Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

James Bond was fucking amazing! I knew that game looked great in the trailer but watching the long form gameplay showed off the game much better.

First of all, the outdoor lighting is great. it's well ahead of uncharted 4 and other similar games from last gen. Lots and lots of foliage detail as well.

Then he went indoors and its literally a next gen Hitman. I was always very unimpressed by Hitman interiors, but not this time. The lighting and material quality finally matches the NPC density. This feels like a massive step up in details on the walls and indirect lighting.

The chase sequence was fun, the combat feels like it will be a lot of fun, lots of new melee moves, and everything feels like it has physics to it. You could chain explosions from one exploding barrel or car to another. Enemies get blown away by explosions. When he got on the plane, the wind physics affected the speed and direction of the throw. Inside the plane, it's all moving side to side like that uncharted 3 plane sequence. it's beautiful to see.

Expected this from ND. Getting it from IO is bizarre but amazing. This is by far my favorite demo of this generation. And it's a real level in the game, not that bs HFW demo.

P.S LOVE that the framerate was dropping well below 30 fps at times. Especially when physics and explosions were happening during these insane setpieces. Finally a developer that gets it. Give me next gen setpieces and i will forgive the frame drops. Never been so happy to see framerate drops.

Seems like sony studios are the only ones who didn't come this gen

This one should really, really shine on a high-end PC. Really looking forward to it.

Goddamn, I just went and watched the gameplay... Really doesn't look bad at all, although the artstyle still doesn't entirely vibe with me.

I swear you have the hottest takes.
It's not that there were a few dips below 30fps, the whole sequence ran at 20-25fps with motion blur crancked to the max, it's just horrendous. I rewatched it on my oled and had to turn it off.
There's also A LOT of pop in and aliasing.
Also, the whole action sequence was done better 10 years ago by ND by the way, a whole fucking decade.
The game has potentiel but it needs some serious work. It looks like it's still a year away.

Watch this direct feed version also it's frame rate looks horrible but it looks amazing

We are finally getting games that are using PS5 as a base, and not the PS4. We should be celebrating this. im sure DRS will kick in at launch and smooth out the framerates like they have ALL gen. most games have very large DRS windows that go from 1512p all the way down to 1080p internal before being reconstructed to 4k. they probably dont have that implemented yet or they just wanted to have good IQ for youtube.

There's also A LOT of pop in and aliasing.
GREAT! That means its real footage taken from a console and the PC version will be much better with DLSS and higher draw distance.

Some morons still think that ps5 and this gen can't handle great graphics lol all of the below are running on PS5.

If we're being honest we have a

-one-in-a-generation game (unlimited budget, time etc.)
-game that can't maintain 30fps (yet)
-tech demo of a game that won't be out until q4 2027 in the best case scenario
-corridor game.

Not sure that list demonstrates the power of the PS5 ^^ .

What I saw from 007 trailer is the character models, polygons and animations was superb, plus the lighting. I can't say same things for level design, the assets appeared to be of very low quality, old-gen.

Also the game is screaming ''play me on PC''. What was that blurfest?

I don't argue with what you said but all of this points and cases are far better than thinking yoti is this gen standard like some morons on other theards

I am honestly happy with what we've gotten this gen. I dont need that once in a lifetime $2 billion game or a PS6 day one title like Witcher 4 to convince me that the gen has already produced some stunners.

For me, the gen started in 2023 and has consistently been great. Jedi Survivor, FF16, Starfield, Callisto, Avatar, Hellblade, Wukong, SH2, Outlaws, AC Shadows, MGS3. This is just another game in a long line of fantastic looking current gen titles. Yes, sony, japan and nintendo have released some pathetic looking titles this gen, but fuck em, i am happy some devs are pushing these consoles to the max. Hats off to them. if they fail and turn in a sub 30 fps game then so be it. At least they tried. KojiPro tech director literally said they didnt even bother because the jump in graphics power wasn't there. To me thats a bigger cardinal sin than a game that might drop below 30 fps on a console that would be 6 years old by the time the game comes out. especially with PCs literally 5-6x more powerful and Pro already available.

Indoor assets are very high quality. Compare it to the hitman game that came out in 2020.

+1

Mafia might not be the best looking UE5 game but it continues to impress. I really like the trees here and the asset quality on these bricks and stones is classic UE5. The lighting is probably not a huge leap over RDR2 or HFW, but its growing on me. The northern areas look much better than the somewhat bland and dull areas in the beginning of the game.

Man, if people were flipping their shit because of the MGS Delta's performance I can only imagine what will happen if 007 comes out running like that.

Glad it's grown on you!

Just watched the bond video. It looks fucking fantastic and with destruction and physics
The grappling interactions were excellent as well. We're getting what was promised from that initial last of us 2 demo.

The fact we have all this in one game shouldn't be overlooked. The destruction, melee, environment interactions, npc interaction, total npcs all cost resources.

Truly the graphics of 007 surprised me i know from first trailer it's gonna look good but this is beyond my expectations also it's proven one more time if any developers focus on upgrading their engines they can match UE5 quality

The asset quality and enviroments in 007 look good, big step up from Hitman 3.

Some major weakpoints tho: the effects (mainly shadows and AO) indoors looked all wrong, really hope itll have RT shadows, ambient occlusion and reflections. Bit too much pop-in during the chase too, but whatever, this looks far better than anything the studio has ever done. A pleasant surprise overall, i like what ive seen, this game needs an Nvidia trailer asap.

007 looks simply awesome. A smaller dev like that is out doing Sony, the textures are dense, the geometry is great, the fidelity is great. This is one of the more impressive games this gen. the car rendering great. The main character model and lighting is great. The NPC faces are last gen but the density felt almost CGI in some parts like the theatre room.

They have well over 500 people on full time staff, one of the biggest self funded devs in the world.
They're bigger than naughty dog and the same size as Santa monica.
they have done a phenomenal job. Hats off to all of these 500 devs.

i was surprised by the reflections indoors. dont know if they are RT but i wouldnt be surprised. And if they have RT reflections then it should be easy to enable shadows and AO on the pro or PCs. Hitman 3 did get an RT patch on PC iirc but i think it was limited to reflections and shadows.

they make use of tons of planar reflections in their games. every glass surface and mirror you see uses planar reflections.

in Hitman, NPCs can actually see you in reflections and react to you if you do something that alarms them.

fun fact, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory also did this.

Planar reflections are higher equality than RT reflections, so RT reflections would be a downgrade.
planar reflections don't suffer from the shimmering and ghosting that RT reflections inherently have.

Interesting, so that why the mirror at 12:27 and stuff like windows look so right compared to stuff like car paint and furniture.

Watched a snippet of the 007 gameplay, I was already sold off the first reveal trailer - This solidified it. I didnt watch much, maybe like 5 minutes out of the entire 30. Gaming these days is MUCH better when you go in seeing as little as possible before hand.

From what I saw, looked fabulous.

I dont give a shit about the framerate, means they are pushing things to the limit. Lets go. Well done to them. 2 months before GTA6, just enough of a gap .

Agree on everything except your disdain for Death Stranding 2. I get that isn't using RT for lighting and that unquestionably would've made it more impressive but the improvenent over DS1 is there and the game looks great while also running great. Yes theres some artifacting at times but overall this games visuals are so solid it deserves praise. If Horizon FW gets recognized for its great visuals then this deserves to be as it looks better 75% of the time. Im continually impressed by the environments and lighting quality in DS2, despite not having nanite or real time gi. HDR, image quality, 60 fps, decent resolution (on Pro) this has to count for something. This aint no Yotei situation.

I agree that they could've targetted 30 fps and made a generational visual showcase but hard not to be mostly satisfied with such a well balanced package

That's how ioi keep their generational differences, sony studios fuckers specially sucker punch should learn from them
Hitman blood money ps2

Hitman absolution ps3

Hitman 3 ps4

007 ps5

When HFW came out in early 2022, there was nothing else like it. On PCs, we had Cyberpunk but with the PC gpu shortage, very few people had played it with RTGI, reflections, and shadows. On consoles, it was the undisputed best looking game of all time for a good year or so.

But it's been 3 and a half years and standards have changed. You cannot release a game with last gen textures, assets and lighting anymore. I do think it has its moments especially in cutscenes, and some areas look better than others, but when a dev says I didnt even try because i dont think the console is powerful enough then it becomes something more than just a good looking cross gen game, it becomes an indictment of the developer's complete lack of ambition and inability. And thats why i brought them up, games like this, gta6, and ac shadows show that the console is powerful enough, they just didnt even try.

The hit reactions from guards when shot where mostly fantastic too.

Without even reading his reaction, i bet slimy absolutely loved 007, the trailer was full choke of mindless spectacle :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Game look like wannabe uncharted 5 and after u4 i'm not sure if i have it in me...

Sony really is doing all they can to not make me buy a ps6.

007 had some awful awful animation blending, looked very awkward switching between animations. desperately needs a better system or something like motion matching. Looks so bad when he pushed people off heights etc. The car moves a bit floaty too, I just don't think IO are very good at animation, Hitman has always been weak in this area too. Visually a very mixed bag imo, lighting looks a bit awkward, specially in the car scenes, character rendering is very ps4 level, environments and npcs look quite good, the reflections look good and the explosions and vfx are quite decent. Asset quality looks mostly decent too. I'm not too worried about the framerate tbh, it was very distracting in the stream, but I'm sure they'll fix it up before launch. Wow, the moment at 23:45 in the trailer looks embarrassing tbh, ps2 level animation lol.

The car explosion around 20.00 look bad bad, mad max had much better car explosions is not even funny.

Imagine putting this thing close to hb2 or gta6...

Might be a controversary take, but for me Henry is up there with Arthur from RDR2
I still prefer arthur by far.

Something in his voice and way of talking.

Also arthur was more naturallt badass because he is an experienced warrior at the start of the game while henry kinda remain a punk for most of it, even when he become a full fledged warrior he has many instances where he is not respected or menacious at all.

Arthur slightly raising his voice and changing his tone made people shit themselves in the game, dude was the definition of badass with an heart.

I think it's the difference between having an open character that is a vessel of the player and having an hard coded character that you can't change much, like geralt in the witchy or adam jensen in deus ex.

And how the heck does HB2 ,a tech demo, stand next to GTA 6? An absolutely beautiful corridor void of any gameplay and AI?
Look at the bigger picture. A game can't do every single thing better than the games before it. The Mad Max comparison is not appropriate. You can have this argument for literally every game out there. It's a compromise. 007 pushes graphics/interactivity/AI/physics absolutely in the right spots while still being an actual playable game.
So yeah, I believe at the end of 2026, it will be among the best looking games of that year.

I have to agree, DS2 as an overall package visually is getting too much hate here. I'm very very disappointed they're not pushing much technically with RT or advanced geometry, but it still looks excellent overall. Asset quality, lighting and effects are brilliant and it's nice to have such solid image quality. Cutscenes are some of the best real time visuals this whole gen. It's just a shame where it has rough patches, bland lighting in some areas, poor detail streaming in others and a lot of this would have been fixed by using RT and more modern streaming tech. As an overall package it's still one of the better looking games this generation though, it's just that it could have been even better looking had they bothered to actually take advantage of the new hardware properly.
