Grand Theft Auto |OT| NO GIANT SHARKS

Never played LCS/VCS, what did they retcon?
The most substantial thing they do is change the characters of Tony and Vic.

They're fitter. They have different voice actors. They dress more sharply.
I mean Vic sounded like a mixed Black/Hispanic dude in Vice City but all of the sudden he's a buff military brat in VCS? Okay, Rockstar. Okay.

Then there's dumb shit they do to the cities. They'll add a section here or there but it never feels organic. Always just tacked on and pointless.

If anyone is looking to play GTA III or Vice City and doesn't mind touch controls...I'd actually recommend the iOS versions.

It sounds crazy! I know. But the performance is so much better than the PS2 ones and they look really sharp. Plus the controls are pretty good I think. Shooting might actually be better since the camera and lock on are improved from the PS2 versions.

PC is also always an option, but I can never get any GTA game to run well on any computer. Never been able to figure out why, so I just went with the iOS versions.

Getting GTA VC + controller support with a logical controller layout is a challenge. Since Windows 7, VC and controller mod applications have run really poorly.

San Andreas + SAAC (old version) still works well.

I only played LCS and could never get into it. Played a few hours of it when they released it on PS2 and I was pretty disappointed... mostly because I had played the hell out of San Andreas at that point.

Old GTAs control like shit.

They control fine... you just have to adjust and tempur your expectations. You'll die a lot more than you will in GTAIV or RDR because the gunplay is more difficult and enemies, especially in Vice City, are a lot less forgiving. You can go through San Andreas and probably never die in a mission, but Vice City is pretty challenging.

Could it be the enabled Frame Limiter? Because with that option enabled your frame rate is limited to 30 fps.
It's a shame that without the Frame Limiter you experience many bugs in the III-era games on PC. I'm currently replaying San Andreas and disabling the Frame Limiter causes problems in cutscenes, animations are played too fast and shooting with the Uzi's while flying the jet pack produces some weird camera issues. But besides that the game runs soooo much smoother with solid 60 fps. But because of the aforementioned problems (and some more I can't think of right now) I'll stick to 30 fps and bite the bullet.

I don't believe so. I've toyed with that setting a lot and it never seems to change anything.

Honestly, 30 FPS is actually generous. I'm lucky if I'm at like 15-20. It's really weird.

It's a bit of a shame about the PS2 > PC ports of GTA. So many little issues and annoyances. Like that that frame limiter for example. Fucking bizarre.

It'll never happen, but I wish they'd port the touched up iOS versions to the PC with proper controller support and no weird framerate bullshit. Would buy them in an instant.

Did you tried them on a system with multi core processors? If I remember correctly, in those days, a dual core was about to become a standard for gaming PCs, many games had a problem with it.

That might have been it, but meh. Not too concerned at this point. Finished up Vice City on iPhone (still barely edges out GTA IV as my favourite in the series) and now I have some backlog to work through before GTA V in 12 weeks.

Holy shit. 12 weeks. Almost feels like the reveal trailer came out last week.

Don't think this is the problem. I played the III-era games on single-, dual- and quad-core systems and never had fps issues.

12 weeks?! Damn... I still have to finish SA (I'm not even out of Grove Street)... and Payday 2 will be out in a couple of weeks, in 6 weeks, too.

Yep. Technically a couple days less than 12 weeks. Coming up fast!

I have a bunch of classic PC games to play that I got from the big GOG summer sale. Going to play through both Icewind Dales, the first Gabriel Knight, System Shock 2, and some others. Then Shadowrun Returns comes out in July. Should tide me over until September.

That's a pretty sweet list there. That's enough gaming for most of the year!

Wait... Payday 2 is out in 6 weeks, my bad.

Was Kavinsky confirmed to have music in GTA V? This Polygon article cited him as one. Is NightRide FM a real thing, or will a Kavinsky song be featured in the game?

That rumour's been going around since last year.

Kavinsky himself tweeted about Nightride FM. In a response to a French journalist's article about Kavinsky being in GTA V, so it could be legit. Been no comment from R* about it, though, so we'll see.

Meh it's still 25% of a year.

I'll get excited in August until then... the doldrums.

This is depressing - we've been waiting for so long, but it's still not near. Let's hope we get a gameplay series for GTA 5. Liked these kinds of videos for LA Noire.

Yep I preordered back when they had the spyglass thing too got a poster and spyglass then and another poster today.
Damn. I might have to go over and pre-order soon. I usually stick with Amazon, but I actually want to do a midnight release for this one.

I wonder if they have any of the $80 editions left.

The guy at Gamestop was pestering me about upgrading my preorder so I would assume they do.

They had a lot of the posters left too which was surprising considering they called me a couple of days ago.

So I finally got around to playing The Lost and the Damned. Gotta say, most disappointing ending ever. Way to much went on for it to just end like that. So much that should have happened, didn't.

yeah, after playing LatD and GTA4 standard, I was hoping R* will have somthing more upbeat. luckily there was the ballad of gay tony. Let's just hope that we don't loss any awesome gameplay features in GTA 5 because of "story".

I'm just waiting anyday now for hopefully a big promo campaign to start for GTA V. I remember a few months before GTA IV came out they started showing all those little videos of characters and stuff in the game. Really hoping R* does something like that again.

Got two copies of the new poster. Both framed and hanging on the wall now.
Nice. GameStop also? I really need to get my ass over there. Just been so busy with work.

Me too, definitely.

I think they will. GTA is as sure a bet there is these days as far as a retail video game selling well, but there's other good stuff coming out this year also and of course all of the new console noise hanging over everything. I'm guessing they'll go all out with their pre-release hype/marketing blitz.

And i know we can't post scans from magazines, but this should come from an LA Noire promo-card.

Asked & Answered: GTAV
Posted 4 minutes ago | Author: R* K | Filed Under: Games

Here’s a special edition of Asked & Answered addressing just a few of the frequently asked questions we’ve seen out there from fans recently. Of course we’re aware that there are many more questions and curiosities out there about GTAV, so do stay tuned for more to be revealed about the game in due time. Meanwhile, you can always feel free to drop us a line via mouthoff@rockstargames.com where we’re glad to have a look at what you have to say and help out wherever we can.

“So can you switch characters? Trevor Michael and Franklin - can you play all of those guys? And everybody has their own missions???!” – @GTAVISBEST
"How is changing between characters going to work during missions?" – HIBMFL
“Do you have to switch characters constantly?” – killer772

Michael, Franklin and Trevor have their own separate lives with their own sets of friends and acquaintances, and even their own preferred ways of spending their free time. When you’re not on a mission, you can freely switch in real-time to any of the three characters to drop in and out of their lives letting you see what they’re up to. And because they have their own schedules, you’ll never know what they might be doing – you might drop in on Michael in the middle of a family dispute, interrupt Franklin chatting up some ladies, or Trevor on the run from the law – or whatever else these guys do in their free time... How and when you switch between characters when you’re not on a mission is completely up to you.
In addition, each of the guys has their own missions and side jobs. There will be times on a mission when you play as one character, or as combinations of two of them, and sometimes as all three, always being able to switch between the characters mid-action. Off mission, it’s up to you. You can play as one character on his own or hang out with either of the other two or both of them, or you can switch between any of them.

"If I play as Trevor, can I zoom out, find out where Michael is, and then go and kill him while playing as Trevor? #GTAV" – @GTALAD4EVA

In the open world, the characters are meant to be living their own ongoing and unpredictable personal lives, so understandably it’s not always easy to track one of them down in the vast city of Los Santos or the many towns spread about Blaine County at any given moment, but you will be able to find them. Having found them, (or simply after calling them up and arranging to meet them), you’ll certainly be able to hang out with them, annoy them should you choose, and maybe even assault them, but you won’t be able to kill them. They all have remarkable powers of recovery and good health insurance. The game is based on playing all sides of these three characters’ interwoven stories rather than having generic, interchangeable leads, so permanently killing a major character in that way wouldn’t make sense. If a player is determined enough though, they may well find a way to badly injure one of the characters and switching to that character would just put you in the hospital to continue where you left off.

“Hello, I noticed that the Special Edition of GTA V includes a large "blueprint" of the map. I was wondering if the Standard Edition of GTA V will include the traditional folded paper map that, as far as I can recall, has always been included with GTA games.” – received via Mouthoff
"Will a GTA V poster be included when the game is purchased?” – @ny718kid

As in all previous Grand Theft Auto games, we’ve made a point of including a map of the world to aid players in navigating the city. In all versions of GTAV, the game disc will accompany a map with all the details players will need to navigate the world. One big change though with this game is that with a world of this size, we created a double-sided map based poster to make sure players have all the information they might need to discover and explore the world. The blueprint map in the other editions does contain plenty of additional information and secrets on it.

“My name is Pedro and I have a doubt. When are you going to release the pre-order links of the Special Edition and Collector's Edition of Grand Theft Auto V on Brazil?” – received via Mouthoff

Hi Pedro, we’re working hard to make the Special Edition and Collector’s Edition available for pre-order in Brazil as soon as we can. We’re currently waiting on some customs issues to be resolved before retailers in Brazil can start accepting pre-orders. To all others who have questions about whether and where the Special Edition or Collector’s Edition is available in your particular country, we’ve been maintaining the www.rockstargames.com/V/preorder page to be as up to date and accurate as possible for all territories shown – if you have additional questions beyond that, feel free to hit us up at mouthoff@rockstargames.com and we’d be happy to investigate for you.

“Would you be able to tell me to what extent are weapons and vehicles customizable?” – @kieranmgklaceup

Without going into detail just yet, we can tell you that both will be very customizable – with a range of weapon upgrades as well as some very deep car customization. Stay tuned for more very soon.

“Rockstar, how many discs will the Xbox and PS3 versions of the game have? I am asking because I am just conscious of how many discs I will have to install onto my Xbox 360 HDD.” – cj67890
“Hi R*, as you said GTAV will be the biggest game that Rockstar ever created, normally it should be the biggest in size too. So how you are going to solve Xbox 360 disc limit issues? I mean will GTAV have many discs (on Xbox 360 platform)…?” – youtubos
“If we install GTAV on Xbox 360 do we have to insert other discs or not?” – Persian-boy1995

Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles. In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 systems. For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.
This initial install will require an Xbox 360 Hard Drive or an external 16GB USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space. If using a USB flash drive it must be at least USB 2.0 with a minimum 15mb/s read speed and formatted for Xbox 360 use. A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance. For PlayStation®3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.

“Will we ever see some GTA V gameplay?” – @ASTR4Lx

Yes. Soon (or in September if you don’t want to see it before you play it… it’s up to you) – the first Official Gameplay Video is on its way...

“Hey Rockstar, I'm curious whether you are planning on releasing GTA V on the PC...” – received via Mouthoff
“You've probably been asked before, but is GTA V coming for next gen consoles also?” – @tomtoon2010

The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.

“When will we get information on GTA V multiplayer?” – @camronbnl3

Expect to hear some first details soon – it’s called Grand Theft Auto Online and we’re very excited to unveil it for you sometime this summer.

“A healthy GTAIV multiplayer game is really hard to come by nowadays. By healthy I mean players play for good clean fun. Every time I join a game it's either modded or hacked. When I create a custom game, some abusive d*ck joins my game and ruins everyone's fun game. I can't just kick him out unless everyone votes. Do something about this in GTAV, Rockstar.” – received via Mouthoff

Ever since Grand Theft Auto IV was released, we’ve continued to integrate newer and stronger methods of cheat detection and prevention for each of our games. While we have yet to reveal specifically what new anti-cheating measures we have planned for GTAV, rest assured that we’re focused on creating as level a playing field and as fair, fun (and healthy as you say) an experience as possible for everyone. There will always be some people who want to cheat but we are going to do our best to stop it. We have spent a lot of time and effort making an incredible Online experience and proper support is part of that package.

“Hello Rockstar, I have a question: how much difference will there be between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game?” – received via Mouthoff

Players can expect the same great gameplay experience on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms as they have both been developed in tandem. Like all of our games, trust that we’re committed to making sure Grand Theft Auto V looks and runs as great as possible regardless of whether you pick it up for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and we are excited for fans on both platforms to experience Grand Theft Auto V this September. We expect any visual differences to be completely negligible.

“I smell a delay...” – SanViceCity
“Hope R* will release this game on September 17th. HOPE it will no be delayed AGAIN.” – creed_20103

There’s nothing to worry about, so we aren’t quite sure what you’re smelling! GTAV will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th.

Said this in the gaming side topic, but I really like the one time installation thing. Much better than having to switch later on at different points in the game. And it should hopefully help with performance.

And the "Grand Theft Auto Online" moniker is interesting. Seems like they have big aspirations for GTA V multiplayer.

New gameplay video in the works... damn. Very surprised by that news
Ah, yes, I was surprised also that they even bothered to answer that.

And for some reason their "first official gameplay video" answer makes me wonder if it'll kick off a pre-release series of videos similar to what the past few R* games have had.

I might/probably will switch my preorder to PS3.
My 360 has a tiny HD and its on the verge of death.

Gotta buy one of those 360 looking PS3 controllers though. Fuck you DualShock. Ugly ugsy yes precious she is.

I think I may be the only one doing this but whatever. I guess I'm an obsessed fan. This is everything I'm getting and have:

- 2 collector's editions pre-ordered and paid off at GameStop. PS3 and 360.
- Another 360 collector's edition coming by mail.
- Limited edition guide coming by mail.
- Regular guide and limited edition guide pre-ordered and paid off at gamestop.
- The GTA V PS3 bundle coming by mail (my PS3 is broken anyway)
- Thanks to my winnings at Foxwoods I was able to pre-order and pay off the ridiculous overpriced GTA V PS3 headset.
- I have two copies of the original pre-order poster so I can hang them (each side displayed)
- Two copies of the newest pre-order poster so I can hang them (each side displayed)
- I also have two of those viewfinders.

I want to make it clear I collect games, especially Rockstar games.

After all of this I will have both PS3 and 360 collector's editions unopened. The limited edition and regular guides unopened. I'll be playing my 360 copy. So hyped.

Whats wrong with your PS3?
It's not reading disks. And when it does it will freeze my game or just make noises. And if and when it does read movies (blu-rays) it will play briefly then freeze and skip. I got it in 2010 so I'm pretty sure the warranty is void. It plays downloaded games fine. I can probably try some form of lens cleaner but I just haven't. I don't think it would work I'm not that lucky. I've had this problem or at least a disk reading problem with each PlayStation console I've ever owned.
So you can buy me the super special edition with that awesome hat?

Thanks Raptomex you's a real homie!

;)
Yeah I only won $170.

That...is actually a pretty simple fix. It would run you about $30 to do it yourself. I've fixed about 10 or so PS3's that had disk reading problems.

What model PS3 is it?

No idea I think it's an original fat one, 250 gig. At the time I only bought it for Twisted Metal. I ended up getting other games but I rarely play it. I'll play GTA V on PS3 eventually. I wasn't going to get a new PS3 anytime soon but since it's a GTA V bundle I thought "what the hell". Good enough reason for me.

Not me, lol. I was on vacation last week and my cousins and I were at Foxwoods from Mon-Wed. My first time playing table games, too. My winnings mostly came from Roulette but I was kicking the dealer's ass at Blackjack on the first day.
