GTA: Los Angeles - Stolen Tesla Splits in Half in Fiery Crash

Some guy stole a Tesla around 1am and then proceeded to drive like a maniac. Police gave chase but gave up when they crashed into a barrier. (D'oh!)

The douchebag thief continued to drive like crazy until he got into massive crash where he apparently hit a light pole at around 100mph and split the car in half. He also hit a subcompact car with 5 people in it, critically injuring 1 and 3 others seriously injured The thief was thrown from the car and apparently killed but resuscitated on the way to the hospital and now in critical condition.

The rear end got wedged in a Jewish Synagogue:

The front end was several dozen feet away:

Buy GTA V and play it instead of doing stupid shit like this.

I used to live right around the corner from the last pic. Sad to hear about the bystanders.

Crazy car chases in L.A., another thing that that city has over N.Y..

Tesla can't catch a break with the negative publicity its cars seem to unluckily generate. Shitty that guy caused so much damage.

Yeah, can't believe they have to highlight the batteries sparking and bursting into flames in a crash like this. Gasoline would be pouring all over and would have ignited as well in this situation.

Reminds me of the guy driving that Ford Fairlane in the original Gone in Sixty Seconds movie(not the shitty Nick Cage remake).

I think everybody can see what a tremendous crash it was.

Sure, the car caught fire, but I'd like to see what could have happened to any other vehicle. And from the looks of it it's not like it went off or anything like that.

It takes some massive fucking effort to cause that kind of damage to a Model S. That moron went all in.

Same thought. A crash that violent would have ruptured the fuel lines and probably the fuel tank, spreading it all over the place. Chances are shit could have gone a lot worse. Battery fires are incredibly energetic, but at least they are very localized.

Their cars are rock-solid, but every instance of bad news will be instantly publicized. Car is too popular and lobbyist from traditional car companies will have a field day with this latest horrific crash.

I thought Teslas won't start by any means unless the original key is in it (unless he stole the key). And doesn't it have a GPS tracking system that will even alert your phone if the car is moving without you?

Thieves steal keys nowadays because it is much easier.

Are people (not here, mind you) seriously making a big deal over the batteries catching fire? This guy hit a light pole at 100 mph, cutting the fucking car in half (in half!) and people are trying to make the batteries the big sticking point?

120 years of gasoline power car accidents has made it commonplace. A 10 year old, newfangled, battery powered car maker that threatens the establishment, will cause these stories to be news with a specific slant.

Yea sad but true.

Everyone should read the oatmeals take on the Tesla
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla_model_s

A Tesla is 5 times less likely to catch on fire than a conventional car. Its also got the highest crash rating of any car and the highest consumer reports customer satisfaction of any car ever.

But yea, what will come out of this will be TESLSA MODEL S CATCHS ON FIRE.... *in super small print* after crashing at 100 miles an hour and cutting the car in half

and yet Tesla did have an issue with their batteries being not protected enough, so they are actually adding thicker layer titanium for protection down there:

As to CR satisfaction, obviously people who buy Tesla's right now are evangelists and love the brand and everything it stands for... I would say that Tesla's right now are below average in reliability but that does not matter anyway, they are really great cars.

Oh I remember you, you're the guy that works in the automotive industry in Europe and never responded to my post in one of the other Tesla threads.

Also they added more protective layer around the battery because idiots were improperly charging their car and setting the battery on fire, of which Tesla covers under warranty, even for improper charging.
