Is the right way to craft food? I started a elementalist and gained 2 levels last night crafting lol only level 12 but still
Haha. Do everything! Explore, do your crafting professions, do your personal story, play (actually play :p) some WvW, help friends with their hearts, gather ALL THE THINGS, and sure, what the hell, escort some Dolyaks.
Nah, we determine the right way we play
I wasn't really being serious. If you want to powerlevel in a game designed around doing the opposite then more power to you. The world's folk can't all be the same.
Is there any like move for Warriors? What classes have this as I might play a class that has this move just for WvW. I'm sure Scorpion is already taken as a name too ... but a Guardian named Scorpion with all Yellow and Black dye would be pretty sick.
It's a thief utility skill (god I love thieves). I don't know if other classes have similar moves but it's possible.

Yeah I haven't tried WvW with my warrior yet. I've heard that rifle does crazy single target damage though. Warriors are probably better in the heart of the mist stuff than in WvW.

Warriors are great in WvW! You're level 15 and you haven't even unlocked some of your crazy banner elite skill yet. Warrior is great especially with all their finishers and ability to jump around and do a lot of damage. Longbow is great for aoe in WvW while Rifle is better for single target.

Moody what is your fascination with dolyaks.

That's good to hear. I just assumed that they'd get blown up from being melee-based with no real getaway skills.

That's when you go find one of the other zones for that level range, or go crafting. If you stick to a straight path in this game, it kinda punishes you.

That's not the point at all. It's ArenaNet foolishly punishing the entire playbase of the game due to the actions of a very few. It really breaks the flow of the game when you're in a group of 20 and every few events a bunch have to take breaks for 10 mins in order to be able to gain experience from events again. I don't like the idea that ArenaNet is now directing us away from their stated goal of getting people to play together by forcing us to engage in other aspects of the game.

But at the distances my Bow wasn't hitting anything really. I was getting hammered while my shots were all "obstructed" or "out of range".

I haven't unlocked some of the best abilities that's why I'm biting my tongue right now (kinda, lol) so I will give it time. Either way the game is a blast so I'm not really worried about it right now. If I'm not good at one thing I'll be good at another. I'm just having flashbacks of Warrior in Warhammer during keep sieges and they were absolutely worthless, like no point in even being there until you had to do PVE shit once the gate was down.

They could lower the exp from event completion but take away the dr. I have yet to have dr and I do a lot of events but it is an option

I think you're misinterpreting the effects wildly, especially if a 10 minute break is all it takes to reset the diminishing returns. You shouldn't be doing the same DEs over and over again whether you're in a group or not. If you do it by yourself and then with a group within 10 minutes, you'll still get a reward. If you do it more than twice within 10 minutes with or without a group you really shouldn't be expecting much.

Unless one of us is misinterpreting something:
-Are the diminishing returns on ALL events within a 10 minute frame, not just doing the same ones over and over? If so that is a terrible idea and essentially gamebreaking.
-If it is only limited to repeating events as I interpreted it, how is that breaking the flow of the game, and why would you take breaks?

Actually, does anybody have a source for the diminishing returns info? I can't find it anywhere.

For the moment Guild Invites are simply still bugged.

However, did you sign up on the sign-up thread on gafguild.com?

People who signed up in the thread are still being given first dibs when invites are functioning properly. If you have not signed up, you will need to sit tight until we work through the list.

Lotsa people wanna play!

If I signed up in the signup thread on this site a while back and I am on the list, should I still signup on that forum?

Is there a good resource for combos?

I assume ele can do some fun stuff.

Btw I can't seem to find a good single target dps system working for ele Mage.

What are y'all doing?

Also does 'size' matter?

Like of you roll the big guys do they have larger reach with a 2h sword than say a human?

After playing Charr Engie for a few days, I've decided my secondary character will be an Asura Necromancer. I really like the look; I hope it's fun to play!

Can't scour the net cause I'm at work but I would love to see the exact info on the diminishing effects on events. If it does reset every 10 minutes then this shouldn't affect the average player or even the non-exploiting power-leveler. Pretty sure the average event doesn't even spawn in less than 10 minutes.

How do I access my Hall of Monuments?

Assuming your account is linked you should recieve a blue circular stone in your inventory upon character creation. It was a bit bugged though, as only 2 out of my 3 characters had the stone.

If you did not get the stone, you can acquire it from certain vendors. The only vendor I know for sure who has it is located in the Undermarket at Hooligan's Route in Lion's Arch. The vendor has a seperate tab which sells the stone for $0.

Click on the stone and you will be ported to the Hall of Monuments. Talk to Kimmes in the scrying pool area of the Hall to recieve the cosmetics.

I havent taken a ranger there yet, but I assume you just charm the pets that are roaming around the hall.

I unfortunately don't have a source and I don't actually understand how it works exactly, so everything I say can essentially be treated as circumstantial and/or hearsay.

As I said I have been levelling essentially the entire way with a big group of anywhere between 12-30 at all times. We are all on TS3 so we all are communicating very well on event co-ordination and the like. This only started occurring in Dredgehaunt Cliffs as of a few hours ago. With such a big group we get people joining and taking breaks every so often. In the zone we were in we basically cycled between these events as they spawned and not necessarily in this order.

- Town Imp
- Cave Imp
- Engineer Escort
- Barracuda
- Edmund Escort
- Any other combination of escort/defend that we see pop up
- Graupel Waypoint duo
- Sniper

We noticed that when we did a quick succession of these events we started to get diminishing returns on the events. Because of the nature of the zones and because you can teleport around so quickly you can essentially chain event off event very quickly, which is what we were doing as it was the optimal way to level up and hell, we were having a good amount of fun. We got drastic reductions in XP for completion down to mere hundreds of XP when we were getting anywhere between 2.5k-3.2k normally. The people who experienced this noticed that it was ok again after a short break in town or if they went and did something else for 10 minutes. I’m not sure if this is new or just something that we experienced in this zone due to the fact that events occur and are over so quickly. (It’s literally a race on Henge when sniper gets called to get to it in time for a medal, he usually dies within 30s).

And to answer your question, if we were receiving reduced XP, it didn’t matter which event we did. We aren’t repeating the same event over and over but simply cycling through them as they come up.

I don't know why people are grinding anything in this game to get to max level asap. The areas are great and the down level mechanic makes playing other zones a breeze. Enjoy the content not walking stinky cows around.

So it sounds like the fix would be to make the 10-minute reset interval per event, not for stopping events entirely. Surely you weren't redoing the first event in that list again after only 10 minutes.

I'm kinda bored soloing (EU), until they get the guild invite fixed if someone wants to group please whisper me at oddo.4286.
How does grouping work with the overflow?

Well the Wiki is the best resource I know of for that, but I think it might still be down. Barring that, Hawkian has basically laid out the whole system in his posts above.

Elementalist can indeed do some fun stuff with combos, but less so solo. You can definitely do some solo combos, but you are much less limited when you have another person to finish your combos.

Btw I can't seem to find a good single target dps system working for ele Mage.

Not sure about this. Elementalist seems to focus more on AOE damage, but they also have a number of single target abilities. In general it does well to find a mix between AOE and single target damage, but I haven't determined the optimal setup for taking out high health single targets where AOE damage provides no benefit.

Also does 'size' matter?

Like of you roll the big guys do they have larger reach with a 2h sword than say a human?

Size and race have no impact on gameplay outside of a few racial skills, that are generally not that powerful.

Thanks, I'll check Lion's Arch. My titles were there, but the item was bugged I suppose.

Really enjoying the game so far. The Asura infinity ball personal story is pretty good so far. Haven't had too much of a chance to dive in depth yet, have only really had an hour or two at a time here and there.

No cool armors or dyes to show off. :(

The Lion's Arch jumping puzzle is easily the best thing that I have come across so far. So awesome.

Depending, as I said we were just doing them as they popped and we have a sufficiently large and well co-ordinated group of what I would like to think of as pretty skilled players that we were able to finish most of these events rather quickly. Sometimes the same event would pop twice within that window. All I can say is that we experienced reduced XP for completing the events. We're now doing Timerline Falls and as of yet, have not experienced DR on events, but we are largely just exploring and finding where the events are.

Edit: The cost of teleporting to waypoints at level 52 is now over 1s. It's enough to make me cry. :'(

Hmmm. I'm sort of torn but based on the huge XP boost you get for doing events in a big group rather than alone, the fact that it does reset if you wait for 10 minutes, and the fact that you guys were essentially grinding them 3+ times apiece, I don't know if I object to DR in that situation.

Your last line, about how you've just been exploring a new area, finding where the events area, and haven't experienced any DR yet, that strikes me as the design working as intended :p

Whoa. Maybe I should quit exchanging gold for gems.

Help! Still trying to decide on my final alt. Guardian or Mesmar? I didn't really like the exploding clones gameplay.

Also, how does Greatsword compare on Warrior, Guardian, and Mesmar? Should I even bother with Warrior if I was only planning on using Greatsword?

Scorpion Wire. Maybe I should reequip that when I head into WvW...

I thought about trying this out but it seemed counter-intuitive to what a thief should be doing. Why would I want to pull an enemy toward me? I can think or more than a few ways that this could be useful now though. I might have to play with it a bit.

Well we aren't doing them at the same rate at the moment. Like I said this all from the information we've gathered as a guild. Some of it may be incorrect. This is not something we're going to try to devote a lot of time testing as we just want to move along. :)

Is there a trick to leveling weapon/armor smithing faster? Should I just make hilts or something? Vials seem like they're hard to come by, but copper is plentiful.

Tell me more...

All I knew of was the ghost one.

The second one is just a slightly tedious jumping puzzle reminiscent of a SWTOR datacron. It doesn't have any lore or puzzle components associated with it really.

It would be much faster if the AH was working. As it stands now, you'd have to farm the rare ingredients needed to make the decent recipes. The best bet if you have enough of those is to just constantly discover "new" weapons which are the same modifier applied to different weapon types over and over to get big bonus XP. The alternative is to level cooking, which I leveled up over 100 in about 10 minutes of buying ingredients from the vendor.

so would people recommend this game to an old school wow player? found every expansion after tbc to be horrible, and i have not found a mmo worth playing after that..

every mmo after wow-tbc just seems to try to catch people with eye candy, girls in skimpy clothes and bubble gum. i just want an mmo with real art design, not just pretty girls. and a good pve and pvp system. a big part that made me quit wow was that i felt blizzard just turned lazy, rehearsing old instances and never really came with something new or something to work and look forward to. the pvp system in wow was dead for me when they started with arena.

this game seems pretty interesting tho.. might just get it to morrow. but if there would be any old wow players here, how would this compare?

Guild Wars 2 has lots of pretty girls, and an arena, but I think you would like it.

There's definitely a lot of uses, especially in WvW. The obvious one is pulling people off of walls (this still works right?). Also, when you have two groups of enemies engaging each other at range (and everyone pulls back when they get low on health), you can use it to punish anyone who dares move into range by pulling him even closer, so your whole group can focus him down. If a teammate follows this up with an immobilize or stun, there's almost no escaping. You can also use it to interrupt people who are using channeled abilities (such as whirl attacks that block projectiles), or to pull people off siege weapons. If someone is trying to kite you, scorpion wire will have something to say about that.

In general, it catches people off guard, and moves them to a slightly less favorable position. You do have to be careful with it though, because as you have already said pulling a dangerous foe closer to you can be really dumb at times for a squishy thief. The trick is learning the right timing (and positioning) for using it.

I played WoW for all of 10 minutes.. but if you appreciate the mertis of art design Guild Wars 2 will reward you constantly. There are two totally different kinds of PvP; both are available as soon as you complete the tutorial.
