In a post on X, Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer and technical director for GTA 4, hinted that GTA 6’s PC version might not be released until 2027. Vermeij further suggested that GTA 6 could sell for “10+ years” and face “no competition to worry about.” He also mentioned that Rockstar won’t release the game until they are “100% happy” with it, adding, “No matter what it said in the trailer.”
2027 for you I'm afraid.
In the days of the trilogy, the console sales were so much bigger it was a no brainer. Now it’s a bit less obvious. The advantage of a simultaneous release would be that the publisher only needs to do one marketing campaign. That’s a big expense.A staggered release has the advantage that the team can focus on one release at a time. The pc release is quite different with mouse controls, extra gameplay features and a range of hardware. It also means the testers’ workload is spread out.I would think doing a simultaneous release is also risky. The pc version tends to have a bunch of technical issues because of all the different configurations (memory, processor, gfx card). These issues may give the game a reputation for being buggy. This would probably taint the console version even if that’s clean. For gta5 the gap was 18 months. I’m sure they would love to shorten that for gta6 as it sucks for pc players. On the other hand, the game will sell for a long time, they aren’t going to rush it.
This suggests that while the console version might aim for a 2025 release, there could still be delays, as Rockstar has a history of pushing back release dates for their games. Although there’s no official announcement or release date for the PC version, it’s likely that, based on Rockstar’s previous launches, the PC version might come much later, as seen with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
