I figure you guys would know, I'm going in from black-out (only seen the first gameplay trailer) and I'd like to know if people now think that R*'s released footage was indeed from current-gen consoles (framerate was suspiciously great for a R* game) like advertised. Can I keep my preorder, meaning: how does the framerate hold up on PS3? Don't wanna spoiler shit for myself while looking for the answer and I disabled img and gifs on mobile GAF with this purpose in mind, so thanks a bunch for answering.

GTA IV framerate: not acceptable
RDR PS3: same as above
RDR 360: okay-ish, I'd probably keep my preorder
rock solid 30fps: would fucking love that and I wouldn't wait for the PC version (would double dip later).

Help me GAF-Kenobi, you're my only hope :)

Ps3 and 360 are basically identical.

I'd put it somewhere between "rock solid 30" and RDR. I haven't seen any slowdown on the streams, but some have reported small drops.

Sorry, have not been following these GTA GAF threads so much.

No worries, but yeah there is another thread that would eat that up.

Just be glad you didn't post an image or gif haha

At least over here we get to drink first so we can get drunk when we learn to drive later :p

But for real, 21 to drink seems like an impossible age for me. Over here we can drink at the age of 16.

Where are you? Here in the UK we have to wait until we're 18. I joined the Army at 17. Makes no sense to me,

I can't believe you can drive a 2000 pound car before you can drink and I live in the states.

I was 17 when I was visiting relatives in Canada and the father of the house couldn't offer me a beer legally (I live in the Netherlands where 16 is the legal age), so if I wanted one I would grab one from the fridge. He didn't want to 'break the law' and grab it himself. That was kind of absurd...

To chime in on the kid thing:

I played GTA when I was that young, as I'm sure did a lot you.
Although saying that, from the streams I've seen (no spoilers, don't worry) - this game seems to be a LOT more graphic than previous games in terms of language and visuals.
Again, not spoiling anything but when I heard what the prostitutes had to say as compared to what they say in IV, I was pretty shocked. I'm old enough to play the game, so it doesn't phase me at all - but I don't think an 11 year old should hear some of the stuff being said.

That among other things in the game. I'd be more okay with a kid playing Vice City which is very clearly cartoony and over the top as opposed to V which is a lot more visually realistic and graphic in many ways.

The wait. Excruciatingly difficult in these last couple of days! Just want that CE in my hands, and a good pair of headphones to get lost in Lost Santos!

I hope he means the Australian version which is cut. If not, yeah, dumb.

Just clarifying, I love Saints Row games; they are really fun. What is dumb/crap is that stuff is cut out from AU version, and the fact that it is 1 month late. I feel sorry for Deep Silver as it will be tough to compete with the almighty GTA V.

Dude its just a game. I am as big of gamer as you will find but I would never cry over getting a game.

Why does it matter if someone gets emotional over whatever? Life is complex, and the reasons why people enjoy certain things can be complex as well. EVO this year had more legit tension and drama than any sporting event from my perspective.

I went to Brasil as an exchange student. Literally there as long as you are old enough to reach the counter you can buy achohol. If you look at their fatalities by drunk driving its not even 70% of what it is in the USA, and they drive crazy in Brasil!

The key is if you don't act like its some crime to drink when you have kids and teach them how to drink responsibility. That never happens in the USA because if you are caught giving achohol to your children you could be arrested.

This thread is dying, we need the game now. It's gone from some overprotective parent's club to going back to predicting metacritic scores again.

Yes, I agree. Comparing GTA V to playing the first couple GTAs as a youngster is an absurd comparison. I don't understand people saying "the parent knows what is best for the child, I trust their judgement!" either, because there are an ungodly amount of shitty parents out there.

Like the ones who buy GTA V for a kid who is still in grade school.

Any wagers on Metacritic scores?

I'm calling 97 by the time all of the reviews have finished rolling out.

I'm thinking 95, mostly dragged down by graphics complaints.

Oh, it'll look great for a console game. But I think framerate issues and lack of decent AA will get under the skin of some reviewers.

Don't forget the 1 by a site who thinks they can single handedly kill a hype and try to gain buttloads of views with it. Which will probably succeed and then no one takes them seriously anymore. As if they already did.

Tom Chick is one of the best and most relevant game reviews at the moment, in terms of actual criticism.

After seeing a lot of leaked stuff, the metacritic score is irrelevant. Kids have access to the internet, the pornography and shock video capital of the world, so them playing GTA V seems irrelevant as well.

It's not just a game. It's a new entry in my favourite series of all time, which I have been waiting for since 2008.

The Elder Scrolls is my favorite series of all time, and I waited even longer than you for Skyrim and I garuntee you nobody has ever been more excited than me for a game than I was for Skyrim. While I was excited I crying never even entered into my emotions.

I'm in The Netherlands. We can drink beer, wine and some other soft alcoholic drinks at 16. The heavy stuff like whiskey or rum etc. from the age of 18. Driving is at 18 too.

Wow, never heard about that before. Sometimes the law is just crazy.

Different human beings process emotions differently, who woulda thunk?!

Don't worry MCN. Nothing wrong with feeling that intense rush of joy this game will likely bring you. The world is a bleak enough place as it is without h8rs stomping on your tears of joy.

I'm 29, and I'm pretty sure I'll be, shall we say, a bit emotional when I finally get my hands on it.

I'm 27. I'll be excited sure, but tears? Come on. I have the small bit of pangs of excitement I'd get the night before Christmas, but when I go to pick up my CE, i'm not gonna cry as soon as I get it, open it up and where my Los Santos hat crying in my car, while I got to pick up some whiskey and then go home to play it. I dunno. I guess, I'm not a part of the Cool Kids Club.

From playing it I could see a lot of minor things bump it down to a 9 for some reviewers. Still I'd be shocked if it didn't finish high 90s

How do you turn off police in gta iv? Didn't know that was possible.

In free roam online

But if the player isn't in the mood to fight the police and would rather engage himself by pushing NPCs down the stairs or starting fights, then the player's choices in those situations are going to feel boring for him.

The problem is not just about dealing with the cops and not dealing with the cops. There are activities, some player made, that can be done without the usage of a threat looming on their every action. It would be all well and good if the player didn't have anything else to do besides deal with the ramifications, but that's not true in the least.

If anything, my actions are limited and I am forced to respond to the threats that come form my actions, you dig? Like, I have to deal with this piece of the pie that I don't want but I don't have a choice. Clean your plate and such.

I guess that's isn't to say that you can't do those activities, but the enjoyment levels for me are extremely limited when you can be killed by a bunch of SWAT dudes. I honestly forgot about Free Roam, but that was just an online portion, correct?

I guess the online portion may be where I need to stay, so long as the content carries over (last time, you couldn't enter buildings and such so it felt kinda barebones).

I get you. And I'd agree that GTA Online would probably be the best place for stuff like that. A mode where the player has control over all of that would be best.

What exactly do you folks, against this 11 year old playing the game, think will happen after he plays it? Do you think he'll turn to a life of crime, turn into a maniac, try to solicit prostitutes?

He'll play the game, have fun, beat it and move on. America and Europe have become such nanny state places it's a wonder you'd think how western society even got to this point.

Kids are not dumb, they are inquisitive, smart and able to deduce many things if given the chance. Something a lot of adults have problems with today.

I was 4-6 when I'd play games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Mortal Kombat, and watch a shitload of rated R and horror movies. This kid's parents are obviously not absentee and I predict he'll grow up to be a pretty normal person. There are kids making bombs in Syria right now and we're worried Little Timmy shouldn't be playing a video game with mature themes/content.

Agreed! I wanna talk about the damn game!

From what I heard (earlier in this thread today) is 360 is a constant 30 FPS even in the most demanding parts. PS3 is 18-20 FPS in those areas.

Umm no, they are both pretty constant at 30FPS, I have been playing the PS3 version for the last 2 days with my friend who is playing it on his 360

LOL this post made me laugh! I will be pretty pumped when I pick up my CE from gamestop on Monday night (if I am not dead exhausted for being awake for 21 hours already due to work). I will probably open the game and put my hat on, but that's about it.

Oh wow, that's terrible. AC: III and TLoU aren't even playing in the same league if you ask me. But okay, to each his opinion I guess.
