I'll check in again at a later date to compare, but I have to ask:
Do people feel this game has longevity?
Game's strengths? Weaknesses? (Flaws that could be fixed?)
Do you see yourself playing 3 months from now? A year? More than a year?
I'd especially like insight from people who have played other MMOs compared to those that haven't.
My MMO experience comes from a small bit of vanilla WoW, and a ton of Guild Wars Prophesies, so I'm not really an MMO veteran in any sense. That said, I feel like this game is delivering on the things that I disliked in the MMO genre, while still keeping the things I enjoyed from it as well.
I think it does have longevity, two weeks in and I still feel addicted to it. I'm almost at 80 and still have a ton of things to do. I want to dive deeper into PvP, finish the main story (which feels endless btw), get better gear, and play more WvW. The dungeons are incredibly challenging, so its a good feeling to know that I can only get better at them. Then there's new characters with different story paths, starting areas, classes, etc.
I do agree that the game suffers from a lack of direction at times, but once you get out and going you start to get back into the flow of things. Once I leave a town I usually get caught up in a bunch of dynamic events, heart quests, etc. My biggest complaint so far is that while the dungeons are challenging, there's a lack of communication on what strategy/role to fill. While I do find them getting easier as I level up, tweak my build, and learn the encounters, they can feel a bit cheap and unfair at times. I did CM explorable's Asura path the other day and it seemed totally ridiculous. There were so many ranged enemies crammed into corridors that it seemed totally impossible to pass it without dying. It led to a feeling of bashing my head against a wall until we finally got through, which is just tedious.
Yes I do see myself playing in 3 months forsure. I do expect to take short breaks during the big release season, but the good thing is that we don't have to worry about monthly fees. A year from now the game will probably be very different. If the GW1 release schedule is anything to follow, it won't be long before we see the first major content release.
