Its not the game, its how you constantly show up in this thread from time to time to ONLY take jabs at the game or us that still play it. Its getting really old.
It's not like my complains are unwarranted. And taking jabs at you guys here? That's news to me. If I had more time, I'd play the game more and visit this thread more frequently (oh god, the HORROR!), but right now I'm mostly lurking around to see if there are significant news or changes.

heh... luckily we actually have shipment numbers... if there were no those, people would claim it sold 2 million, lol.

I don't believe I said any of those things.

And compromises to the polygon counts won't change dimensions, have incorrect wheels and porpotions, etc. It'll only make them less detailed/round.
I don't see how outsourcing will lead inevitably to inaccuracies. You are the one saying that, and by extension only PD can model accurately.

Real, Forza, standard.

I don't care about Forza, I care about GT. There are plenty of modellers who can model accurately. And sorry to be pedantic, but it is 'case in point'.

Agreed.

I understand some of the frustration and discussion does lead to great/new ideas, so I encourage it. But nothing is likely going to change by bringing up the issue periodically on an internet forum.

If people want change, you can either tweet Kaz (he reponds sometimes), or collectively voice your opinion in a larger feedback repository.

Anyway, I really think outsourcing would work for PD though :p

Forza can barely be called a racing game, do people even buy Forza for its racing qualities? No qualifying, races are 3 minutes long with 2-3 laps and the progression has always been a bit of a joke. Forza just a big sandbox, "Uh painting", "Uh pretty car". GT will always be a major contender as long as it contains actual racing. So despite all its flaws, the core gameplay is still miles ahead.

/random GT defense.

They're currently hiring modelers for their Tokyo and Fukuoka studios. So, they definitely know that they need more of them. I'd prefer that they just hire a bunch of people that trust over simply outsourcing the modeling.

No I didn't say that.

You said "Can't be worse than the disconnect between Premium and Standard as it is now." when a post about the inconsistency of the F40, that while graphically superior in every way, is not accurate. I simply said that was a different type of "disconnect" and that the standard models are still accurately modeled as far as sizes, proportions, etc goes.

Just an example. Each studio has their own guidelines, PD likes theirs and rather not take the risk. Simple as that.

hello sirs. I'm seriously lttp... I just ordered GT5 from amazon for 30
and am waiting :p

quick Q: Spec-II = DLC right?
meaning I can just buy the new content

No, Spec 2.0 is simply update 2.0 that is free. It was big enough in content and features to grant it a new title.

And $30? Is GT5 still not a Greatest Hit in the US? The game is like £10 in amazon.co.uk

Awesome! Spec II is just a really big free update (1 gb) that brought a lot of new improvements, free cars and tracks for online (Spa Francorchamps, Kart Space). It also established a framework for future paid DLC. First DLC pack is already up, 2nd one is coming next week.

Edit: beaten/spanked

wha~ thanks, so there's not one, but multiple DLCs?? goodness
so maybe I should've waited for US release. lol or is that only JP?
probably would have to wait a really long time so I guess it's fine.

I'm not sure what you mean. DLCs are a different thing. Updates are free and there were several of them, 1.10 1.2 1.3 all the way up to 2.1.

The retail disc that already comes with the game updated to Spec 2.0 seems to be for Japan only at this point.

Thanks for the Abu Dhabi and Mustang, Metal. :)
I would have sent more, but Uncharted 3 removed the GT5 disc from my PS3 for the first time.

There's nothing to worry about, if you have a fast Internet connection. It will take some time and being able to buy Spec II would be easier, but you'll be able to play the same game, just as everyone else.

E: the downloadable content is separate from Spec II and allows you to buy new cars and tracks.

hmm... did I get it wrong?
I thought it was GT5, the initial release,
There were updates, separate from paid DLC.

Then jp SPII has everything leading up to that point in a new package for free?

Edit: OH okay! I see... thanks all

I'm implying that it seems to be a primary selling point, instead of the actual racing.

Well of course it should be a primary selling point. Liveries play a crucial, integral and vital part of motorsport. How many racing series do you know of that race in all in plain [insert monotone paint chip colour here]?

There's actually plenty of racing series with no or minimal liveries. There's no racing series with My Little Pony liveries and countless other anime ones.

I'm actually not against custom liveries as long as there's some option to block all or block them by user

No, it shouldn't. Primary selling point of a RACING game should be the excellent RACING element, something Forza doesn't have. It has much too short races with no qualifying and a poor racing AI. Forza is now making a name for itself by being a playbox racer, less focus on what actually matters and more focus on a lot of peripheral crap like painting, challenges and auction house. It's turning into a nice little community game but the racing experience is nowhere to be found. A typical race in Forza, you need to rub paint for 2 laps to get ahead, win and that's it.

And yes, LIVERIES play a small role in racing games ( not crucial, let's not go overboard ) but most people just pump out anime crap, abstract paintings, penises, swastikas and all sorts of alternative paintings. And only 10% of the actual playerbase seems to have any sort of artistic fiber in their body. Not saying there aren't liveries but that's not the primary use by a long shot.

i guess you are right... my 3yr old watched race on TV and said "i like red car, it is going to win".

LOL.

Liveries play no part in motorsport at all. I have to ever see anyone (except my 3yr old kid I guess) who would cheer for some driver because of their paint color and sponsor list.

You are confusing real motorsports and gaming. In gaming, sure it is cool to paint your car and have complete freedom to do so. But that has nothing to do with motorsports.

Then please ask Polyphony to actually improved on really vital parts of motorsport. Financers (car ads/liveries) sure are very important. But how about deep mechanical costumization? Class regulamentations tunings? A livery system based on sponsorship for class/rank/performance, other than a mishmash of unlicensed liveries painted in whichever car to create it's own economy which has nothing to do with actual motorsport?
I've seen amazingly accurates liveries done in Forza, but those that actually don't match the existing car in body or tuning, they do nothing for me.

There's actually plenty of racing series with no or minimal liveries.

But we can't even do minimal in GT5...there's only 17 on-disc cars that you can assign something simple as a car number to.

Sethos said:

And somehow the addition of a livery editor would detract from the racing would it? What, are Polyphony going to pull all their physics and sim boffins off their projects and say "Hey! You couldn't help us build this livery editor could you?!"

I'm sorry, but this kind of argument is totally absurd. What does Photo Travel have to do with the racing? What does GTTV have to do with the racing? What does the Museum have to do with the racing? Should we ask Polyphony to remove them too?

@spwolf, I just don't know what to say. "Liveries play no part in motorsport". "[...]has nothing to do with motorsports."

Tell that to those who would like to design their own team emblems for when racing online; for those who would like to turn off PSN-tags and to be able to identify each other by livery alone, and not having the HUD tell them who is who...you know, like what happens in real life?

@cutmeamango "But how about deep mechanical costumization? "

I don't know how long you've been following GT threads, but I've been calling for deeper tuning/modification/customisation for months, probably years now; certainly since we found out how lacklustre these options are in GT5.

It's always been pathetic in GT, and I want it to change, and surely everyone does, don't they? I'm not sure who'd want the same rehashed cust/pers/tun/mod options from years gone by.

Because PD nailed the racing part, Turn 10 didn't.

I don't get why you always bring up Forza. This is the GT5 thread, not the Forza vs GT thread.

Because that's what the discussion was over the last few pages? And I'm the only one talking here? Thanks for only pointing me out - Appreciate it.

And it seems so silly to compare it to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

It was your random defensive GT rant that got my attention. Unless the rules have changed, direct comparisons outside the GT vs Forza thread are not allowed. Just wanted to point that out.

But hey, I'm just a troll, so what do I know.

Because GT is left in the 90's era while Forza is a big leap and Forza have already won tons of awards while GT, well 0, since GT 2. We just want changes because this is next gen, we want too see all cars have cockpit view, live editor and please more European and American exotic and sports cars. This game Gt5 turned into a Gt Nissan experience. Sigh... Yes Gt5 sold millions but I'm sure almost 70% of them including me has not touch the game for while. Itrs unfair for GT fans, because we want too see balance and new gameplay, this is Ps3 we are talking about.

I just wanted to reply to this after getting some sleep. I agree incorrect models are as bad as poorly detailed models, but I find it much more distracting in a race when there is a mix of standards of premiums than when a car has it's tail lights and exhaust slightly incorrect. Given that, and given that it is possible for other people to model accurately, I would like to see them massively increase the size of the modelling team, or outsource if they don't want to hire staff. The simple fact is, they need a bigger group of people to achieve what they want to achieve in a reasonable time frame.

Get your facts straight please, GT won tons of awards since GT2, all cars have cockpit views, standard cars have a simplified cockpit view, but it's still a cockpit view. If they removed all standard cars then all cars would have fully modeled cockpits, but how exactly is that better?

And "This game Gt5 turned into a Gt Nissan experience."... Seriously?

"Sigh... " indeed.

They have a new studio for an online stuff and are hiring more people. I'd say they're aware of that.

I would much rather have detailed livery and customization options then visual damage. I hope PD scraps the damage modeling and focuses on better customization. My $.02.

As long as they don't scrap, and actually improve on the mechanical damage I'm ok with this. It's gonna be near impossible to get the type of damage perfection Kaz wants anyway.

Of definitely, mechanical damage and collision physics are still very important. It's just visual damage that I don't care about at all.

Can I interrupt the arguments to ask some questions?

Played this online for the first time the other night with some guys I know off another forum. Firstly the host couldn't seem to create a private lobby - he named it, but random people still managed to join it (there is no way they randomly guessed the name of it). How do you avoid (in our case a very annoying kid) randoms popping in. I know you can kick them. but it isn't much help when a race has just gotten underway and you have to hear some teenage brat screaming down the mic.

Second, what is the easiest way to invite people as it doesn't appear as though you can invite people via the friends list? A couple of guys searched for the lobby, saw it, but said it was empty when they joined?

Third, can you only choose single car races for cars you already own? If the host owns that car, does everyone else then get the option to race it, or do they need to buy it as well?

Thanks for any help!

And if you think about it, very rarely you see damaged cars racing, 90% of the time you crash you're out. There's the ocasional damaged bumper/spoiler wing mirror and that's it. It shouldn't be a priority.

1. Private lobbies are your own lounge. Only people in the friends list of the PSN ID can join that PSN ID lounge.

2. Again, using the lounge system. They can join the lounge even without the PSN ID being online.

3. They need to buy it unless you use the recommended cars list, which is quite small.

Not sure what happened with the lobby then. The host made a room and then random people definitely entered. A couple of guys were very decent and we had great races with them. But the teenager just spent the whole time asking if anyone could hear them (in a shouty annoying way). They definitely weren't a friend of anybody's :/

Your friend created a public room. You need to go to 'My Lounge' to set a private game where only friends can join.

If you make an online room then yes it is open to the public. If you want a private game do it via the Lounge.

In GT Life (the main GT5 page with A spec and B spec on) go to community then click a user and it will have a coffee mug icon that says lounge as well as some other options. Everyone has to join that specific lounge to race. So everyone has to have that user on their PSN friends list.

The way we do it on GAF is someone has made a PSN account specifically for GT5. Then everyone just joins that lounge on race day.

That's the problem, he made a room. You don't make rooms when you use lounges. You simply join other peoples lounges. Go to their profile and click the lounge icon.

Then im glad its stuck in the 90s era where i can create a randomized track, race in the rain, in the dark and have a variety of driving modes(F1,kart,rally etc etc). If ps3 was swapped with a PC, this would be the greatest 90s era game in history of 90s era games.

Up to 400 cars. Wewt. Have they said how obtainable those new factory-reset tickets will be? I found the zonda's in the ucd but with heavy mileage. Would love to get them reset.

I have a GT planet account, but I never seem to find my way over there. Does PD check in with them or something? I should learn to twitter. I don't mean to sound overly critical. GT5 is my most played game, and will likely continue to be so. And I sure as hell don't want it to turn into Forza (bleh), but the game feels like it could be so much more.

Anyhow. You can get to 30 via seasonals pretty quickly these days, and make a million credits in 10 minutes on la Sarthe. So it isn't game-breaking by any means. But getting at least credits for arcade/practice would be a lot more fun than whatever mini/hothatch seasonal they'll come up with next.
