Greatest Hits for Nintendogs? Will we see them?

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
I got to thinking about it at work yesterday since it was so quiet.
The PSP is the first sucessful handheld to use a disc medium. Does anybody know what the estimated cost is to produce a PSP UMD disc?

If its cheap, then perhaps will see GH titles on the PSP for $20.. it would be awesome :)

I thought I remember hearing that the costs for GBA cartidges would cause them to go outta print earlier cause there was not enough demand to warrent a second print. Hence no Players Choice on GBA.

Might be better to wait on asking this question until they've at least launched in Europe and had a holiday season in all three major regions...I don't cost of UMD manufacture is going to be a barrier here, it's just a matter of time and how much success they achieve in the marketplace.

I certainly hope so, it'd show Nintendo how much potential sales they've been missing by not doing that with GBA. Lowering the price and resoliciting stuff like the Super Mario Advance games or Pokemon E&S under new Player's Choice skus and keeping them in print to constantly replenish stores' stock could have easily been millions of extra sales in the bank by now. Friggin' morons.

They did that with the original Gameboy...

I have a feeling this will happen. You'll probably see a Greatest Hits line in about a year; a year and a half at most.

I think that was a big problem with the GBA library on the whole. The only games that seem to be available cheaply are (with a few rare exceptions) the duds. The great games just never seem to get that drop in price--either they're proven hits that are still selling for $30, or they're niche titles that get small production runs and quickly disappear.

Wouldn't it be great if new GBA owners could pick up a game like Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow for $15-$20? Unfortunately, most people will never see that opportunity, because the game was only out there for about 2-3 months in 2003, and then it suddenly vanished. It's not like it was a flop--it seemed to be selling fairly well for the short time it was out there. I don't know if economics are preventing Konami from making another production run, but it certainly seems like at least a contributing factor.

The lower production costs of UMD discs should make a "Greatest Hits" line possible. A year from now, launch games like Ridge Racer, Wipeout Pure, Untold Legends, and Lumines could all be emblazoned with that red...no, wait, green...um, some colored stripe that proudly declares to the world, "I am a Greatest Hit!" I also think the economics of UMD will enable more developers to take a risk on niche/budget titles that can still manage to look and sound good without having to settle for a smaller-capacity format or sacrifice the ability to save the game in progress.
