You play as a sailor scout's double-secret superhero identity who is actually an alien reptile from space, as they spread anarchy in totalitarian future Britain.

I really feel like Rockstar learned from their mistakes with the main game and tried to improve in the Episodes. So my excitement for V is huge. Can't wait to see the trailer. I'm hoping for a GTA set in Vegas(err well Las Venturas) during the 60's or 70's. That would be amazing.
I hope its not based in the past, I hope its modern day or at least the 90s

They should have just released the trailer out of the blue. Skip the announcement-announcement.

Because one round of news coverage is better than two?
Absolutely!
Not saying it makes any sense whatsoever as a marketing strategy, but it certainly would have been amusing to witness.

You'll be lucky if the PC version launches alongside the console versions.

I'd guess that Max Payne 3 will be R*'s test case for simultaneous console and PC releases. If R* (or rather, Take-Two) are pleased with the sales of the game, GTAV PC releasing alongside the console variants is a plausible scenario.

It would have been amazing, but now they'll be able to talk about how a gazillion people watched it day one, and how it destroyed fourteen server farms etc.

Yes, there are sooo many fantastic cities to set a GTA in, puzzles me that all 3D GTA have been restricted to the US (not that I mind, just willing to see some change).

Cities like Barcelona, Tokyo or Paris would be absolutely fantastics. But I can think of dozens of other that would fit the bill.

I think its because most people, while never being to those cities "know" what they are like from films and TV for example. Tokyo is a good shout though, everyone knows what it's like, but guess it just doesn't fit the market they have in mind?

Awesome, wonder what the dollar style font and design of the V/FIVE means. Pardon me if it's already been discussed to hell, but I wonder if this will take place in Washington or be deeply Wall Street/banker etc retaliated.

Seems interesting and appropriate for the times. Probably not, but I don't think such a heavy reference on the dollar/currency in design can equate to thug life 'monay monay' anymore.

From 2008:

“One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It's a slightly bigger DVD disc.

“I think that the 360 is going to have to get 'round this issue we're talking about. I can think of various ways they can do it. Hopefully, they're going to adopt one of those in the next year or so, because it's going to become more of an issue. If we're filling up the disc right now, where are we going? It's not like our games are going to get any smaller. I think that issue's on the table with a bunch of games right now. I'm sure they'll come through with an intelligent solution.”

Will the extra gig get the job done?

That sounds pretty cool actually (and relevant, obviously).

I would say more than likely, probably. The economy went in the shitter in 2008, which would have been when GTA V entered development. Knowing Rockstar's penchant for social commentary, it would fit.

The only way this game trailer will sadden me is if it's set in Liberty City again. We've been there enough, but fortunately that ad in the LC collection should mean that we're done with LC for the time being.

Maybe it'll be two DVDs, one with primatives, the second is just a giant texture pack.
Yep this is likely. Few years back MS was adamant about 1 disc and no HDD requirement. It'll be SP/MP in two discs.

Why not? It'll cause just as much of an uproar as CJ did, and for that reason alone I'd love to see it happen.

"OMG C'MON HOW I'M 'POSED TO BE GANGSTER USING A GURLLLLL?!?!"

will be the new

"OMG HOW I'M 'POSED TO RELATE TO A BLACK GUY?!?!?"

Its the perfect size. Bigger is not better when its bigger just for the sake of being bigger and barren.

Naaw, flying planes and riding bikes in the dessert was so good.

GOING DEEPER:

The wire mesh in the V is exactly the same as The Matrix when neo goes in for the first time.

GTA V is set in The Matrix.

My work is done here.

I mock the idea ... but I bet the Tron levels in SR3 are going to be a blast.

I wouldn't be against this idea to be honest, I'd just rather have it be something other than a GTA main title. Much like how RDR was its own beast.

Something tells me if it will not fit, they will break the city(s) into two discs. I would much rather they do that then scrap game assets.

I still wish you could install multiple discs on 360 and only be required to have disc 1 in he drive to play. That would solve a lot of issues and complaints about multiple discs.

We're all going to get excited by the trailer and then Rockstar will disappoint with the retail version. Then they will come out with expansions that end up being better but it'll be too late for some people and they will already have made up their mind about this era of GTA. And it still won't be as good as San Andreas.

Huh, i didnt even think of that.
Why would it have even been an issue to Sam Houser if they could just split it?

My psychotic female gang leader from Saint's Row 2 was my second favourite female protagonist in an open world game. My first being Carl Johnson.

I tire of the male gangster stereotype and both of those characters changed things up.

It'd be a huge endeavor and will never happen, but I'd love to see a combo of Red Dead Redemption and GTA where you play various generations of a family as the city grows around you as you skip forward through time as the story progresses.

Someone get on that.

Maybe no one had thought of it at that time, BF3 is the first to do it. Or maybe it was just not possible at the time under the then current TOS for publishers.

I only recently tried male lead in the other game (Walter White). The female was awesome, and a nice change.

My female in SR2 was definitely awesome and she'll be coming back for SR3.
