I've read that if you delete all you characters you can choose a new home server for free, does it still work?

We are on Stormbluff Isle if you want to join us.

With the prerelease of GW2 in china, should we expect some new on LS2 next week? When do you guys think it would be the best time for then to start talking about it.

I'll go with Wooden Potatoes prediction here, and I'll say that the living story will start with Dragon Bash.

It is said that everyone in Tyria heard the roar of a [dragon], I think that Dragon bash is a nice way to get the soldiers pumped and ready for the upcoming battle.

We know that Belinda(sp?) Delaqua is gone to Brisban to investigate, so If Dragon bash is a full month, mid month we see Belinda interrupting the festivities of us and the B-Team to tell us something is wrong over in Brisban and that we should come with her.

The western part of Brisban will have changed, dragon corruption is leaking over into brisban, we investigate what we can, until the Pact arrives so we can start pushing in in the upcoming months.

Why June? because June is Dragon Bash month. WvW Spring Tournament is ending at the end of May (Spring Tournament was actually 7 weeks and they added 2 more weeks before it started).

This will give China a month to complete their personal story, and get used to the game before the next Living story starts

That makes sense but I wonder how early they want to start talking about Dragon Bash coming back...wait till just before it releases? A week before?

I want them to start talking about it soon but I doubt we will hear anything till end of May.

The Cryptarch's Bane
Yesterday went pretty well. We did the new Tequatl which was indeed harder than I remember (more to do than just standing in one spot until he died). Thanks to Zeroth for the invite.

At this point I'm wondering if I should spend some time on getting my Thief up to par since I can't come up with any decent builds for my Ranger.
You should caaaause thieves are the best class :D
I really like that you don't need to head back to a city and pay to have your traits refunded, which means you can experiment as much as you want and on the fly.
That's new as of April 15th, btw. That patch had a whole bunch of QoL changes.
I'm also looking towards things other than just getting cool armor. At first I tried to focus on doing so only to get bummed out when I noticed that there are hardly any groups in the Group Finder to do dungeons in the first place. It's probably better for my interest in the game to focus on other things like that.
I see this misconception so often that I really think it would be worth tweaking the LFG tool to depict the total number of ongoing LFG runs visually somehow.

When a party fills up in the LFG tool, that listing is immediately removed from the finder. This happens so quickly and frequently that it appears as though there are only 2 or 3 groups up per dungeon at a time. Try posting the listing yourself- unless it's one of the more obscure paths in the game, you can literally expect a full group in a minute or two. Making your own also lets you control the comment, which can make a big difference in the kind of PUGs you get.

Like making money maybe. That's one thing I never got the hang of in this game (or any MMO for that matter). What do you need to do exactly to make a decent amount of cash in this game? I have Leatherworking at 411 (or something like that) so if anyone knows of some cheap ingredients I can buy to then produce something that sells for a profit than that would be great (I assume that's the way to make money off of crafting?).
Leatherworking isn't such a profiftable craft for selling so far as I know, but since you're over 400 already you're almost to the point where you can make the once-a-day Ascended materials. These are:
  • Lump of Mithrillium
  • Glob of Elder Spirit Residue
  • Spool of Thick Elonian Cord
  • Spool of Silk Weaving Thread
Because players can only craft one of each once per day, these will always have value on the TP and can be sold for profit regularly unless you're saving for Ascended gear (not recommended yet if you're concerned with money).

Outside of that, good sources of regular income are dungeons, the world boss/daily rares, PvP, and merely gathering and selling valuable mats (http://gw2spidy.com is a great site for seeing what stuff is selling for).

A daily bout of quick dungeons is easy to get into and the guild does them frequently. If you learn CoF1, CoF2 and SE1, that's nearly 4 gold in barely over a half hour. Add in SE3 and AC paths, and you can be swimming in profit for the evening. Note that the big gold and token bonus for dungeons is a daily reward, so repeating the same path is not really profitable. You can also buy rares (or exotics from the lower level dungeons) and salvage them for Ectoplasm for even more silvers.

If they keep the same scheduling,
this week was suppose to be patch week
So this leaves us with
Code:
May 6th - Usual patch Preview
May 13th - Patch Day
May 20th - Usual Patch Preview
May 27th - Patch Day
May 30th - WvW spring tournament Ends
June 3rd - Usual Patch Preview
June 10th - Patch Day

Last year Dragon Bash was June 11th.

Which would make June 10th the proper candidate for it this year, and event the "Usual Patch Preview" Falls after the end of the spring tournament.

So I'll call it now, June 10th will be dragon Bash and the start of the Season 2.

If we're lucky, we'll get SAB on the 13th of this month :p

I think many of you are forgetting that LA doesn't exist anymore so they're going to have to move all the DB assets to another city which takes time. I mean it's all very well possible they already planned this full well knowing they'd destroy LA in 2014, but who knows. I'm not really expecting any updates in May due to China and June will likely kick off season 2.

Ranger is lots of fun; don't give up. Build ideas:

- If we're talking maximum dungeon efficiency, then get to know main hand sword, Spotter, and Frost Spirit.
- Have you tried spirit builds? They are particularly potent in sPvP and caused me to fall in love with ranger again.
- What about trap builds? I enjoy these; they even have some utility in WvW.
- Beastmasters aren't in a good place right now, but maybe someday they will rise again...

Huh, just did Monthly in 2 days. Those are salvaging, champion kills, group events, and skill points. Dungeon-running and maybe some EotM helped a lot.

Probably the most common way to make fast gold is run lots of dungeons:
CoF1 and 2
AC 1, 2, 3
TA up and ff
SE 1 and 3
HoTW 1

For example, I have no trouble finding PUG groups for CoF1, AC1&3, SE1 and TA up paths, which I have ran twice in the past week. 5 dungeons in 90 minutes, 8-9 gold. But try to run with guildies, as a PUG with an attitude can really put a damper on a run.

Yup. CoF 1 and 2 are very fast and easy to do. SE 1 and 3 are similarly fast and straightforward. AC paths can get tricky but most of the time they're quick and full of DPS/zerker parties. TA up is quick but ff can slow down on that one path heading to Leurent.

CM 1 and 3 are also fairly common, though they tend to require a thief in the party.

I've been buying and flipping minis this week. Mainly though I buy 4+ of one I don't have and then sell the extras I get to pretty much pay for the one I keep. Most of the rares in the 2-5g range have a minimum 1g difference in buy/sell prices. And the old sets don't see a lot of change in costs for it to be risky. Have had no issues getting orders filled either so far.

This is one of the problems for new and returning players looking to get into the dungeon pve content, every group is doing fast runs, expecting zero mistakes, expecting certain classes or even charging gold for story runs.

Guild Wars 2 is fast becoming one of the least accessible mmo's for new players.

I would agree, BUT...

Make a listing for a dungeon path and state "inexperienced, no stacking" and the like, and you'd be surprised how many people jump at it BECAUSE they don't know how to do the fast runs or don't want to. Pugs can be scary, but I think if enough people just keep listing normal runs, there'll always be room for returning/new players to learn. GAF guild is also a great place to find people to do normal runs with.

Do agree though that the 'fast clear all stack zerk only 5kap' crowd does kind of poison the well somewhat.

Well for wintersday, they said they rebuilt it a couple of weeks before. They didn't just load a version of the map from past wintersday.

Saw this on reddit. I thought it was funny. I think the disney characters might have been more useful in dungeons than Destiny's Edge.

Yep. Did the first dungeon, and all groups show "p3 lvl80 only". Etc etc.

So I just created a group saying " new guy going through story" and had a full group in just a few minutes.

Don't be afraid to create a group and just outline what kind of group it is in the title.

Feel free to ask questions. Everyone is nice.

I see. I didn't know that's how the LFG tool works. I guess I'll try making my own group next time. I'll probably do a combination of dungeons, gathering and crafting if possible.

And I agree that Thieves are the best class. Back when I played a lot of sPvP I would go with my ninja medic build which is probably one of the most annoying builds (for enemies) that I've ever used in an MMO.

Ranger is lots of fun; don't give up. Build ideas:

Is the sword really that great? It always seemed really underwhelming to me. I think I tried the spirits once but I can't remember how well it worked.

I have tried the trapper build before which is pretty good with how many conditions you can stack. I'm going to look into the sword one though because I want to see how you can get good damage out of it.

We never do any of this. And to press the point further, I have made dozens of LFG groups with the simple message "all welcome" (or, if I'm not in the mood for it, "no stacking") and had polite, fun groups the vast majority of the time.
Guild Wars 2 is fast becoming one of the least accessible mmo's for new players.
Pretty patently incorrect. A friendly guild goes a long way. Furthermore the most recent patch made things in lower level dungeons easier for "mixed" groups (composed of new and experienced players).
I see. I didn't know that's how the LFG tool works. I guess I'll try making my own group next time.
Next time make sure to ask for any interested GAF members before going to the LFG. I personally enjoy almost every dungeon.
It somewhat baffles me that the game lacks a proper inspect option, but allows you to see apoints.
Seems like an inspect option would encourage elitism.

Having a lot of fun in spvp with a d/d celestial elementalist lately. I don't know what's happening to me.

I actually suck at the game apparently I'm only good with necros.

Honestly it feels like i'm playing an entirely different game.

I did get frustrated a few times, but then I realized I was the one with room for improvement and it wasn't just the ele's fault.

I think seeing some eles using very similar builds to mine and totally rocking my face off made me realize this.

Trey

It's never the ele's fault, it is the master class.

Guild Wars 2 is fast becoming one of the least accessible mmo's for new players.

Only way this is even kind of true is the relative lack of tooltips and early game direction. Otherwise, GW2 is extremely conciliatory.

For all the new members joining us since last week, you're welcome to attend our weekly Guild Missions tomorrow at 9:00PM eastern time/6:00PM server time! A few missions are in very high-level zones that you'd have to skip out on, but the majority are accessible to just about anyone, especially with an escort. Just show up and pay attention in Guild chat- or hop on our Mumble to listen, even better- and we'll make sure you can participate in everything possible!

That's what I was getting at. You already prohibit looking into their gear, and you can't go by the visual aspect due to transmute, thus segregation occurs based on anet points. Make those invisible to non-guildies and reduce the problem.

Ranger main hand sword is perhaps the most divisive weapon set in the game. Let me start with the major Pros before talking about how to handle the major Con.

PvE Pro #1: Sword #1 has the highest DPS for power builds.
PvE Pro #2: Using sword keeps you on the target so you get the full benefit of boon stacking. Most of the ranger dungeon hate comes from standing at range and pew-pewing, disrupting optimal dungeon stacking.
PvP Pro #1: Mobility. Evades on 2 and 3, plus mobility in 1 when you learn to master it.
PvP Pro #2: Poison, a powerful anti-healing utility condition.

The Con is obvious: most players hate the "rooting" feeling of Sword 1. The common response among us defenders is, " so turn off the auto-attack." This will allow you to dodge or perform other actions in-between strikes of the sword chain.

But this doesn't fully solve the awkwardness of sword; for that you must understand the #1 chain in-depth. The opening strike is a simple melee-range slash. However the next two attacks are mini-leaps that chase your targeted foe. You don't have to use them instantly, and you gain a lot just from taking that extra moment and choosing when to leap. The awkardness of the sword chain is compounded in that all three attacks have a different activation time as well as range. However once you master these attacks, you will come to understand why sword is the ranger's best melee weapon.

As to spirits, let me just give you the PvP short version for now: stone spirit + sun spirit + more spirit procs trait + spirits move trait + condition damage = win.

Let me know if you'd like my treatise on the joys of ranger shortbow. ;)

People will always find a way to segregate themselves. Hiding AP would just mean everyone would have to link their gear (which, at least, you can fake) or some other garbage.

Stormbluff Isle. That'll be your "home server", but the game employs megaservers, which means you'll play with people who play during your hours, your playstyle, etc.

EU guys can guest over to our server if they need be, but EU players have moved to SBI and gotten very little lag.

So I set that as my main but when I play on my own chances are I'll be in a more local server? Sounds good to me. My internet is pretty good anyway so I doubt I'd get much lag.

I'm excited to jump in! My last dip in the MMO landscape was with WoW about 6 years ago, and I played it on a crappy laptop with 4 missing keys, broken hinges and running at 20FPS, I still owned at PvP :D

Is the download client able to pause/resume the download? I don't want to close it without knowing since there isn't any sort of option to do so in-client.

Yes, the launcher keeps a record of where you were, so you can resume later.

its funny, i just realized that the way i play the game, i end up setting my own quests.

like right now, i am set on a quest to find vials of blood, to finish crafting my lv50 rare armor on my elementalist. its going to take a while, but i might be able to get the shit done.

it IS fun because in truth, if i look at how i've been playing the game, i never run out of quests or whatever, because those do not end so quickly, they have me doing exploration, and killing, and in the end i get hours of fun ( at least for me ) and new things. like an almost free rare set. ( lv50 set with the stats i want for less than 7s. )

Fixed that for ya. EU and NA are still separate data centers and guesting between them is still not an option.

All of your characters will be tied to a single server, but you can "Guest" to any server in your region (think of it like a free server transfer). Which doesn't really matter anymore since they added Megaservers last month, where the game will pull people from multiple servers to populate a single zone.
