Hopefully we see some good things about the Rev on the livestream today. There was a post on the official forums thanking ANet for the Shiro legend that eventually deviated to complaints about how restrictive it feels without weapon swap or a system to make up for it and how there's very little choice in skill loadout. Plus, legends are pretty obviously designed with certain weapons in mind.

A dev eventually chimed in and told everyone complaining to watch the stream today. So hopefully we get a little more info than just a look at the Shiro legend.

Dear Penthouse forum,
Never thought I'd ever duo Arah 4 for fun.

Congratulations though.

See? Working already!
Also; D'awwwwwww! So fuzzy.

I honestly don't know where they could add more customization except letting you pick from a small pool of utility skills for each Legend or having some generic "Non-Legend" utility skills you can swap in. Theoretically they could make certain weapon skills different depending on which Legend is active (for example, Staff #4 is currently a condi-cleanse and heal, but they could change it to damage instead if you're in Mallyx stance?), but I feel like that could get overwrought quickly. I don't think Weapon Swap is going to happen unless they've been play testing the hell out of it, looking at the data from the BWEs and have decided it's just not working. I wouldn't get my hopes up on that one and I don't think it's needed, personally, but we'll see. It's hard to judge a new profession without all of the cards on the table.

I do agree that there needs to be a little more room to wiggle around, my experience with the class during the last test was satisfying but stiff.

Honestly, just customization of utility skills is all the profession really needs and would fit in with the theme of the class. Like with Ele, just spend less time on weapon skills and more time on utility skills and/or variations. In a lot of ways, it's the utility skills that make the Revenant build work more so than the weapon, just like Engineer.

Yep, right now you have 15 skills but even with the cooldown on utility skills being short it still feels kind of limited. More utility skills would do the trick... that or allow a third Legend, but I'm not sure that'd work well.

It feels like it's almost here but not quite. Definitely interested to see today's stream.

How does the weapon swap work? Do you swap when you swap Legends, or can you swap independently? I don't think Revenant should get the ability to swap weapons without swapping Legends, if that's how it works.

Always surprised how dumb twitch chat can be.

Sword skills look neat. Screaming op is silly given the dmg is a bit on the low side. People seem to ignore the whole energy mechanic when making their brilliant accusations, too.

As near as I can tell, they're independent of each other.

Tempest next. Give the people what they want, anet.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to Tempest and whatever Thief gets, even though Engineer and Warrior are kind of my mains. Those two seem like they'll get something reaaaaaally interesting.

Sort of flies in the face of this being the heavy armored version of Engineer or Elementalist. Probably not a comparison worth making anymore.

I wonder if Revenant will get a second underwater weapon now too? Some of the Legend skills will surely be rebalanced to make up for having access to 5 extra weapon skills, so a second weapon there seems necessary to keep things level. Though most of the water Legend skills may end up completely different.

Revenant Staff

Staff

Staff damage was lower than it should have been and felt weak even as a support weapon. Damage will be increased, and the healing-power scaling will be increased to improve the staff’s support aspect.

  • Rapid Swipe: Increased the damage by 30%.
  • Forceful Bash: Increased the damage by 36%.
  • Rejuvenating Assault: Increased the healing-power scaling by 50%.
  • Punishing Sweep: Increased the damage by 33%.
  • Debilitating Slam: Increased the damage by 100%.
  • Renewing Wave: Increased the healing-power scaling by 30%.
  • Surge of the Mists: Increased the damage by 11%.

Yessssssss Debilitating Slam I felt had poor damage, so they're fixing it.

I agree that thematically, what the fuck ANet? They probably don't have time to make extra utilities or really, really don't want to; the class needs to stay somewhat lightweight to justify its inclusion when they have so much on their plate.

Mechanically, though? This fixes it. Now the Revenant bounces between 20 different skills, but there's still likely to be more work done in the future for flexibility.

Without digging into things too deeply, I kind of feel like the "spirit" of that comparison kind of works, it's just implemented on the back half of the action bar instead of the front. While Revenants have weapon swapping now, they're also limited to two sets of pre-determined utilities at a time (in theory, that could always change too, of course). Ele and Engineer can't swap weapons but have access to Attunements and Kits, respectively, that soften that limitation a bit by changing their 1-5 skills; on the flip side Revenants can't swap their heal, utility or elite slots but have the stances to soften that limitation a bit too.

I don't know if it all adds up or not, and I'm not trying to get into a debate about mechanics or balance anything, I just feel like the concept of each weight class having a "class with a limited hotbar" mechanic is still present, just in a very different form.

I really didn't expect them to get weapon swap but as a melee class-heavy class it's hard to imagine not having it... Interestingly, I wonder if this opens the door for Elementalists or Engineers to gain weapon swap via their Elite Spec. We know Engineer is getting a melee weapon, after all. And I sure as hell wouldn't say no to an Ele that can nuke the hell out of everyone with a staff and then ride Dagger / Dagger (or Sword / Dagger, I'm still not convinced Tempest is getting Warhorn) like a storm into the thick of things.

Hmm you might be on to something Retro! It makes me wonder if Engineer or Elementalist might get something like that in the future, but limited stuff in return.

Basically, Ele gets to choose TWO elements to focus on, or one element period + weapon swap.

It does make the old Revenant seem even more limited in hindsight.

Elementalist has the four elements, each with five weapon skills, plus a heal, three utilities, and an elite, for a total of 25 skills at your fingertips. Conjured weapons have the possibility of driving the weapon skill number up even further.

Engineer can have five weapon skills plus up to five kits each with five skills, for as many as 30 skills at a time. The toolbelt also provides another five skills.

Revenant is now two weapon sets with five skills, plus two legends with five skills, for 20 skills at a time.

I still feel like the weapon/legend swap should be tied together, but maybe that is needlessly hindering the profession. It already has to deal with not being able to pick and choose what skills each Legend provides, so I guess it all evens out.

Maybe it would have been okay for Revenant to get more than two Legends at a time? Properly balanced, of course.

The idea is that because revenant can't mix-match utilities, their skills are a bit more powerful to compensate for that. Adding weapon swap was kinda required in order to not make Revenants too much of a one trick pony, and to be easily countered in PvP/WvW.

Ended up Ktraining to burn through a bunch of bonus wvw chests. Bit surprised how awful SBI's team/map chat is. The attention seekers hit a new level of stupid. In comparison, FA has their stuff locked down tight.

Engineers and Elementalist are the last classes that ever get to complain about balance imo. Biggest fear is Revs turning into a heavy version of them, but ANet looks to have it in hand. Better even given the trait lines seem to lean towards specific roles rather than being so universal. It does not look possible to have a Rev that will do uber dps with Shiro, then press F1 for all the support ever with Vet. Mean-the-hell-while, thats like a Wednesday afternoon for an Ele.

Elementalist and Engineers getting weapon swap too would likely make me rage out of pvp entirely.

I feel like weapon swap was needed honestly. Yeah they wanted to have it be a sort of "mirror" of the other non-weapon swap classes, but unless they added more legends or whatnot, it wasn't going to work. It felt too rigid.

Also, for fun, here's some speculation. Those who want to remain free of spoilers ignore my post, where I talk about Revenant's elite spec.

So, since Glint is the elite spec, and we have all non-glint icons, let's talk about Signets. Lots of people are raging that signets are passive and whatnot. But here's some cool stuff. Let's look at the datamined icons:

Neat stuff huh? I can't even wonder what they do.... but here's the fun part, we also datamined other icons which seem to be related to it!

Full album can be found here, take in consideration there are 2 icons which seemed related to dual wielding which haven't been used, AFAIK.

That's odd, it looks as if the Signets turn into Shouts.

Perhaps when you use them, they cease to be signets and turn into shouts, then back to signets on recharge? No idea.

Anyway, the Glint head one is most assuredly the Legend icon for the swap bar. The dual wield ones are for the new Assassin's trait that gives ferocity to nearby bros

Revenant Elite Spec discussion, tagging it in case people don't want to know what the data-miners have found.
Glint Spec will give you Signets, but the Elite Signet allows you to "Become the Dragon" and all of your utility skills roll over to new abilities.

The + Signet (clearly the heal) becomes a shield, the Wing signet becomes a breath / wind attack for knocking enemies back (Zeroth, you have this in the 5th spot), the Blindfold Signet becomes some kind of "Radiance of Glint" attack (that dude's eyes and mouth are bleeding, that's no shout), Chain signet becomes a stunbreaker. The last icon is a meek-looking dragon, it's what allows you to swap back out of "Dragon mode."

It's probably like a super-tanky Dragon Defender of Tyria mode that drains energy.. that's the best guess I've got.

more Elite spec spoilers
Also most likely is what Rytlock is using in the trailer.

Two GIF spoilers below

Glint Legend swap? Seems to be the case since it's art, like the other specs

Become the Dragon? Or the Breath attack skill?

So, I may or may not be waiting until the Steam Controller comes out to actually play this, but if I ended up getting bored of GW2 before Heart of Thorns, is there any new reasons to join in now?

Because I may be considering coming back.

EDIT: Also has the Medium armor class gotten anything other than trenchcoats yet?

1. Depends on when you played last, there was a whole second season of the Living Story that you can pick up for $2 an episode if you want to replay them. Two new zones, bunch of changes.

2. Mostly still trench coats, though there's a few that aren't (Glorious via PVP, Striders via Gemstore, Carapace via LS Season 2)... but you can hide them with outfits now, at least.

Man, everything shown today about Revenant was awesome. They definitely did the right thing, show the class to be strong. However, I still feel they need to improve the other legends. I don't want Shiro to be a must have, at least outside of PVE.

Golem event is already boring lol. Don't see any fun outside of maybe huge zergs of golems fights, but otherwise bleh, sucks this is all week.

I bought it on release but theres a long time I dont play. If I jump at it again, and create a new character, can I play right away with gaf without needing to worry with level and equipment?

Cause iirc, at PvP and WvWvW you start right away at level 80, right?

As long as you are on a NA server , yes .

Since the Mega server system was introduced , everyone can hook up with each other in PVE regardless of which server you are on as long as stated above , you are on a NA server .

However for WVW you have to be on SBI ( where most of the guild resides ) since that is still server specific .

EDIT: also yes you will be upscaled to level 80 but you will stil be severely disadvantaged without traits and level 80 armor to survive .
You will also likely get oneshoted by mobs that are 20-30 levels above you but we could have guild members escort you .

Great! Thanks for that!!
Also, at WvWvW, your equipment matters, or just like PvP you get top tier from the start aswell?
