LIVING WORLD
Clockwork Chaos
The nefarious villain, Scarlet Briar, has made herself known to Tyria! Chaos ensues as she unleashes her clockwork minions across the world!
Closing Ceremony

Witness the high point of the Queen’s Jubilee! Attend the ceremony and hear the Queen’s Speech in the Crown Pavilion of Divinity’s Reach. It’s sure to end with a bang.

Clockwork Minions Invade

Scarlet’s clockwork minions are invading entire zones across Tyria.
Watch the World Event UI for new invasions.
All overflow maps created within 10 minutes of the start of the invasion will host a concurrent version of that hour’s event.
Complete additional waves of the invasion for an increasingly lucrative map-wide reward.
Map-wide rewards are limited to once per account, per day, per map. For example, players who claim the map-wide reward for an invasion in the Gendarran Fields will only be able to claim invasion rewards in other maps until the following day.
Complete all waves of an invasion to unlock a bonus battle with Scarlet.
Defeat Scarlet for a daily world-boss reward of two guaranteed rare items.
All possible maps will be invaded at least once per day.
Invasions will not occur in Orr, Southsun Cove, or maps suited for character levels below 25.
After the Clockwork Chaos release, the invasions will continue at a less frequent pace.

Scarlet’s Funhouse

Scarlet has claimed and occupied a prominent structure in Tyria and twisted it into a demented fun house.
Help Emissary Vorpp at the Crown Pavilion reverse-engineer Scarlet’s portal technology to find a way into her fun house.
Defeat Scarlet to restore the fun house to its proper form.

Ongoing Festivities

The Crown Pavilion and Queen’s Gauntlet will close for maintenance on September 3. Look for their return in the future!

Achievements

Two achievement categories have been added to the Living World achievement group:
Clockwork Chaos contains all release-related achievements and the meta-achievement for this release.
Emissary Vorpp’s field assistant contains achievements related to the Living World story for this release. It serves as a guide to completing key achievements in the Clockwork Chaos category.
Completing the Clockwork Chaos meta-achievement awards the player an Infinite Watchknight Tonic. Completing this meta-achievement requires players to complete 18 achievements from either the Clockwork Chaos category or the dailies related to the Clockwork Chaos release.

Exotic Drop

Play Clockwork Chaos content for a chance at the exotic Twisted Watchwork Portal Device Recipe.
The recipe requires a level 400 artificer. The ingredients are 50 Watchwork Sprockets, 50 Bowls of Salsa, 1 Unidentified Dye, and 1 Glob of Dark Matter.
The Twisted Watchwork Portal Device is a single-use consumable that teleports the user to a random place in Tyria. The destination may be very rewarding, very dangerous, both, or anywhere in between.

Yeah - the living world stuff looks interesting up I think people were expecting something more permanent and substantial for the anniversary judging by the hype. New weapons, dungeon finder - something like that.

On the plus side at least the pavilion is gone soI won't feel guilty about not doing the mindless farm anymore. Hope the new stuff is more fun that that and isn't pure zeroing...

Pavilion and stuff aren't gone. They close on the 3rd of September.

That update ... was not worth any hype. :/

Someone call me when we get new weapons/ classes/ Kodan.

15+ giant new map wide meta events isn't worth any hype?

You may want to find a new game. Even if you got a new weapon/class/race it's clearly not going to hold your interest.

ehh I wouldn't really call them "new". The events are all the same, just spread around the individual zones; nothing really unique there.

Anyways, definitely a let down. I was hoping for something...bigger...for the 1 year mark(new armors, class/race, etc).
My interest is held by shaping my characters, finding armor/weapons for them, building them up, etc. Some generic events or achievements aren't going to hold my interest at all.

Yeah, sorry but this isn't that great. It's basically one of Rift's zone invasions, but not as complicated or dynamic. Instead of a zerg running around the queen's pavilion, we now have a zerg running around a map doing the same thing. Plus the events are all the same, so it's one zone wide event. And each event within that is the same - murder troops, kill champions. Bugger if I can see the difference between the different Aetherblade captains, for example - dodge roll, rezz where needed and ranged attack seems to be the same for everything.

Ultimately, I'm beginning to think that unless you PvP GW2 just isn't worth it. Maybe its also because my class (Mesmer) absolutely freaking *sucks* in zerg situations, but running round desperately trying to tag something with my laser whilst struggling with the targeting system that wants to attack the Moa a mile in the distance rather than the champion hitting me isn't the best fun.

This is a nice little update, that if it's the basis for ongoing development and more complicated, better ideas will be a good thing for the game. But it's absolutely not worth the hype they put into it, and that is going to bite them in the ass. Ultimately, it's yet another mindless zerg which gives you worthless greens and blues for a reward. There isn't even a chance for some of the new zodiac weapons in the event from what I can see.

And why for the love of all that is holy do they not understand how badly received the majority of their characters are - Logan thackeray included!.

Yep. I'm getting a little worn out with all the zerg based gameplay.

I've yet to play, almost off work. But the patch notes sound good. Maybe some people expected more, maybe they could have added more. But it sounds pretty good to me. And maybe this could add to the recent Wednesday night champion slaughters we have done as a guild? Throwing the idea out there.

1) They made this in two weeks.

2) this zone event is more fun than anything I ever played in Rift.

3) The events are not zerg. you can go ALL OVER THE MAP. So don't follow the commanders and rag-tag with some others. I was with a group of 8-12 others, and we had a lot of fun. We purposely got away from the zerg to cover more events.

4) The events are on a lot of different terms, and you fights lots of different enemies in varied setups. We just did it in Frostgorge, and it spiced it up, when the Scarlet events overlapped with the normal zone events to make it double difficult. Was very fresh and challenging.
The events with the Steam monsters play different from the Dredge ones from the Scarlett and so on..

Mesmer is super easy. AOE on the ground, tab targetting clones to different target? I found it easy with Mesmer in a zerg. Staff is great for it. Just for chaos storm alone! Remember to tab target through the mobs. TAB tab tab tab tab!

What exactly have they not delivered on what they promised? Because I don't recall Anet hyping this. I remember other PLAYERS did. They said there would world altering events happening. Well, here you see a zone wide meta events that extends beyond and over all the other events at a random factor.
I don't think anything about that is not delivering on a two weeks update.

How much can you reasonable expect from them?

15+ giant new map wide meta events isn't worth any hype?

You may want to find a new game. Even if you got a new weapon/class/race it's clearly not going to hold your interest.

That WAS the plan ... until WildStar crap all over said plan with their $15 a month stuff. Now I'm firmly in the "Fuuuuu ... gonna have to research other Sub-Games like FF to see if I want them over WS now. And I gotta wait for EQN regardless ..." group.

And this game could easily hold my interest ... if I didn't feel like a ton of it's practices were anti-player. A wardrobe system where we have to collect skins and can apply them through out all your characters would be a GREAT driver for me to actually do things to get XYZ skins to make awesome out-fits for my characters. The Cosmetic side has always been of great interest to me.
But as it stands now, I have juuust enough Trans-crystals for 1 toon's (maybe 2, seeing as I never show the helm on heavy characters) final "look" to be merged onto 1 set of prefect armor/ gear set up. And I'm sure I don't even have enough gold for the prefect armor or the culture skins I want ... and I don't feel motivated to jump through the hoops to get it done right (Gotta not only have a clear idea on the final armor look but also the gear I want to run. Then from that I gotta know the set I want to run the MOST OFTEN. Then I have to figure out how to get the gold to buy some larger BAGS so that I can carry all this stuff. Then I gotta figure out where I'm gonna get the stat gear from. Then I gotta figure out how much all this will cost given I want some T3 culture armor for some parts. And that's just for one character ...)

Sooo yeah ... what I want most that would greatly keep me invested in the game (a Wardrobe System so that my characters can be stylin on yall) aint gonna happen so at the very least I would like to use my hair kit on some new Sylvari hair styles, play with some new weapons and be a friggin Polar Bear Person before I can find a game that does have want I'm looking for (plus a good art style. I like both WS and EQN art styles. Haven't seen enough of FF to tell though ...).

Bugger if I can see the difference between the different Aetherblade captains, for example - dodge roll, rezz where needed and ranged attack seems to be the same for everything. . . Ultimately, it's yet another mindless zerg which gives you worthless greens and blues for a reward. There isn't even a chance for some of the new zodiac weapons in the event from what I can see.

Wow, so much wrong here. Spoilers ahead!

1. Zergs upscale the invasion forces drastically; vets turn into silvers if just a couple people show up, and anything more than 6 or 7 people seems to kick them straight to Champion. As neat as that sounds loot wise (and believe me, I'm getting to that), it also slows down progression and all of these invasions are timed. The first invasion of Fireheart Rise failed specifically because everyone was concentrated into a zerg. When the invasion swept into Blazeridge, in my overflow everyone split off and I didn't see any Zergs, and we cleared it with time to spare.

This event is anti-zerg.

2. It's not just Aetherblades; there's also the Corrupted Watchwork enemies which require strategy; there's Menders that heal, another type that sits there and dumps AOE all over around it (and leaves a bomb behind when you kill it), and if you don't destroy them manually, they start reviving each other.

Oh yeah, and the Molten Alliance shows up, and they have entirely different behaviors and attacks from the Aetherblade. And Aetherblade Strikers are no push-over either.

3. Blues and Greens? 16 Exotic Gear Boxes, one of which dropped the Mecha Anchor Exotic. Jira and Hawkian each got an exotic, Ashodin two (of course). Even failing the invasion event awards you something ridiculous like 3 exotic loot boxes and a choice of Shoulder Armor scraps or Scarlett Loot Boxes; winning awards even more.

I dunno where you were playing, but the loot was hardly limited to 'blues and greens' and none of the actual event rewards were.

4. Zodiac Skins are a BLTrading Company item, which is their standard for new themed weapon sets; the 34 new exotic skins they just added in the last update are dropping all over the place though.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
You can and will (and we have) fail the invasion events if you treat them as simple zergs. The best thing you can do is roam with a small group and make contributions to the event component that is going more slowly at any time.

A lot of mob types are reflected in the different factions and they do have differences and need to be prioritized or they will wreck you. There's also a new mob type involved.

Outside of the events themselves and whether or not you find them fun, the continuous game-wide notifications are maybe the most significant addition to the dynamic event system the game has experienced since launch. There is a continuous energy of "something happening" every hour in game now, spanning almost the entire gameworld. The invasion spawns cross over and interact with existing in-map DEs, resulting in hilarious situations and incentive to, in the aftermath of a completion or failure, go finish off whatever happens to be going on nearby. It's brilliant, and the five overflows experienced in Dredgehaunt Cliffs this afternoon is a testament to that.

It's also clear that these events will continue in some semi-permanent fashion for months, setting the foundation for new world-impacting changes that can change the feel of full zones, or multiple zones, in exactly the ways a "living world" should.

This update also added a brand new full weapon set, 46 new minis, added achievement and UI improvements (while retaining access to everything from the previous release), plus the WXP rate increase, treb mastery, and of course the complete elimination of culling which has had a pretty substantial impact on the way the world appears from a social perpsective.

And we haven't even seen what is in
the funhouse
. One imagines it is absolutely nothing like what we've been talking about so far.

*shrug* It's a pretty fucking awesome update. I'd like more... but more is coming in two weeks.

I just ran into ~9 people I knew from different guilds in a 2 minute span in LA. Maybe that's not uncommon or anything but the game just feels more alive now. Well it's also patch day I guess. Maybe not noteworthy.

Are the events in overflows not working? I keep getting stuck in them, but the events never start despite it saying one is occurring in the main map. I thought they were supposed to start on a delay, but they never did on the maps I was on.

I think if the overflow you join was started within 10 minutes of the mainflow starting, then it will start in the overflow as well. These first few days will probably spawn multiple overflows, some of which will be past the 10 minute window.

I believe you have to be in the overflow within 10 minutes after the events start, otherwise you go to a secondary overflow where the events don't occur.

This is truly one of the best patches. It's like someone turned our champion hunts into an actual world event.

Feel the exact opposite. Mindless zerg running from spawn to spawn, rinse and repeat, for 45 minutes is not my idea of fun. Rift's been doing this same thing, only better, for years and it isn't that good there either. All this event did was highlight the games massive flaws with PvE combat and the two week content schedule.

You must be in the minority, as a lot of people are praising the zones being populated, the crazy chaos going on in the entire zones all that crazy shit. It's awe inspiring. Especially with culling off.

Fun little fact. Earlier I watched a zerg group that included me get utterly wasted by a champion. Ten or more people just dropped thanks to a nasty AoE attack. I watched an entire chain of people run back with me. They nearly failed the whole event too because of that. If that's mindless zerg, I want more of it. :p

Hell, I was downed twice in the story event. I probably suck, sure. But the new enemies, and the way they interact with one another, does not favor mindlessness. Everyone will have to choose the correct targets, as well as minimizing those targets' affects on the event that is happening. I like this. Even if some seem to be underwhelmed by this patch, to me it seems like groundwork for bigger and more permanent living story additions in the future.

Personally, what I want to see the most, is a reclamation of Orr. That land is so blighted. How awesome would it be to see it restored in some way? This LS patch feels to me a step towards content that could lead to things like that.

Hey guys, thanks for the guild invite, glad to be part of the crew!

Been a loooong time since I played this game but it seems like it's keeping up really well, excited to get back in.

I think he's assuming this was made in 2 weeks. It was made in roughly 3 months by a whopping 10 or so people. The Living Story teams aren't that big and the rest of the company works on all of the bigger features and larger forms of content like Guild Missions, Fractals, etc and of course whatever they're doing we've yet to see.

So I'm wanting to get into this game "for reals," but it's pretty bland without a clan to roll with and help me get accusted to the game's bevy of mechanics. Is anyone in a newb-friendly guild (or whatever it's called here) that can invite me?

My world in Henge of Denravi.
