coercing a character forcefully doesn't feel so in-character in him, as he strikes me more as only cunning as a businessman but not as a twirly mustache villain

I agree with you. He was always a businessman of questionable ethics, but it didn't come off as much of a "bah humbug how can I screw over those do-gooders" stand-in-for-a-republican as it does now.

It's fine to make him a greedy "profits first" character, but there's plenty of those in fiction that still come off as likeable. Gnashblade does not. He's eye roll worthy. I was hoping he'd have a more active role in the fall of LA that would have slightly redeemed him, but they didn't go for it. Instead, he came off as disgusting during that event, so it just kind of sucked.

Meanwhile: Ellen Kiel is just boring. Gnashblade had the chance to at least be interesting.

Are we expecting LA to be rebuilt in time for HoT? The Festival of the Four Winds last year was dedicated to raising money to rebuild the city, and there has been zero visible progress on it.

"Sorry we lost all the gold you donated , please give again .

Nah still crashing, just happened again. The people in my dungeon group said they've been crashing all day as well so I guess it's the patch and not me. First bit of CoF gear though, so woot woot.

He was conscripted by Kiel and forced to supply the entire Lionguard during the Battle for LA. His business was basically destroyed in the attack, and what was left he was forced to essentially donate. He's likely ruined, so the businessman days are over for him, revenge probably seems like all he has left.

Wait what is the forceful coercion we're referring to? I feel like I must've missed a plot point

During the Battle for LA, if you hung around Vigil Priory there was ambient dialogue where he was conscripted into the Lionguard as quartermaster and forced to donate his goods to the war effort and refugees;

Lionguard Jirtta: Evon Gnashblade?
Evon Gnashblade: What is it? Shouldn't you be failing at your job somewhere?
Lionguard Jirtta: You've been hereby conscripted into Lionguard service under General Emergency Statute 14.
Evon Gnashblade: You're joking. Someone tell me this sorry idiot is playing a joke on me.
Lionguard Jirtta: For the duration of the emergency, you and Black Lion Trading Post agents will act as deputy quartermasters outfitting all active personnel.
Evon Gnashblade: And what if I refuse? What if I pull up stakes and leave you suckers in the dust?
Lionguard Jirtta: Considering you are now technically a Lionguard supply officer, desertion would mean confiscation of your wares and summary execution.
Evon Gnashblade: So, it's either get robbed blind by you Lionguard or get hanged?
Lionguard Jirtta: Firing squad, actually. And it's not "you" or "us" anymore, Quartermaster Gnashblade.
Lionguard Jirtta: Speaking of which, we need two dozen swords, a dozen axes, twenty shields, and forty rifles.
Evon Gnashblade: (grumble)
Evon Gnashblade: Just tell me one thing. Kiel—she's dead, right? C'mon, give a guy good news.
Lionguard Jirtta: She and Captain Magnus are at a relief camp to the south. And your deputizing was Captain Kiel's idea.
Evon Gnashblade: Of course it was.

Fuck it, boss was on 20% and I crash again and lose it. This patch has completely buggered the game for me so I'm just not going to bother.

I guess this is exactly what I'm gonna do.

So who else is interested in a C team for fractal who play around 9am to noon EDT and 8:30pm to 11pm EDT?

I know Trey is interested in it and I also heard Thorg is, Kos is busy being Colin which leave him no time for it. I also have a friend who's stuck for fractal but isn't part of gaf, he's been in a lots of guild run dungeon though, so I dunno if it matter.

So for an official, non-official, sub-official, and totally confirmed member for 2020 gaf fractal C team:
- Tech-Wolf
-
-
-
-

PS: happy birthday to you Thorg

I can do this. Those times are good for me, too.

Ellen Kiel Representation Buttons for everyone.

Finally, the rest of you come to your senses.

Honestly releasing the patch on Monday was a big win for Anet, if they knew they had bugs, they would have time to fix them.

Fixed a server crash.
Fixed an issue that prevented some players from viewing or sending messages in guild chat.
Fixed an issue that caused some guild upgrade queues to stall.
Fixed an issue that prevented players from building two guild upgrades at the same time.
Fixed an issue that caused health bars for downed party members to display in green instead of red.
Added longer protection from fall damage when players use Tequatl jump pads.
Removed color tinting when the postprocessing level is set too low.
Fixed an issue with the downscaling of stat multipliers.

I was referring to his Escape from LA bit:

(After Protect the Black Lion Dolyaks event succeeds. This is the special escort version that only happens at 40 minutes past the hour and occurs only once per cycle, Evon Gnashblade is with the dolyaks in this escort version)
Evon Gnashblade: Get outta my way, runt. I gotta get merchandise through that gate.
Captain Shud: Hurry it up, Evon. I have citizens here who need this gate.
(Evon's dolyaks move slowly to the asura gate)
Captain Shud: Evon, move your dolyaks. I need to get these people out of the city and shut down the gate.
Evon Gnashblade: What? That's your problem? Don't worry, Shud. I got you covered.
(Evon and dolyaks enter asura gate, then it shuts down)
Captain Shud: That greedy...! How did he shut down the gate?
Captain Shud: Never mind. Get to the city exits.
(Captain Shud and civilians leave in a different direction)

I'd forgotten about Jobotron, he has so many sins to choose from.

Hopefully this patch will make the game playable again, I'm sick of crashing.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Oh, so it was meant to be red all along! I thought they changed the downed health to green intentionally.

Evon could've been a lovable rogue but Escape from LA put him firmly at the arsehole end of the scale.

Exactly. It feels less like in-character and more like "you voted the right person so let's show the loser to be slimey!"

He was conscripted by Kiel and forced to supply the entire Lionguard during the Battle for LA. His business was basically destroyed in the attack, and what was left he was forced to essentially donate. He's likely ruined, so the businessman days are over for him, revenge probably seems like all he has left.

I thought it was implied he is getting better now due to how "the attacks have driven the other merchants away".

I was referring to his Escape from LA bit:

I'd forgotten about Jobotron, he has so many sins to choose from.

Don't forget the current ambient in Fort Marriner, which his sliminess is much more apparent, what with coercing Hero-tron. Now, if he is actually coercing the golem to spy for something better, that'd be a great character turn-around. But this is Anet so...

Also there are TWO Evons! One's in the Gerranden exit and one is in Fort Marriner. If they pull a "that's not the real Evon Gnashblade!" story I'm also gonna give props to Anet. But alas...

They didn't even wait for us to vote. Gnashblade was already cheating during the election. They did nothing to make him redeemable, which makes it weird that they had an election at all. What a dumb event.

Much of the time I feel like GW2 has the writing of a badly written comic book. I can't describe it.

It is an mmo, the priority is to simply explain why you fight xxxx.

which usually takes form in very simple very uninteresting writing. But Guild Wars 2 has made an art of writing convoluted and needlessly complicated narratives.

WoW Would've said "oh there's an election, here's the winner, it doesn't really matter but it's there".

Wow, didn't expect such a thorough response! Thanks Vig! Chat is cumbersome, if I whisper someone, is there an alternate way to get out of whisper and back to regular /say other than selecting it from the drop down menu?

Just start with /s and type whatever you want. Map is /m, party is /p, and guild is /g.

So apparently the new wvw meta post stability patch is pirate shipping.

Kite each other around till one side gets overconfident or to close and then nuke them into Oblivion with necro bombs.

The hype train has slowed down to a snails pace.

Barely anything being talked about now, aka Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is never coming out!

Pretty sure a lot of this last update was setting up the beta client, wouldn't be surprised if next week they start sending invites out to a wider audience. Probably too early for news on specialization, maybe, but who knows? That and guild halls are really the last "big ticket" features left, right?

Just a note, my fotm level is not that high. The people I run fotm with stopped a week or two after they released the fotm revamp. So I can't do fotm 50 yet.

I don't see anything convoluted about gw2 story unless you are mixing the lore and story together.
