Grounded 2 coming July 29 to Game Preview | Xbox Showcase 2025

This was the one, the announcement I've been hoping and praying for. Played the first one with my two kids and it was the most magical gaming experience I've ever had in 40 odd years of gaming. I've not been this hyped for a game in a while. YESSSSSSS!!

*Raises Shield*

Grounded was the best thing Obsidian has made since Stick of truth so the sequel makes sense. Kind of wish they put more into this than their other titles

First one is of my all time favourite games. And it isn't just the co-op that made it special but the sandbox: the backyard map is probably the best open world ever designed and I'm afraid that the park location will take away some of that contained magic away.

They are still one of the few if not the only ones who allows you and friends to save a shared world online and then have it persist between everyones play sessions, being able to hop on, build part of your house then log on later to see your mate has done the same and crafted the bows for example is what makes these sorts of survival games great.

Not needing to run a dedicated server 24/7 is a godsend.

I was super excited until I saw "game preview"

Just means another year wait until full release. Early access and preview is such a cancer

Yes! My friend is not really into building so I do it without him (I ended up building my super base around the trunk of the tree, high enough for spiders not to bother us.) but he gathers materials and then together we do quests and exploration.

fairly similar to how we work, my mate is an architect so he loves just designing the most over the top bases so i'll hop on and just build my little square hut and resource farm while he build.

i'm always jokingly the farmer if any survival game has farming elements.

Loved Grounded 1, played a ton coop online with a friend

For sure this will get a go day 1

Man, Obsidian is on fucking fire in 2025, wtf?

Always wanted to try the first one but the combat looks basic\terrible, if they made combat better i could try this one.

Either way, give it a try - combat might not be its strongest point, but it's genuinely fun to play. The main appeal lies in survival, crafting, resource gathering, and building your own base and shortcuts like ziplines, etc.

I don't like crafting and survival and building games but i loooove the concept of being small amongs insects like in that old movie.

And only the setting is not enough.

how did you play it with kids? I have PCs only. Do I need an Xbox or do I need multiple GP subs?

Fuck, I might have to buy it on PS5 and/or switch to get seamless coop for the 3 of us.

if you got say a couple of series s and a game pass sub you can set 1 as a home console and the second console you sign in the xbox account which has the game pass sub. The home console will have access to the game pass sub belonging to the main account so any xbox account that signs in on the home console will also have access to the game pass sub. The main account would need to be one of your kids. You would then simply buy the game on your PC. Other wise you could just buy it for your PCs probably the easiest way

It was through sheer determination lol. Crude at the time, but it worked. This was five years ago; it's much easier today.

Basically, I owned the one copy on PC (where I played and hosted the world). I set one child up with XCloud on the cheap HP laptop that was knocking about and my other on the big LG OLED in the living room, because miraculously LG's built-in web browser supported Game Pass like a native app, it was surprisingly useable. The kids were only 8 and 10 then, they didn't even know they were streaming the game. This was back when Game Pass Ultimate keys could be picked up on eBay for a couple of quid a piece, so I just topped up as required.

After reading since that this exact experience was shared in many households at the time, I'm 100% convinced that Game Pass cloud gaming was largely responsible for the game's success.

Looks a lot bigger than previous game.

It all depends on how well designed the park is. Part 1 progression through open world was something special.

Not my kind of game, but the trailer was fantastic. Looks really good for those into it!
I'm not really into crafting/survival games, but I fell in love with the first one instantly. It feels more like an exploration RPG than anything else - there is something about mustering enough courage and getting into a new biome that you know will be creepy and scary, but is irresistible anyway, because the rewards and progression will be worth it.

You're making me want to give it a shot here lol
I mean, you won't be able to progress if you don't craft stuff but at least give it a try to immerse yourself in the world. There is something awesome about stumbling onto a hole in the ground, entering and finding yourself in an elaborate cave system full of ants and other stuff.

I'll never forget that feeling of moving up into the upper yard for the very first time, it felt like fucking Heart of Darkness. We ain't in Kansas anymore...

Rubbish take. Early access and fan feedback helped them significantly improve Grounded 1
Well with that argument then every single game ever should have early access

Personally I don't want to jump into the game that might only be 25% of what it will ultimately end up being. Do people really just keep starting over when they add more stuff or story segments?

Can't comment on all early access games but that wasn't my experience with Grounded when that was in its very long early access window, or at least that's what I recall.
