Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

Mad excited for this but I'm definitely keeping expectations in check.

Hopefully the Online world is as populated as the single player.. Red Dead having less animals online/not being able to skin them was a bummer, and every place we went to was basically a ghost town.

Not saying they're gonna cut corners for GTA Online, since it looks fully featured but... I don't wanna make up stories of things I can do in my head and be bummed out when I can't do them lol.

I'm mostly just excited to do some Reservoir Dogs shit with my friends online while blasting Kendrick in my MP3 player. I'm gonna be really antisocial this fall lol.
This right here. Free Roam really felt like a let down cause they watered down so much of the game for it. Less NPC's, no lasso, no random quests...etc

I wish R* would just do away completely with lock-on aiming for multiplayer. Personally didn't need it at all in Red Dead or MP 3.

An option in single-player is fine if some people out there use it, but they should drop it completely from multiplayer.

More people can play (and perform well) with lock-on, though. It's about getting people to play and keep playing, and have a great time while doing so, I'd imagine, not turning it into a traditional competitive mp where it's all about dem leet skillz and tracking your KDR like it matters to anyone.

Seriously, one of the major complaints about most competitive MP games is how bad everyone sucks ("fucking randoms!"). I don't see the issue with a game like this being modestly "easy" for most people, to the point where it doesn't really matter who you're playing with, you'll have a fun, accessible, balanced game.

I think it would be awesome if, in addition to assigning roles to potential players who choose to try out your uploaded custom mission, that you can also designate clothes for each role as well. So, say you set up a liquor store robbery, you have in the conditions for playing this custom mission Bugstar uniform, and everyone pops into it until mission completion. That would be very intellesting!!

having lock-on aim and free aim is stupid together. Just make it free aim and call it a day. The only thing I didn't like about MP3's shooting is the actual reticule size.. It was so freaking tiny! I loved the feedback from shooting and the controls but trying to aim that tiny dot was cumbersome in free aim mode.

I loved it, then again I generally went with dual 92fs in multiplayer. It was like firing pinpoint lasers.

That's my hope.

Also... (this is a stretch, I admit) this game (in order to make some really wacky mp scenarios) needs a big heavy ballistic suit. haha like a bomb suit. So if you did like a combat destruction derby, the driver would be protected from small-arms fire. Or you could have a VIP-type mode where you protect/target a slower bomb suit player / AI.

That would be pretty cool, and doable even if they just had a setting for gametype specific player gameplay traits. Appearance modifiers would be icing on the cake.

Say "bomb suit" VIP moves 20% slower, can't full-sprint. Takes much less damage, no headshot multiplier.

One team must escort him to an active bomb, the other targets him.

There are so many gametypes that could be done if the editor is/will eventually be good enough that regular multiplayer shooters can't because of the open-world aspec and variety of vehiclest.

CVG said that there's just as many vehicles and it looks pretty much identical to what they saw for GTA5 SP. They didn't specifically mention pedestrians though. From the videos and of what we've seen, looks like no difference in the amount of NPC drivers on he road.

What's most exciting about this MP is that they are really attempting to make a pretty flexible editor, they're actively talking about improving it over time, and the game is built on a really solid shooting foundation (MP3 combat was really good).

All the options in the world don't mean shit if your core game sucks. But if you tell me you have this really strong core game, 8v8 TPS, and you're allowing me to create maps and design the weapon layout and all that... really exciting.

One month and we'll know just how robust the editor will be. Fun times ahead.

I totally disagree here and I'm usually more of the "casual, let's have fun crowd."

GTAIV's online was trash when it first came out because it was a death fest with no skill. basically, one guy would get a rocket launcher or good gun and just keep hitting the lock on button and you'd be dead. You'd just run around sprinting holding LT waiting for the reticule to lock on, hit the button once or twice, and that's it.

They've GOT to get rid of the hard lock. I don't mind if there's a soft lock-on or something for early levels, maybe level 1 - 5 or something to help you get used to the controls... But the hard lock that never lets up form GTAIV ruined the multiplayer for the first month. At some point they figured it out and turned it off by default, but by then, most of my friends and I stopped playing.

You don't have a great time with hard lock because it's unfair and not skill based. Personally, I'd rather be killed by someone who I know is good at the game, versus something completely random because a guy could hold down LT and fire at me once it locked on.

Will I be able to use the race editor to make crazy Top Gear-like challenges?

Point to point races like car vs motorcycle vs speedboat vs skydiver? Bus/Limo/Taxi derbies? Race triathlons (racing + swimming + shooting?)

Are there any race tracks/circuits? (I know its not likely, but still, even one would be neat)

Its been a gaming dream of mine.

^ That's a great idea. They're likely to have "racing triathalons," IE, a race where you go from a bike to a car to a boat, or on foot to a bicycle to something else. But I wonder if you could mix vehicles totally.

One guy gets a plane but he has to drive to some crazy spot on the map to find it, and then ahs to parachute out to the finish at the end or something. Would be hilarious

hopefully this is true online free roam play, not a bunch of half assed instanced minigames thrown together, separated from eachother

if two random people are playing a game of golf on the golf course, i should be able to AT ANY TIME take my car and drive on the fairway and run them over killing both and ruining their game

because its fucking funny

Dont whine. If you dont want to risk being griefed, go play a private match with friends and play some golf

Red Dead online was hilarious and awesome when it first launch. then all that BS to limit griefing came out and the game simply wasnt fun to mess with people anymore

the idea that you would go to different areas, get a prompt and then magically warp yourself off to some separate entity of gameplay oblivious to the world around you is not only archaic, amateur in design, but devoid of the very notion something like a free mode is meant to be for

Sounds like you are going to hate the "passive mode" option, which I think it actually really great. A player can join a room and if they are getting spawn raped or grieved really bad they can enter passive mode which makes it so they can't kill anyone and also nobody can kill them. The player is still able to explore the world freely.

They had those in BoGT so them doing it in V should be easy enough.

That's awesome news. I figured I shouldn't be worried but yeah.. Better to be surprised by good news haha.

They mentioned in the CVG Interview that you can set up playlists, like start with a race on land, then turn it to a race in the air, then turn it into a race on water.

Holy bajeezus, I'm scared for my free time.

Here's what they said.

Will there be a way for Crews to directly face off in a mode to show who's the best?

We've got pretty huge plans for Crews, playlists, challenges, all that kind of stuff. We could set up a bunch of missions: you make five missions, I'll make five missions, we then combine them in the game, put them in a playlist, and then challenge all these guys to a head-to-head.

So you could start a set of missions on your map, with your set of goals, and we play yours, then we swap to mine?

Play can be made up of anything; anybody's mission, any style of mission. You just bung them in the playlist, it all goes through, and it'll score you at the end. You can do head-to-head challenges, or you could set a challenge for everybody in the world to beat. So you make a race - say, five races - set up a challenge, post it to the Social Club, then everybody else in the world can try and beat your score. If they do beat your score, then you've got to give them some cash - the amount you set when you set up the challenge.

So it sounds like they will add landmass to the Online portion but not to the SP portion. Kind of disappointing but if I can play with some friends (or alone) in the new areas without having some griefing asshole fuck everything up, I'll be happy.

I agree completely. If I were playing on PC, I would have downloaded a reticle mod.

Keep in mind that "adding landmass" is something they plan on doing in the long run, not 2 months after release.
GTAOnline is supposed to go on indefinitely, contrary to GTAV.

I don't like the sound of the bad sport labelling system. Look, it's GTA. An open world game where half the point is just to fuck around. If you put real people in that world with me I'm going to want to fuck around with them. Or at them. Don't label me a bad sport for fucking them over. That's part of the fun. It all depends on what exactly is considered being a bad sport. The only thing that's been confirmed so far is that destroying somebody elses car is considered being a bad sport. Fuuuuuuuck that. So if I just see another player randomly driving in the world and I decide to kill that player with my rocket launcher thus destroying his car in the process, is that considered being a bad sport? If so that's super lame.

if you guys think about it, story reason why the heists in online are simpler, might because are gta online character's arn't as skilled as michael....

i think the heists in single player will be bigger

The music is the last piece of the puzzle for me, not sure about everyone else but I was not a fan of the radio stations in GTA 4

GTA4 was the first time I've been disappointed with music in GTA. There just wasn't much there for me. And in spite of each radio station having a massive playlist, the same 5 or 6 songs would play constantly and every once in awhile one of the others would sneak in.

Welp, I think it's time to return to the party with GTA IV. I originally played it on the 360 back in '08, but I also bought the digital Ultimate Edition on PS3 that I have been meaning to dive into. Might as well fire it up tonight.

I wonder how much GTA online story effects their story....?

not a lot -- GTA Online events are occurring shortly before the story of GTAV. There might be some tie in to the main characters, but nothing that is interwoven into the SP GTAV narrative. You do run into other characters that you see in the SP game, though, though we don't know if Michael, Trevor, and Franklin are one of those

GTA4 was the first time I've been disappointed with music in GTA. There just wasn't much there for me. And in spite of each radio station having a massive playlist, the same 5 or 6 songs would play constantly and every once in awhile one of the others would sneak in.

Agreed here. I think some stations were good, but none that hooked me. None that made me do the "drive around San Andreas listening to K Rose / K Dust / Radio Los Santos" for hours type of thing. I don't like Rod Stewart, but I still get the feels whenever I think of flying around San Andreas listening to Young Turks in one of those biplanes around dusk. It's a legitimate nostalgia for me.

GTAIV's music was okay... the songs were all mostly decent, but nothing that had any serious pop hook other than maybe Kanye. And it also seemed like you turned on some stations and the intro for that station was longer than any other song. Like one of the stations I swear every time I turned it on, it was this heavy modern reggae song being like "Baddadaadum baddadadum baddadadum baa.." intro to the station that took like 30 seconds to go through. So practically every time tht station came on that's all I heard. It was weird.

GTA:SA and VC had song after song that may not have been hits but they all had an iconic hook to them... Tey had noteworthy artists, but generally wouldn't pick a single memorable song. Case in point, of all of the REM tracks they could have chosen, picking Turn You Inside Out... I felt like to listen to those stations you had to be really into those genres of music. Like the Hardcore station was a bunch of bands that, as somebody who doesn't listen to hardcore, they'd never appeal to me. In San Andreas, I had very little interest in 70s and 80s country, yet I ended up loving pretty much every one of those songs.

But some people swear up and down about the GTAIV sound track. I just didn't think it was very good for what the game is. I don't want some random Rockstar producers Spotify alt mix in those games. I want songs that could in some way actually end up on the radio.

CVG made it seem like that is only an exception to sports related activities. I recall how someone could be in a race but at the same time, there could be a police chase across the city and how that could interfere with the race.

They also mentioned that crew members can kill each other during a heist. I just hope that we can interfere in heists as well and take all the money for ourselves even if we're not apart of the original crew.

CVG mentioned that R* wants us to get use to the creation tools and that they will allow us to creative more complicated situations as time goes on.

I don't mind this too much but I hope it doesn't get abused. You shouldn't be able to turn it on while your health is going now.

I know...in fact I think it was the reggae station that would always start at the same spot when you switch to it...it drove me crazy...I used to be able to repeat it per verbatim...I think I will fire up the game just to have those nightmares again

^^

Haha this is EXACTLY what I was talking about. BADDADABUM BADDADBUM BADDADBUM BAT. Over and over again.

And then Radio Broker or whatever the rap station was always started the same too.. like a 45 second intro... the "beeeerr beeer beerrr brrmm.." west coast hip hop style.
