I've been really enjoying the multiplayer on PC. While I have some quibbles with how the mode is structured (which I will likely get into in a later post), it's been a whole lot of fun. By and large, most people have had mics and have been courteous on and off the track, and the netcode is truly fantastic.
A couple days ago, I was in a custom lobby where whoever won the last race got host privilege and chose the next event. It was a pretty full lobby with people on three separate continents, with the host switching every event, and there were no issues. The "smart" collision system that turns collision off in the event of significant lag or a huge crash works damn near flawlessly.
PROTIP for money online: Do the Racenet weekly challenges. Not only do they reward you rather handsomely depending on how well you do, you get paid at the end of the week depending on how you placed on the leaderboards proportionally to everyone else. The first week, I was slightly above average and got around $200k for how I placed.
What was the +200MB update that Steam downloaded for the game, does anyone know?
I noticed that when browsing for custom MP lobbies, it now shows the maximum number of players allowed in each lobby. Also, once you are in a lobby where an event has already started, there is a timer showing how long the race has been going (either that or how long you have been waiting in the lobby, didn't test to be sure).
Sans a proper spectate ongoing race option, a timer that shows how long the event is going on for could be helpful in reducing the number of people who join a lobby only to quit immediately when they see that an event is in progress.
In the online where do you actually buy cars? I have looked several times and can't see a garage or store at all.
After Online in the main menu, go over to My Cars and select that. There will be a VW Golf there for you and several slots to the right. Click on one of those empty car slots to start buying a car. You'll probably want a used car.
It's worth noting that the pricing and availability of the used cars changes roughly daily(depending on demand?). When I first saw the Cat C Touring Chevy Cruze, it was $200k like other cars in the category. A few days later, it was $95k.
