A couple thoughts:

Just recently found that the Mesmer "Warden" Phantasm (5th skill with a focus off-hand) TOTALLY DOES trigger in combo fields - I have no idea why I had never thought of this before. Confusion bolts for everyone!

Great to know :)

Gonna try some Sword+Focus/Staff action later today.

So, how did you guys manage to link your headstart accounts with your retail serial keys? I seemed to have no luck doing it as, 1) it told me that my password was invalid when I tried to enter my old account info in the space that asks if I already had a GW account, 2) the reset password function isn't working, and 3) creating a "new account" means I can't access my old characters.

Hopefully, customer support can sort this mess out...
Since customer support hasn't responded after 2 days, anyone know what I could have done wrong? :p

What did you exactly do to set up your retail key?

The idea is that you go to register.guildwars2.com, put in your retail key, and say "yes I have an account", and put in the information you have been using since headstart.

Assuming you did that, it said your password was incorrect? That doesn't sound right. I just went to the register page, put the key in, put in my account info, chose a new display name, and was done in 5 minutes.

Have you tried logging into the Guild Wars 2 account site with your headstart acct info? Were you able to? If not, there's the possibility that your account has been compromised.

I also find it pretty weird that nobody ever talks in sPvP. I'm like the only one communicating. Anet also needs to give us more time to make a play at the start of a game. Less than 5s isnt enough for me to tell them the plan :/

the standard sPvP just seems like a testing ground for abilities and builds
cant even get on the same team as your friends half the time
if you're talking about tournament mode then I dont follow, as even when I dont queue with friends people discuss the plan at the start, and you have a few minutes not 5 seconds

When I tried to log-in using the client, I got the error associated with needing to addend the serial key to the account, so I assumed that the password was still working. When I tried to link my GW2 account to my new key, it told me my password was invalid (with no way to reset since that page is down). Strangely, it still allowed me to make another account with the same account name/e-mail.

While I got the e-mails about lost password requests or whatever, I doubt my account was compromised.

There's no way my headstart account could have been lost, though, so I should get my characters back in due time... If not, well, there goes my interest in the game lol.

Some time, you and I should run SE. I'm sure I can pull together some gaffers that know what they're doing.

I'm taking a break from my Guardian after 70+ straight hours of her lol. Started an engineer. What level are you? Maybe I can catch up to you in time for SE.

Maybe I'll pick her up again if gear ever gets cheaper.

Comments on the Guardian pls. Can you tell me how the playstyle is like, etc.?

Thetrin might know better than me since I can't compare to the Warrior as I've never played one.

Depends on your playstyle and weapon, but a bit revolves around symbols, shouts, virtues, and maybe consecrations. Shouts give boons (buffs) to your allies and can be traited for additional effects. Consecration is AoE buffs or protection. Symbols are small fields put down by the player that can give you boons, damage enemies, or heal if traited. Virtue is your special class ability that gives you passive buff and can be activated to give an AoE buff. You have 3 (heal, Aegis, burn).

Greatsword plays kind of like... you jump in to a mob, [5] to pull everything in, [3] to Spin to Win and kill everything and repeat. [2] is a symbol for retaliation to reflect some damage back to enemies. It's pretty fun for taking out mobs of AoE, and the heavy armor + retaliation symbol helps survive after you pull everything in.

I really liked the Sword and Focus build I was using last night, which revolves around traiting so that Virtue of Justice becomes a burn and blinding skill that resets on enemy kill. You can also teleport around because your [2] skill is a short cooldown teleport to an enemy and blind. Outside of dungeons, it's pretty easy to take out enemies by continually blinding or blocking with focus [5].

As someone who's played the guard heavily in both spvp and pve I've noticed a few things.

Pretty good support though shouts and bubbles

Lacks any real range options

Can't spec into conditions

Damage is slightly lower compared to the warrior

One of the best elite skills in the game

Unable to spec tank due to low hp tier

Did some sPvP last night with a group of 5 of us. We got STOOOOOMPED, but it was still a pretty good time. I'm trying to decide how important group comp is there vs PvE. We were running Necro, Ranger, 2 x Thief, and Engi, and I felt like groups with a Guardian and/or Mesmer would absolutely rock us.

I've seen a few retail copies lying around locally. Is it really out of stock near you?

Same here. Target by me has a bunch available (didn't see any collector's though) but the local GameStop had collector's in stock (at least I saw one behind the counter.)

Maybe, but after this happened today in SE where I had no real options but try to break LoS and hit 1 with staff over and over because I have no real ranged options I don't know. Stuff just seems to hit way too hard and I had at least 2 pieces of L80 exotic gear at the time.

I know I'm kind of late in the discussion but packing a Staff is the best thing you can do in dungeons really if you're melee. Of course you can have other options, but I think the might stack buff with the heal at the end is pretty crucial, and the Swiftness field helps people get away from fire, etc. It's easy to switch out, jump in with the greatsword, deal some damage, back out if they're being thorny, and support some more. I had to do this on a couple of fights in Flame Citadel. You just have to be willing to switch up, really.

Just saw this picture posted on reddit, apparently an event with centaur bugged out and sent all 7 waves at once.

Looks fun <_<

Reminds me of the room in CM explore where you have to fight buckets of bandits all at once (which we couldn't clear...).

Still looks pretty awesome, haha.

And someone said that the event actually scales with the number of players, to the point when the centaurs are clipping/invisible. Fun!

Here you can find the whole thread. First few comments are gold btw.
And the comment I'm referring to:
I had that problem- decided if we could actually win. So I called in some guildmates.

Turns out - those 7 waves scale. A lot. Dramatically. So much to the point where centaurs were clipping out and becoming invisible, and that was the end of that. Good thing we were all able to turn into moa's though.

Finally got a chance to start playing. Norn Mesmer is a lot of fun so far (lol lvl 4). Much more fun than the beta time.

The reward system from sPvP is absolutely retarded. It rewards kills and recapping way too much and defenders get jack all so people just run around zerging.
What's funny is that one team can have astronomically higher individual scores than the other team, but STILL lose the match because of how inaccurate the scoring system is when it comes to gauging actual performance that contributes to the team. And they'll STILL make more glory and rank points than the losing team because the win bonus just isn't that big (though this is something I'm grateful for - I don't like being penalized massively for being on the losing side).

Will this be done for real, I'm interested since it becomes a bit confusing with the multiple-server guild as it is right now.

Well I hope so, just switched back from AG to Gang.
I don't want to leader it, but I've seen enough mentions around this thread that people want a EU guild (Again there was also the assumption that there will be one made during launch, considering the OP list).

I think right now we need to see the interest. I almost suggest we quote and add our names to a list for now. If we can get enough people interested, I'm sure we can do establish it.

state of the game

Account Security
Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts. To protect yourself, use a strong, unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you've never used anywhere else!
Customer Support
Our customer support team is prioritizing hacked accounts and other blocking login issues over other types of support requests.
Hacked accounts - If you submit a support ticket for a hacked account, ensure it is properly prioritized by following these instructions. We're resolving prioritized hacked account tickets within 72 hours. If you have an older hacked account ticket that has not been resolved, it may not be properly prioritized, or the ticket may not contain enough information for us to address it quickly. Please update your existing ticket, clearly state that this is a hacked account ticket, and provide as much information as possible, including your account email address, your account display name or character names, and your 25-digit Guild Wars 2 serial code.
Email authentication - We will soon provide a secure method on our web site for customers who are having trouble with email authentication to disable it for their accounts. We ask that you use this new self-help system, and only submit a support ticket if that doesn't work for you.
Password resets - We will soon provide a secure method on our web site for customers who have lost their passwords or whose passwords aren't working to reset their passwords. We ask that you use this new self-help system, and only submit a support ticket if that doesn't work for you.
Support forums - The official support forums are now online, and we have a new forum for players helping other players.
Trading Post
The Trading Post is now available to all players. Items and gold deliveries that have been delayed should arrive soon. Please check your "pick up" tab.
Parties & Guilds
We're working on capacity constraints causing issues with parties and guild functionality, including symptoms such as party members not appearing on the map, parties not staying together as they travel between maps or into dungeons, and guild manipulation not working. We deployed fixes in last night's update and will deploy additional fixes in tonight's update.
Note that guild upgrades and guild influence are world-specific. If you move your account to a new world, you'll see the upgrades and influence that your guild has on that new world, not the upgrades and influence you previously saw on the old world.
PvP Tournament rewards
We're still working on the issue with missing PvP tournament rewards.
World v. World event rewards
Event rewards for Dolyak caravan escort events in World v. World will be disabled until further notice.
Storyline steps
In tonight's software update we will fix issues with the storyline steps "Fury of the Dead", "Grisly Shipment", and "In The Ruins".
Downed mode camera
In tonight's software update we will improve the downed mode camera to maintain a more consistent distance taking race into account.
Reporting exploits
If you discover an emergency game-breaking or economy-breaking bug, do not exploit it, but please notify us immediately at this email address: exploits (at) arena (dot) net. You may also use this email address to report suspected security vulnerabilities. Thank you to everyone who has sent reports. However, note that we cannot respond individually to emails to this address.
Worlds & Overflow
We're increasing world capacity as necessary to handle all the new players coming into the game.
During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while most characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow servers. To play with a friend on a different overflow server, form a party together, then right-click on the friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". We expect the use of overflow servers to naturally subside as players spread out more through the world.
Next software updates
We'll perform a significant update tonight at midnight Seattle time, during which the game will be unavailable for approximately one hour.
We'll perform maintenance on the Guild Wars 2 wiki tomorrow night, during which time the wiki will be unavailable for approximately one hour.

last time I played WvW there were no 'rewards' for escorting the supplies to the bases ... has this been fixed?

edit: thanks for posting that 'State of the Game' ... my question was answered in there lol

any clues as to when Digital sales will be enabled again?

would like to get from greenman for 25% off, and I can play dark souls in the meantime...

Wow the story missions are getting tough. I just did the Battle of Claw Island and it was a doozy. I also scrounged up enough money and spent all my money minus ten silver on the level 40 trait book. I kind of regret it since it took me all game to earn that much, but I know it will be worth it down the line.

What's a good area to explore for a level 50 character. I already did the major events in Bloodtide Coast and want to go somewhere else.

Well, I'm bored. :(

About every 10 levels (I'm "stuck" (mentally) at 70 right now), I get exponentially more bored. All the "groundbreaking" and "unique" features of the game are just simplified or streamlined versions of what we get in your average MMO. If anything it's dumbed down.

Honestly, I could see this coming from a couple beta weekends, but I'm sad I wasn't even able to max level a character before it happened.

At this point I'm only logging on to play alongside friends. Alone, it's terribly mind-numbing using the same exact skills that I've been using since I was low level.

So what do you guys think about this game? I plan on buying it today but am afraid it'll die like other MMO's that aren't WoW. Do you see it being a barren wasteland a month after?

Same sentiments

I'm picking it up tonight as well because I feel like it's an easily approachable game nonetheless.

Are there any classes with an outstanding/overwhelming number of players?

It won't be. Mainly because there isn't a subscription. People can leave and come back without having to worry about subscription fees. There's nothing to start up again, you just launch the game and continue on.

Plus, the game is amazing so it has that going for it too.
