Gran Turismo 5 Super GT League Season 2 - Vorsicht statt nachsicht

Some much slower cars round Monaco would be sweet.

We need to do a "low tech" race where none of the cars have down force, no aero packages are allow, and sport hard tires only. Lets get some sliding!

Something like that yeah.

That's for next week though, this Saturday is all about high torque, high speed, tire eating LMP cars!

Yeah, sounds good.
Had fun with the online events featuring the Civics. The Civic RM is a great little car.

I'd love that. But there are no BTCC cars and none or just perhaps one of the other cars among the thousand cars available.

We will do a non-super gt event next week as well, I just haven't decided what type of cars yet.

Actually I'm thinking about doing something totally opposite of this week's event... We'll see what happens though. :)

Karting. You can thank me later.

BTW there are two or three contemporary BTCC cars but that wouldn't be much fun :p

how about we do a race where we all have the same car? You know, so Toxa can't cheat and have the best one.

Argh, damn, I can't make it to tomorrow's race :( It's a shame because last time I raced there I had some real fun with you guys and the DTM cars and I wanted an excuse to buy a 787B or a GT-One (if I ever see one :()

That low tech race around Monaco or something sounds really awesome though, and as I told Angst via PM, whatever we do I WILL be ready for the next one :D

Some of the best races Ive had online have been 1-make races, Ive suggested it several times but people here don't seem to like it for some reason.

That would be cool, sure. Ashk and I had the same car in the NRL, which didn't exactly boost my confidence though...

I'm thinking one-make race could be fun. Fiat 500 + comfort soft? ;)

Trying to get caught up with the discussion here about standing stars vs rolling. Let me just remind you guys what happened in the last super gt practice at Nurburgring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg9ZJn3sMjw

Now it was not a disaster but there was a lot of touching going into that first turn. With LMP's there is like no room for error. Everyone is going to be slipstreaming and it's going to catch a lot of people of guard when trying to brake.

I'd happily go with standing start but only if we spend like half an hour before the race doing 1 lap or 2 lap races so everyone gets adjusted to it.

Not the 500, dear god no. After doing the seasonal I have no desire to ever drive that car again.

A one make race would be awsome. A Ferrari 430 Scuderia race would be pretty damn fun. The car is fucking beautiful to drive. Moreover, you can have a lot of fun paint jobs and it would basically be a Ferrari Challenge race. I remember having some insanely fun races in Simbin 360 Challenge mod for F1C.

For the lower end cars I don't think we need to go as far as the Fiat 500 but just make sure all mods, especially aero are not allowed. That combined with sport hard tires only will make it more challenging. Racing tires and aero mask a lot of driving errors. Pure racing line and cornering on the edge of your friction circle turn after turn is incredibly rewarding no matter what speed you are traveling at.

So my PS3 isn't online until next week, but I would love to try some online racing with you guys. I'm not very good though and don't have a wheel or anything. What range of times is there normally in a race? I'm like 7 seconds behind what others have posted above, but I don't mind being at the back if I can at least see some other people.

Maybe a hot-hatch type race? If we do a one-make race, it should definitely be all stock, or maybe just allow suspension/LSD/transmission tuning?

sorry guys I can't make it tonight :( , I won't be at home until 9:00 PM GMT ...

it was supposed to be my last race because I take a break, I need a serious break now , I'm really tired, practice session for these races really takes too much time and I need some fresh air xD

But I'm still around for the best races ;)

sorry again :( anyway there was too much bentley on the track :p

We've done all races at 22.00 CET (8.00 PM GMT) and next week will be the same time. You're very welcome to join us, no LMP cars next week though.

So to another thing that's been discussed a lot lately, parade lap or standing start. Looking through the posts there's no clear majority, but I feel most are in favour of parade lap. Instead of discussing this back and forth, I'll make a decision - we go with parade lap this week. Next week we'll be racing in slower cars and then we'll do a standing start.

Is everyone ready for this? because Im certainly not. :p
I expect to pit every 5 laps, going beyond that is really hard with the DS3.

Also, we should do votes.

I expect to pit every 5-8 laps, depending on what the race situation looks like. By filling up 20 liters of fuel each stop I hope to avoid doing a long refill stop and thus making all stops really short. Last week I did a one-stopper on Le Sarthe, but as I had to fill 50-60 liters of fuel it took ages. And the worn tyres slowed me down far too much as well.

Fine but next week we have none of this bullshit and go standing start + light damage.

Not ready at all, the 1000 Km of Suzuka in B-Spec have been on my TV for the past 5h so I didn't train at all, I didn't push the tires to the limit plus I know I'm gonna get destroyed by the guys with wheels. This should be fun !

Lol, I presumed so, but when I was going to ask you in the lounge you disconnected. What car will you use?

Not sure yet, I have all of them favorited, will probably pick randomly 5 minutes before it starts lol. Is that a problem?

No, that's ok. It doesn't really matter, but if you had made a decision I would have entered it into the OP. And don't get me wrong, I was hoping you'd join, but as you hadn't specifically said that you would, I wasn't certain of it.

Edit - we're in the lounge

If you have just added it then GT5 sometimes takes a while to update your list in game. Just go back to the main menu then back to GT Life and it usually turns up.

No, even in the PSN, it says that the account hasn't been online for 3 days (when Angst accepted my FR I assume)... :-/

It's not supposed to be online... Just go to the GAFSuperGT account in GT5, click the coffee cup and lo and behold, we're all there :) It's att the very bottom of your list presumably, at least it is if you have no other level zero buddies.

We're just using that account's lounge to have a convenient place to get together. The account itself is only online if me or mush logs on to accept FRs.

For some reason I thought it was the account you used to race... >_<
Well, while trying to find a way to connect, I deleted the SuperGT account from my FL and sent a new FR so now I don't see it in GT5 of course... :/

Added and no worries man :)

If it doesn't show up in gt, go back to the main menu and then back to gt life, then community.

First of all, thanks to Angst for organising it. Nice to be able to race again, even if it was 5:30AM.

However, I really, really think we need to switch damage 'off' or to 'low' at the maximum. I was hit from behind 3 times into braking zones, received full engine damage and had to trundle around for almost 3 entire laps with a critically wounded car. That's just not fun. That is the opposite of fun.

I'm not blaming anyone for any of the times I was hit because I understand accidents happen. However, because of full damage, their slight contact with me gave me full-on engine trouble while they were able to drive off relatively unscaved. That's horrendously unfair as I am being punished heavily for someone else's honest mistake. It really sucks the fun out of racing, which is a shame because I really enjoy racing with you guys.

Also, I'm glad to say the standing-start test we did worked really well, so hopefully we might be able to try one of them next time. :)

Yup, damage isn't fun or done realistically, Forza does it much better. Really reconsidering my interest in the leagues if we stick with full damage.

wow that was a great race. I managed to take 1st position because the front guys one by one took on some bad damage. I snuck through on turn 3 and held onto 1st for about 14 or so laps. I got out of pits with a 15 second or so lead but lap by lap I was watching it disintegrate. Angst was catching up like crazy. There were laps where I'd keep the distance the same but the next lap he would push and would make up for the last lap.

Didn't take long for him but he caught me and by then we both needed to pit. There was some battling and we swapped positions a few times. By now FASJ and Nab were catching and took no time at all in getting passed.

By the end of the race I was holding on to the podium position with Angst breathing down my exhaust yet again. I'm not sure what lap it was but it was the final turn of the lap and I took a glance at my map only to find Angst's car stationary. I figured he threw it into the barrier but tried to keep focus and make it to the finish.

Overall really tough race for me. Didn't help that I had my car set up for La Sarthe and was losing 2 seconds a lap because of it.

It's crazy how both FASJ and Nab were at the back of the grid on lap two yet finished 1st and 2nd.

Well done to everyone who participated. I hope you guys stick around for more races. Also good job to Angst for organizing a fun event.

A few thoughts before going to bed :)

Overall, it wasn't a perfect race, but it was exciting. Because of pit strategy most of the time I wasn't even racing anyone except the clock, watching the distance to leader or second place. I'm a bit disappointed that I got taken out in the first lap and had to pit, it really messed up my pit strategy so I had to think while racing so I did a few little mistakes. Now I know why racing teams have a full team for devising strategy :) Anyway, I pit on lap 2, but soon get some more damage :( why makes the car very hard to drive in the first sector. But I decide to stick to two more stops so I don't pit until lap 7, and then I do a big stint all the way to lap 24. I came out in 3rd or 4th place and a few laps later everyone in front pits so I'm left in first :) There were 7 or 8 laps to go, seattle is on fresher tyres and he starts closing in, but I tried to keep it consistent and not push too much since I had a good enough lead. And then it ended :)

It was a bit weird how I didn't do much "real" overtaking, most of it was through pit stops or other people's mistakes. But I guess that's what endurance is all about :)

tl;dr: fun race, hope everyone joins next time too :)

Great job, Nab Seattle and Dibbz.

Dibbz I think you were the only car in the grid that got no damage during the race? If so, slowclap.gif.

Im guilty as charged for hitting some people from behind while breaking. Not intentional of course, but yeah, damage is damage. Again, Im really sorry.

The light vs heavy damage debate rages on.

I´m afraid that was me. I spun the tires (had TC control off) and the car snapped hitting you on the side, sending you to the grass.

I did get damaged too, had to pit and at one point was last.

Actually, first few laps were madness. On the parade lap i didn´t brake for the chicane and ended up hitting the barriers, then on the entire first lap i was just not up to speed. Should of have let Ashk go ahead, instead i made some mistakes and ended up messing our races.

Things only got going after my second pitstop, at lap 10. Started running 43´s and 42´s and getting closer.

Overall it was a good race, so issues, but that´s racing.

I´m impressed with how many laps Ashk made in his last stint. I was sure i was going to take the lead because i thought he was going to pit.

Wrong answer.

Well, let´s move on to next week!

Congrats EFJ on his first race! Lurk some more here that you will get your accoount activated. That goes for you too Chimilosky.

Awesome pictures as always G Rom !

Really felt i was having a chance on the podium pace wise but after a few unfortunate moments that dream was gone. I guess there is still next time !

Even though i had lots of not self induced damage i still vote for full damage.
