Hm, I figured the new assets would be remade in the style of the old assets anyway. I'm hoping for something that's as faithful to the original as possible simply because I likely won't ever be able to experience the original. But I understand we might not be the primary audience for this remake, I'm sure there's plenty of interest in Japan alone.
Haha this comment feels slightly loaded, but that's okay =) Western audiences who love Suda's games and Japanese games generally are crucial to this project. We definitely want you all to be happy with what we're making. We want to create something faithful to a 1999 PS1 release that simultaneously feels like it isn't out of place on PCs in 2016. Challenging as that is, I think in the end this will strike that balance and will be satisfying even to enthusiasts who'd have wanted to play with the original UI assets.
