I liked it but thought the first was better. I felt this one joked around a bit to often. Some of the stuff just went on for too long like Groot getting the wrong stuff or the whole taser face thing. The whole thing with Peter's dad was also really odd. I still think it was a good flick though.
 
Since they put in the watchers, how likely is it that they'll replace Nick Fury's eye and make him the new watcher of Earth?

Unlikely. They did this to take White Nick Fury out of the game and make more space for Black Nick Fury. Wont happen anytime soon in the movies.

I don't think Ego is capable of "love" in the way we understand it. Meredith - any mortal, really - is so far beneath him that they barely register. Not even pet status, frankly. He loved Peter's mom in the same way I love, like, a sandwich, or a TV show.

And he threw her away when she was too much of a distraction. Like quitting a video game when it starts eating up too much of your time. Feels bad, but it has to be done.

He may have been starting to develop actual feelings of love which he may have been capable of if he stayed with her. But yeah he killed her and didn't think anything of it because mortal life and love as a concept is totally beneath him - he recognized that he was starting to feel something but pretty much shut it down as soon as he could.

Ego's motivation is great because he is essentially a force of nature that can't be reasoned with, and yet he is able to mimic the traits of humans that are used to bond with one another. Meredith truly believed they were in love and Peter truly began to feel like he had his father in his life - Ego was convincingly genuine in the catch scene. He appears to be conflicted but in reality he is driven purely by his desire to expand.

I definitely prefer a villain like this to the one-dimensional version of Ronan they used in the first movie. And when you throw in everything the Ravagers have going on in this movie, plus the Sovereigns, I think GOTG Vol. 2 has the best villains in a marvel movie yet. I absolutely love how much of a threat the Sovereigns could be to the universe, but throughout this movie they're 100% only after our heroes to punish them for being shitheads lol

Yondu wouldn't have been killed off
had he not been so overpowered, dude was a walking deus ex machina. I hope by some miracle he makes it back in future installments, heck I'll even accept a cameo.

Yeah, the villains were top notch here.

Can't wait to see more of her, too - wish I had the Blu Ray already so I can screen cap the end where she's disheveled and looking at Adam's cocoon.

I'm glad that both were cut, especially if the soup bit was only a drawn out gag about nosily eating soup, but while watching the film, I was kind of hoping more of the soup bit was in. It could have been funny in the context of a scene if it was more than just about him slurping, but the gardens of the galaxy just doesn't seem like it would have worked all that well.

Edit: Okay, I take back the part about a drawn out gag about soup. This is hilarious.

3D is darker and loses a lot of the vibrancy. It's due to the 3D conversion.

I saw both. 2D is a lot better on this one. The 3D conversion was shit.

The core plot is far, far stronger, and actually ties into the personal story. And Gamora fares so much better in this movie.
 
I'm starting to come around on the 2nd one being better than the 1st now too

Also goddamnit how come Quill lasted way longer out in space than Yondu did

The more I think about the film, the more I like it. I also really like when movies kick me in the balls and make me cry, which the second did a lot better than the first.
 
This movie is unequivocally better than the first. The first movie isn't bad but there's just so much time spent on the setup like most origin movies. And MCU Ronan fucking sucks, whereas this movie has some of the best MCU villains yet.
 
Just came back from seeing it. Really cool movie. Only thing that threw me off was young Kurt Russell. Seeing Kurt Russell in 80's movies made it seem a bit weird.

Pretty much. I thought the first was pretty mediocre and unfunny. The sequel upgrade was Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 tier
 
I saw it again with my fiance last night. After watching both movies twice in 4 days, VOL 2 is definitely my favorite out of all the MCU movies.
 
This was a movie of highs and lows for me. The highs were very high. The lows were very low. I found the first movie to be more consistent. However, if I had to pick one, I would probably choose vol. 2 over the original. The humor in vol. 2 almost never worked for me. It wasn't as smart as the first. It was very juvenile at times. I feel like James Gunn went just a little too far. The first 30-40 minutes or so was kind of hard to sit through. I felt like I was just watching the Guardians do things. There was no story being told yet. The things the film did well however, topped the things the first one did well for me. Once Ego was introduced the film picked up significantly and finished very strong. The parts that work the best is when everything slows down and we get to flesh out the characters. The theme of family is very strong. Everyone in the film has a significant connection to each other. Ego is a good villain made great by Kurt Russells performance. The introduction of the Celestials, The Watchers, potentially Eternity, and the tease of Adam Warlock was pretty awesome. I hope they all play a part in Infinity War and whatever they call the sequel. Even though I found the humor to be mostly bad, the strength of the villain, the main characters development, and the theme running through the film carried it just past the first for me. Sorry for the unorganized post. Just a jumble of my thoughts.
