So, I got a chance to play last night for the first time since the Jubilee started, I didn't even make it out of Crown Plaza, I just hopped in with the zerg that was event/destroyer farming. I got 4 lodestones in a very short timeframe... and TONS of greens/blues, I think it was the most effective farming I've done in this game in ages. But when I was skimming the last few pages I missed I saw some talk of 17g in 3 hours!? Was this from Frostgorge champion zerging? I can't read too in-depth at work, I kinda read this thread in 30 second intervals.

The champion zerg is averaging me about 8.5g/hr(roughly 5g in silver from the chests + greens + rares + exo + mats). It's not bad, but I'm mainly doing it for Crystal Guardian. I think the Plaza farm is still slightly more lucrative, but the chances at getting the uber drops are much lower.

If the post seemed a little too much "look at me" I apologize...in hindsight it seems a little tasteless

Oh bah you're fine. In fact it inspired me to maybe build my own PC next time, for amazing video game action.

I bought a new graphics card tonight. I have some hot footage of Retro and I figuring out how to install it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d4RtvMQp10

OK really it won't be that bad, I did it before after all.

That blog post said:
In Fireheart Rise, I was just meandering along mining all the things when I suddenly got jumped by a Charr engineer with turrets on steroids. It was a crazy fight, involving lots of stray mobs and hiding behind boulders to avoid splash damage and desperately cursing a necromancer’s lack of dodges while trying to prolong one’s life with death shroud, downed, life drain something back to the world of the living, rinse and repeat. (My leveling gear was all power/precision for swift killing, y’know.)

In another corner of the map, some crazy Norn who seemed like a wererat and was like a mini version of Yanonka the Rat Wrangler with all the summoned rats ambushed me too.

I did notice that both of their Dynamic Events were labeled with Modus Sceleris and vaguely recalled a prior instance of encountering a guild group with this title and an elaborate three event chain fight while leveling the warrior alt. (Well, he had no problems with them and had a great time parading proudly in front of their guild as a prime specimen of Charr ferocity.)
Woah, wha. I've never seen a single Modus Sceleris event.

So, crazy theory time, and why the Queen's Pavilion might actually be meta-gaming the farmers

The Queen's Stand
The Aetherblade have reprogrammed the Watchknights to create a private army, which they quickly use to take over almost all of Divinity's Reach. Only the Upper City's gardens and Royal Palace remain in the hands of the Seraph. From this staging ground, the Queen bravely makes her stand, rallying the city guard, the heroic festival-goers and the citizens of Humanity's last refuge to take back their home.

So, why do I think this is possible?

First, the Pavilion itself is identical to Divinity's Reach:
drrqlh0.jpg

In two weeks, the player base is going to know what bosses spawn where and how to fight them. The players are being trained to fight a much larger battle, and to know where they need to go quickly when events pop up. The center of the Pavilion mirrors the Garden and Palace, both of which are 'safe zones'.

The fact that ArenaNet hasn't pulled back the gobs of rewards makes me think they want players to stay down there and learn.

Second, we're consistently hearing "There's too much going on in this small space" and "The fights feel claustrophobic". Maybe because they were designed for a much larger area, like an entire city? Spread out into each of the various sections of the city, the fights and frame rate would drastically improve.

Third, like Humans have been pushed back constantly, and Braham even makes a comment about 'humans being at the end of their rope' and the Jubilee being a show of power. The Jubilee itself is supposed to be all about "the enduring human spirit".. well, here's a real chance to prove it.

I was thinking that the preview for next week even sort of hints at this;
coming-soon21su58.png

There aren't any searchlights in the city currently, and they feel very "World War 2"-ish, like they're scanning the sky for Aetherblade Airships on the prowl, and the Balloons which were once for ferrying delegates are now for ferrying troops in and civilians out.

Basically, I'm envisioning a block-by-block, street-by-street fight to recapture the city, with escort quests (help citizens get to balloons), Aetherblade and Watchknights pushing into regions and being pushed back out by players, bosses spawn, etc. Almost like the Turf Wars in GTA: San Andreas or Saint's Row... or even a mini PVE WvW.

It benefits the farmers as well; the more of the city they control, the less ground they have to cover to farm.

Obviously a crazy theory, but it would basically be ArenaNet saying "We're not afraid to do some crazy stuff in this game" on the one-year anniversary of it's launch... Just had the idea jump into my head today, and though I doubt it's true, it would be kinda cool.

Kinda cool? It would be the single best thing to happen to this game.

Now I'm going to be disappointed by whatever does end up happening. Thanks a lot, Retro :(

There's problems with it though; First, the actual Pavilion would be shut down, as would the gauntlet. They've never shut down content that quickly before, but if they announce it in next week's preview, it still gives everyone a solid week to get what they want out of it.

Second, Sophia pointed out that one chunk of Divinity's Reach is actually instanced; so they'd have to basically ignore that section (maybe that's where citizens have barricaded themselves in?) or something.

Finally, we haven't heard anything about something this big. Usually we get a few hints from interviews or datamined/leaked info. And something this big seems like something we might have heard rumors about.

I don't think it's gonna happen, but it's fun to imagine.

That's the one aspect that actually doesn't matter too much. Colin has stressed that surprises are definitely a crucial aspect of future LS releases.

Twist: We've secretly been fighting the battle this entire time. Two weeks from now we finally break the back of the enemy with one last desperate move and spend the last two weeks celebrating for real.

Yeah, but we have a small army of data-miners, a proven and (as far as we know) unplugged leak via Raidwarning.com, and devs talking in guild chat. We'd have heard something, I like to think.

SPOILERS FOR UPCOMING MOVIE

The same story from the second perspective was twice as interesting. True story.

well making good progress with ma asure ele level 50 now only 30 to go. Also they can shut down the pavillion as long as they leave the asure capitol city alone lol.

That makes me sad though, nothing will EVER be a complete surprise? :(

Oh, don't get me wrong... we don't know jack shit about the next update. Not one damn thing, even those of us who get to chat to the devs on a semi-regular basis.

If they plugged the leak, were very careful with what was going out in the update code (that's where Thatshaman is getting all his data; he's using a program he wrote to "decode the GW2 strings and archives them", whatever the hell that means) and gagged anyone with any knowledge... yeah, something big could be in there.

Usually we have an idea by now, some vague clue. Right now, we've got nothing. But I have to believe something as big as the Battle of Divinity's Reach would have gotten out somewhere... so... I dunno...

That makes me very excited though. One of the reasons I bitch and moan about Dulfy is that they put all that info out early. WoW had the Public Test Realms which mean you were seeing stuff a month or more before it actually launched; by the time it was live, everyone knew everything and had strategies on how to get it all done. Where's the fun in that?

I want to be fucking floored by the Living Story. That's not gonna happen with sites like Dulfy around, and I'm glad they reined her in a little (this last update, all she had were MS Paint doodles of stuff... so ArenaNet either told her to stop or they're playing this one absurdly close to the chest).

This man speaks truth.

I wanted to get into the later books, but the massive jump just didn't do anything for me.
I don't buy him as Savior of Aliens when he just got done obliterating an entire species from the universe. Granted, there was a lot to explore in the character, having to live with the reality of what happened, but I just couldn't get into it. Plus, Orson Scott Card is...erm... kind of a card himself...

For what its worth I can totally see like Aetherblades attacking sections of the city or something. Just not "taking over all sections of the city."

Good to know, I was too preoccupied with keeping up with the zerg and continually changing which race's buff I had on me to to keep a running tab on my gold per hour. I'll check out that champion zerg this weekend, as I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in some new skins!

It's not bad. Usually these updates being on the website feel so annoying to read because they're outside the game, but I never did meet Rox in game (skipped out on the later half of Flame and Frost) so it was interesting learning about her.

He links to a forum post that's been going around and even caused a badly titled post on Reddit. I figure this would be a better response to the part of your sentiment I didn't touch in the previous post.

They do need to work more on encounter design though.

There's a certain level of ingenuity lacking in some content that I think the post touches on. 40+ events added to game, and the devs feel no one enjoyed it. But the beauty of it, is that due to the way the game works, no one will ever know it's new because it's possibly content they missed.

One of the cooler things they added was random aetherblade ships invading nearby balloon drops. What would have made it really engaging? Countless waves of aetherblades (eventually not giving xp or loot) stopped only by boarding their balloon and sabotaging it. I feel like that would be something worthy of their earlier design.

YOU and I enjoy the new events as they're being added that are hidden. But the general public at large interprets the game being dead, as there's nothing visibly changing with the game to denote that they're working on it. This was the problem they were facing. The majority of players in any MMO are not going to seek out content on their own; they are going to want to be led around (especially in a themepark trapping).

This is the problem with the themepark model of MMOs in general. You try to do things that are subtle, unique, and engaging, and most people will ignore it in favor of the fastest gold making route.

I have made over 30 gold in two days just by doing farming. That is insane, I've never made that much money before in my entire guild wars experience. But the farming is compelling. I can finally attain my goals I want because ANet allowed it to happen, and I just took the route.

I loved the Modus Sceleris and Skritt Burglar events: Searching for them was a lot of fun, and the Modus Sceleris events are awesome - I wish they had a home base or something tied to them, but alas, they are just another addition to the game that many players do not just see.

Think of it akin to like raid content. If you place content in the game that is spotty when it shows up (because of how dynamic events work), disappears for a long time in between (because of how the new events work and rotation of events), then only a very small percentage of the playerbase ever gets to see that content. Other players ignore it or don't even seek it out because it's not apparent where it is. It's like raiding players in other games avoiding raids because of how hard it is for entry. They created their own barrier to entry by making them events that are not seen at the wider public range.

This is why they moved to the Living World, and their focus this year is to set up content platforms so they can lean on them, bring them back, and add even more things to do between the rotating schedule of events. I love where the story is going, but I would like to see more permanent content (which is coming, admittedly).

Colin can tout the permanent content in this patch all he wants; but the fact is that it's either A) cosmetic B) systems-based QOL changes. These things disappear over time and use because players are already used to them after a couple days of play. I can't "play my wallet" or "play with my finishers" as meaningful pieces of content.

I've gone through most of the Queen's Gauntlet; that type of content should be available all the time IMO, with new challenges added every patch. It's some of the best content in the game, and it's solo based. But the social aspect it builds (people talking to you between fights giving you tips, just making friends in general) is really amazing. It's a side effect of a solo arena having queues. And it's awesome.

*sigh* I love the game, don't mistake any undertones in my post. It's just very clear that it's going one way for the devs, and the players are wanting it another (at least a subgroup of them).

I can't wait to see what will happen past October, like that killtenrats article. Once they have the platforms in place, all sorts of crazy stuff will be added to the game and we'll have no end of choices to do things. Bring on Polymock; Bring on Permanent Mini-games with unique rewards; I welcome the diversions intermixed with story.

A couple days ago right after the patch came out i tried to use a fractal relic recipe (ascending a ring) and it didn't work because fractal relics were integrated into the new wallet system. at the time i said, okay fine it'll be fixed soon.

But, it wasn't fixed at all. they made all recipes that used fractal relics more expensive. As it turns out that they replaced all fractal relic recipes with crystalline dust, which is really really stupid, because the value of one fractal relic not at all comparable to the value of one crystalline dust. I mean crystalline dust was such an ignored commodity, it really needed another slew of recipes to encourage people to acquire it...

I suspect they did this because they couldn't figure out a way to use wallet items in the mystic forge. In other words, this change probably would not have taken place if anet was able to overcome their own self-imposed technical/design limitations. If you're going to make a wallet, which I love and everyone else seems to love, why wouldn't you find some way to still use wallet contents in the mystic forge, instead of lazily subbing out an ingredient and increasing the cost of the recipes?

I think there was definitely an attempt to do many things that, frankly, didn't work due to player behavior. I get this impression in a lot of interviews.

I think that they are building a framework to do what they want, but it's tough. At the end of the day, GW2 *is* a theme-park MMO, and Arena Net is actually best at instanced content. I think we can all agree that the living story's best moments were instanced dungeons. That's where the content has been compelling for nearly everyone. But that does fly in the face of their manifesto.

It's an interesting divide. I'm not quite sure where they're going to go with it.

Hey everyone, thanks for flagging. The team is aware of this issue and working on a fix, but it probably won’t happen today. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So, just don't do that daily today... bleh.

Crazy question here.

I don't have a Level 80 yet. These strongboxes and packs that I'm picking up - if I hoard them...and open them when I'm 80, will the contents reflect Level 80 items or whatever level I picked them up?

Something I always imagined that GW2 would do prior to launch was that the game would be much more dynamic. ANet say noone noticed their new events but that is probably because they were probably more of the same.

What I always wanted was a much more dynamic world with much bigger impact. Imgine if for example one day, randomly and not predetermined by a living story update, dragons for example attacks Lion's Arc and you would have a several day long battle to defend the city. If you would fail this LA could be in ruins and players would have to work together to help rebuild the city, gathering materials, crafting things, help npcs with various things and so on. It could take several weeks to help rebuild it.
This may not happen again for a very long time, it's all random. Something like this would create a much bigger impact and a sense of a living world instead of only just small events that reallly does not affect anything and are just restarted a few minutes later. We could even take the dynamics further by say having the dragons provoked by people killing them in the world and this would help trigger an event like this.
This is just one example of how I hoped for things to be. Dynamics events of this scale actually affecting the world and be triggered by player actions rather than a fully announced update by ANet is probably something we wont see, but one can dream right.

first off, not really picking on you
second off, how the hell have you had less than 30g? that's crazy low. unless you're buying every skin or gold to gems or something.

honestly, i'm pretty ok with things coming and going. GW2 isn't pay to win and they want to keep players logging in. but at the same time, i can totally see how this would make someone who is sort of interested in the game see things they missed and say it fuck it.

also, i really wish they would test these updates more. bugs happen, but there's been quite a few in the last few updates that are pretty apparent or some oversights from the devs for simply not play testing it enough.

but at the same time these events totally got me back in GW2 when i was getting bored. so there's that, i guess.

i do wish WVW would get some love and more gametypes for spvp.
