Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Edit: i shouldve actually watched the video first ...doesn't look too bad

Why can't Ubisoft ever, EVER, get combat right in one of these modern AC games? None of them feel good or satisfying. None have any depth.

I dont even need "depth" just make the amimations and impacts satisfying for a change!
It actually looks great to me
The more I watch the more I like it

Looks like a more polished (in every single way) GOT with better graphics

Expecting ghost of yotei to be a level up from this though

Yeah, the combat looks fantastic. Way better than origins, valhalla and odyssey which were functional at best, and janky at worst.

This feels like what Ghost of Tsushima should've been and will probably be for the sequel. Responsive, well animated, with a varied moveset and some smart enemy attack tells. Just what an arcade combat system should be like. Glad they took the time to polish this up because these combat systems are just one or two changes away from feeling janky rather than smooth and responsive.

Love the weather effects, destruction and lighting. Though like Ghost of Tsushima 2, the lighting kinda feels last gen compared to Outlaws and Avatar. Maybe it will look better on my PC. Defintely next gen next to Kingdom Come which looks like shit and frankly lazy for a game almost 7 years in dev. The dev was also mocking Dragon Age which rubbed me the wrong way. If his game looked next gen in comparison then maybe id understand the gloating but dude, go back to work and make your game look next gen before mouthing off on twitter. At least Dragon Age had a great combat system. This guy has been working on this franchise for 10 years and he still has a simple 1v1 combat system in a game about perpetual warfare. A complete hack this guy.

Umm...why tho?

The trailer look barely on par with shadows, tsushi 1 looked worse than valhalla tech wise and they are not gonna get rid of their combat\animations system, sucker punch really hate using ragdoll, even a game where you literally make enemy flying like infamous never used it.

If you think that they are gonna change their combat system after so many dick sucking from media and fans you are in for a rude awakening.

I expect tsushima combat with just more weapon.

I played some more last night. Day time in the vatican. It is exceptionally bland in ways PS4 games just arent. We were talking about RTGI in the other thread being better than baked but this is one game that looks bland even compared to last gen games.

Maybe Path traced version looks amazing but i dont think ive ever seen a game that looks this dull since the PS3 era when they didnt have enough vram to fill in the world with good textures and lots of assets. A complete lack of volumetrics also doesnt help. The trees look bad. The levels feel bland and empty.

Some areas do look good but they are rare, and the lighting doesn't exactly look right in those shots either.
Youre not wrong, this isnt a game with high quality assets, models and textures are quite dated, characters are not great, its not bad, but its pretty much the definition of "good enough". The sky is the biggest offender here and it looks out of place. All of those are important things, but theyre not the only things that matter, whats really good and standing out to me are the effects, like lightning and shadows for example, i did not try it without full RT, but i imagine its much harder/impossible to fully appreciate the things that imo carry the visuals (along with level design) here without using pathtracing.

I was one of the few in this thread that was praising the ghost of yotei trailer lol. I thought it looked really damn good, and I rewatched it last night after seeing this ass creed gameplay and I still looks good.

it’s one of those times where art direction AND tech work together to make a damn good looking game. Normally, a shit dev like From Software, their art direction and tech hate each other and don’t work together. They dont know how to blend the two.

But this...

I think we’re getting the return of Naughty Gods tonight bros
It will be interesting to see how it compares against Tomb Raider which is also supposed to be there. Tomb Raider was a looker last gen but ND topped them with uncharted 4, and sadly Avengers was ignored because it was GaaS.

Crystal Dynamics is still very talented and are using UE5 whereas ND will be using their own tech. If ND can top UE5's best which is what im expecting from CD that would be awesome to see.

The Mafia trailer seems to be rendered inengine so no gameplay i guess. borderlands will have gameplay but thats the B team over at Gearbox.

Why are they not rendering grass in the distance? It looks like a flat texture. Honestly this was my biggest issue with Ghost and i thought they had fixed it going by gifs like this, but now that i look at them again they have carefully choreographed it not to show too much of the horizon.

This one shows a larger view but same flat texture.

The graphics of this game have the potential to be like the top, top tier for open world games ...i have high hopes for this on PS5 Pro ...and yeah i spoke too soon regarding combat

What do you mean?

They are rendering the grass? Doesnt look flat to me at all, look at the horizon.

Come on guys, those shots are compressed and fucked up to hell and back; can't really tell if the grass detail is there or not (looks like it, though).

Arfifacts are bigger than characters, ffs. And I'm not trying to defend it, I too think it's not that impressive either.

Some scenes in AC Shadows the lighting looks next gen to me ...i think when we have it on our Tv's it'll be every bit as good as Outlaws and Avatar.

Im also hoping KC 2 is another example of needing to see it in person. I actually think it looks great but as you know im a console only guy so it looks to be a big step up from ps4 version. PC KC1 blew the console versions to kingdom come ha.

these days every game has to be seen in person to appreciate because the improvements are not as overt ...the granular detail and the way light interacts with materials is killed by compressed footage or stills and another thing with KCD2 is how similar the artstyle is might also negatively affect perception? I dunno i need to watch again

With Yotei don't you think the mountains in the distance show a difference in detail compared to Ghost 1? You can see the trees on them whereas in ghost 1 they would've looked smooth ...

The screenshots are from the PS Blog page announcing the game.

Isn’t Tomb Raider going open world?

The base game has terrible draw distance. It's much improved.

Honestly speaking If all the rumors and hype about tga ends up true it will be the best showcase in the history even beat sony best showcases last gen it felt, but hopefully they won't disappointed us with cgi trailers for most of the show

the mafia trailer is pre-rendered in-engine cinematic. so do expect some of those at the show.

I’ll catch the highlights after the fact, but I’m expecting for there to be some nice graphical giants at the show tonight (while keeping my foolish hope of a new Ninja Gaiden game alive. One day.)

I want to see titles that will actually push/take advantage of the extra performance that is there on the PS5 Pro, and push the base PS5 and Series X also. Games that will make 40-series and PC users in general salivate, or be terrified lol. Imagine if we got a new look at GTA 6 today, I don’t expect that at all, but just imagine.

Avatar patch dropped on PS5 Pro - lets you toggle between FSR 3 and PSSR and adds in the old quality and performance options, can say confidently all the modes look like shit apart from the 30 FPS quality mode.

lol i tried telling people that 45% improvement isnt going to be enough. the game already dropped to 720p on the base ps5 in performance mode. 45% only gets you to 900p.

though i was hoping the new RT cores would help them outperform the GPU but i guess that was all bs too.

Yeah, the “unannounced” is an RTX 5090 workhouse lol. W4 looks absolutely mental, though. If that trailer really was all in real time, then hot DAMN. “Diminished returns” my foot lol, that trailer literally looks like offline rendering.

Naughty Dog are either gonna reveal something next year during Sony’s big show, or they’ll be back for PS6 lol.

EDIT: Never mind, there you go!
