a waste of money. get a B650E instead.

good SSD choice!

not sure about crucial RAM but 6000 is good. CL36 sucks though. you want to be about CL30-32. also make sure whatever RAM you get is on the QVL list of your motherboard. I've had so many problems with RAM on AMD systems but my current G.skill kit works flawlessly.

850W psu will limit you to a 4090 or 5080. 1000W will be enough for even a 5090 it seems. I don't know what that gigabyte is like but you should always search for a PSU tier list and get the best quality one you can that fits within your budget (both financially and power wise). If a PSU seems a bit too expensive don't skimp on it. A shitty PSU can kill itself and take your entire PC with it.

If you want better performance than a PS5 Pro then a 4080 Super or 4090. potentially a 5070 if Nvidia is to be trusted. A 5080 is a safe bet (or 5090 if you get a 1000W psu).

as good as the 7800X3D is the higher the GPU the more likely you will be bottlenecked. If you're gonna play at 4K it's not really an issue but if you're wanting 1440p it MIGHT be an issue.
PS5 Pro can't even beat a 4070 but yea he should get something dramatically more powerful because why not.

Probably going to wait for the 5080 Ti, though trying to figure out if 3080 Ti > 4070 Ti would be a worthy upgrade. It'd be nice to get back to a dual slot rather than these 3 slot monsters...
No it's not worth it. 4070TI is only 4% faster and the 4070TI Super is only 14%, the 4080 is 33% which is great but obviously more expensive. I'd wait for reviews and see how the 5070ti performs (I expect it to be 20% to 35% faster at raster than the 4070ti super), that or a 5080 should be a good upgrade, ignoring budget.

Hopefully the 5070ti is as fast as a 4080 but I wouldn't count on it. DLSS4 is going to be a great add tho.

32GB RAM and 12GB is currently where PC is sitting. My PC has total of 80GB (64GB RAM 16GB VRAM) and I want a 5090 with 32GB VRAM which will bring me up to 96GB RAM.

I doubt the PS6 will have anywhere near 44GB RAM lol and if it does it'll still be weaker than PC.

edit: i lied. 16GB / 8GB is where most PCs are but 32GB / 12-16GB is quickly taking over.
Yea although you can't really add VRAM and system ram like that since they are separate pools which is a good thing and a bad thing.

AMD has their new Strix Halo chip which is an APU with 16 Zen 5 cores and a big ass 40CU RDNA3.5 integrated GPU. This chip will have up to 128GB of unified memory (like Apple devices and consoles) 96GB of which can be used as VRAM.

I was looking forward to these but I'm unconvinced it'll be worthwhile upgrade.
For the games I play a 4090 and 3080 TI are still good for a while.

I'll get the 5070 at the least though the Ti and 5080 are tempting. I have a 2070 and play at 1440p so I think even the regular 5070 would be fine.

If I would buy a new gpu now, it would be 9070 xt, better than 4080 super, decent upscalling solution, 16gb vram and only $479.

But I will stay with 4080 until 6000 series.

When you see how they designed this thing, it makes much more sense how they increase power and reduced the fatness. I'm assuming this is unique to the 5090, but it makes me want it even more because of how it's so SFF friendly. Still waiting on a proper review before I commit.

I wish the 3rd party people would actually hire some engineers to do the shit nvidia did here. Maybe they will eventually take their ideas and run. But, I doubt it. Just make it fatter and longer and louder is the only game they know how to play.

Hey, I've got a 2080 too, was considering going to 5080 but I'm not sure yet. Question: Are we supposed to get a new power supply too? I remember that there was some new power supply standard or something that came with the 40 series right? Am I misremembering that? I know it's probably not required, but is it suggested?

I think you can use adapter cables, but i'm not taking the chances so I just got a new psu

The reason I'm not getting an upgrade is for petty reasons that has nothing to do with the GPU but other components. I'm picky.

I just upgraded my 2070 with Lossless Scaling software so I'm good for now (amazing piece of software).

I use GeForce Now Ultimate too so no doubt Ultimate tier will be upgraded to the 5080.

I have a 4070 and I'm currently considering upgrading to a 5080, it should offer around 90% more performance in rasterization ?
