Graphics Card Question:

is it stupid to get a Geforce 6800 (GT or Ultra) and only get 128MB RAM? The pricetag is too freaking high for the 256MB version. But if it's a waste to not spend the extra $80-100 then I'm screwed. Any thoughts?

honestly, it's probably not worth it, however the 6600 GT (AGP) is as good as the vanilla 6800 and is much cheaper than the 6800 GT. I'd also throw the ATI x700 out there but they won't have and AGP version until January.

Aren't all geforce 6600s PCI-Express? I can't find one that isn't.

Nevermind. I found some. Is XFX a good card manufacturer? What about Albatron?

I don't know which manufacturers are making the best cards right now, I know my eVGA 5900XT has held up well but they don't have an AGP 6600GT yet. But I bet the guys at Beyond 3D or Hard OCP could help you out.

newegg = Price: $225.00 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-150-080&depa=0

it's cheaper than pricewatch @ NewEgg, a trend I've seen for quite a while. I think I got mine from Outpost or Buy.com for $219, but retailers know how popular it is now. It's still worth it wherever you get it from.

or for sub $100, this is your best bet:

all for $78.00

This is the best value I've found so far. I needed a videocard sub $100, and this is the best deal I've found for a 9600 with 128-bit memory.

I have that video card.

Its pretty good. A great card for 80 bucks and will play unreal 2k4, doom3 and halo without stuttering. (on almost high settings, except for doom3 which for some reason always stutters on the first enemy)

good card, i highly recomend it
