Not gonna lie, Ky look like a girl now with that ponytail.

Can't wait to see how the others look like, give me dat HD A.B.A

Japan is weird... it could be "exerd" or "crosserd". They can't decide how they want to use X most of the time.

Nope.

Yeah, it looks so stupid.

So, who do you guys think will return? I'm pretty sure the entire top ten will make it, but other than them Potemkin and Faust are guaranteed a spot, I think. The cast is pretty small so I'm sure most of them will be back, though.
Oh I'm sure everyone will be in + 1 or 2 new fighters.

I don´t know what to say...i mean yeah, new Guilty Gear, i´m happy...but looks...weird? far better than sf4 imho, but weird as fuck, i wasn´t expecting 3d

Saw the pics and was like...

"3D? Damnit..."

Saw the video and then I was like...

"Holy shit this looks great!!!"

They nailed the visuals! Finally! 3D up skirts of Bridget!

He catches Dizzy ;)

Haha yeah he does. :P
In that way I guess he ends up better off than most other characters.
That has me thinking though. Timeline-wise, where do we think this game falls? I was kinda hoping it would pick up immediately where the previous installment left off, but the difference in appearance and weapon design seem to point towards a longer span of time.

Bridget to cement her place as the number one Guilty Gear character confirmed!
Why weren't Capcom able to do something like this?
Ask Dimps

Capcom is just the publisher.

Before gg2 unless ky got a haircut, probably 2 or 3 years after ac

First time celshading actually achieved what it was supposed to all along?

There's been a pretty natural progression towards this. CC2's cel shaded games figured out a lot of animation and modeling techniques for replicating 2D animation. ASW seems to have brought even more to the table.

Generally I think the point of cel shading isn't just to duplicate animation. But bring more flexibility to the look of it. Cel shaded CG has been used heavily in actual animation for years now.

Games are tricky since they're real time and respond to player input. CG in films can be massaged to perfect the look of it.

Why weren't Capcom able to do something like this?

For all the hate SFIV gets, it's an intentional art style. Prototype images revealed that they tried several styles, including one that was like MVC3.

I always felt the final style of SFIV was intentionally intended to not look like an "anime game". As if they wanted to help it sell well in the west with a broader art style. So they settled on something that looks more chunky with some marker and ink rendering.

Meh. They manage to have choppy animation even with 3d models? Capcom, where art thou?
It's what helps manage to give it the appearance of spritework despite being fully polygonal, everything is deliberately animated in that timing that even stuff like Ky's cloak has an animation loop instead of being realtime physics.

"I think it's next gen - Unreal Engine and 'new era' quote makes me think that. "

I think the "new era" is just talking about their shift to 3D characters.

Also, need to see Slayer.

Yeah possibly. But somehow I can't see them rolling this rendering technique out this late in this gen. For the effect to work, they need to invest a lot of power into shadowing and AA/AF. Can't see them going Unreal 3 for that.

I dunno, I think this is on a whole nother level. To me, this is the first time celshaded models actually looked like drawings and not.. celshaded models.

Oh I'm sure everyone will be in + 1 or 2 new fighters.

That depends though on how efficient the team is. Because this is their first 3D fighter (on a new engine), and their second 3D game (I think?), so I don't think they'll be able to pump many characters. I'm expecting 16-18 characters for the first installment personally, with 2-4 new characters.

Wow the graphics are amazing! But I'm underwhelmed by the actual fighting on display though, it doesn't seem to have changed very much. Will have to see what new changes they'll bring to the system.

Zato-1's never coming back since his VA passed
away.

I wouldn't count on that, Daisuke's not reprising his role as Sol (and I hope someone asks why! I'm not going to be able to unhear Nrvnsqr from his new VA).

That looked absolutely amazing. My initial disappointment about it not being sprites has vanished after just one view of that trailer. I'm really liking Ky's new look as well.

Sol used to have a different VA in the story scenes anyway, even back in the GGXX days. I think Ishiwateri may have been rad enough for the ingame move calling but lacked the chops for the story stuff. If they're having even more voiced lines that's probably why he stepped down.

Well, it's not really their first 3D fighter if you count Battle Fantasia. But I'm not sure how much staff would be shared from that game.

They probably kept the choppy animations for gameplay reasons. Smoother animation could mean adding more frames to moves which could affect the gameplay.

Maybe though, so take it with a grain of salt. I personally like the shitty animation. Part of guilty gear's charm in a way.
