Ok let's analyse lore-wise who can make it in, because yes, there are weirdos like me who play story mode thoroughly and care about the story in fighting games.
  • A.B.A: Unlikely. Since she joined the cast later, her story mode revolves around her and Paracelsus; nothing too critical.
  • Anji Mito, Baiken: Likely. Both chasing "That Man" (and Anji actually working with him) make them somewhat relevant to the story, besides Baiken is pretty popular.
  • Axl Low, Faust, Zappa: Out of the 3 only Faust. Implying Zappa is cursed by Axl's girlfriend from the past is a side plot that is getting nowhere.
  • Bridget, Jam: Likely on popularity alone; the ending where Bridget is forced to work in Jam's restaurant would be pretty hilarious if made canon.
  • Chipp Zanuff, Potemkin: Unsure. Potemkin is actually killed in ACP but he is THE grappler of the game. Chipp being president would be funny though.
  • Dizzy, Johnny, May, Testament: Very likely to be in, these guys are very important to the series. Also I would love to see a Pirate ship full of hot chicks instead of lolis.
  • Eddie, Millia, Slayer, Venom: 2 of them confirmed. Venom very likely since Eddie has come back. Slayer, although popular was retiring from fighting as of ACP.
  • I-No: Unlikely. I think we'll see a new villain this time. Also, "That Man" was pissed at her.
  • Justice. Kliff Undersn: Unlikely. These old farts are done.
  • Ky Kiske, Sol Badguy: Duh.
  • Order-Sol: Unlikely. He was sent back to his time at the end of ACP.
  • Robo-Ky: Unsure. Despite being pretty important pre-ACP it would feel old having him back if this takes place after GG2.

be refreshing if Bridget actually looked liked a dude in this new one instead of reusing the same design. just make him the most beautiful dude in the game.

Yeah that word is bannable iirc.

Honestly I'd just be happy if they keep his design as it is. No need of any fanservicey crap.

You forgot Fanny... ;_;

Now is the perfect time to start a new plotline with Faust where Fanny can finally enter the main series.

Disapointed by art direction and how 3D renders it. Posting the image again to compare :

wrvnew_gg_compare.jpg

  • The 3D lacks details for hair and small details on clothes as well on shadows on the muscles.
  • Since it's 3D, the models don't deform like original sprites or like capcom did in SF4. So you can see that sol has short legs, a small head, large shoulders compared to his sprites (mainly on his stance, it's ok in most moves so it's cool)
  • The models have the same problems some blazblue sprites have : it may be cool to use 3D but it negates the drawing part that made the original game stand out. For example the 3D model of sol has such large arms you can't distinguish the torso from the arm, it's ruining the silhouette of the characters, and the lack of deformation enphasize this.

About Art direction :

  • Characters are more straightforward, less subtle in their incarnation. Sol has giant ponytail, giant muscle, giant sword, giant lighter... As if Arc was not sure people understand he is the badass of the game... Well now he's not badass anymore, he's just an anime hero with everything that could be enlarged being enlarged. Ky is the opposite : since he is a frustrated gay character, he has a ponytail as if gay means you are obviously feminine... I know it's for the bishojo thing but that's just shit too. It's juste like...
  • THE GIANT BELTS everywhere... There were belts on GG characters, but not GIANTS belts. Sounding like the game is screaming "YO ANIME FANS I HAVE BELTS I AM STYLISH" but that's just ridiculous. Leather stripes/belts/wristband originally came from metal culture and GG was inspired by it... But now it's sounds more like a reference to anime than metal.
  • The CG, portraits, chara design lost the Ishiwatari touch. It's the same characters, but streamlined to fit shitty taste of anime fans when Guilty Gear could appeal to both anime and metal fans/culture. No deformed art and faces, no grotesque attitude, no baroque, just anime, anime, anime.

I really like the fact they try something new, and when I see everyone liking this I am happy they are succeeding. I am sure they'll do a good job with gameplay, I'll probably play it and all... But man... Guilty Gear, from an art point of view, is dead. What is left of it is just fragments of how genius it was before, when you could take risks and not just parody yourself. I just hope the next trailers/characters will prove me wrong.

Seeing that they could replicate sword trails I'm going to guess that deformation is possible with how they're creating the 3D models.

Looks good. Wish they would just skip to Guilty Gear X Blaz Blue though. It's probably so far away but you know it will be on the cards at some point.

How did you figure the lack of deformation from that one trailer? Looked pretty spot on in this comparison shot.

Edit : you found the pic ! Check the stand kick for example : shorter standing leg is obvious, and it's the same on standing pose. Sol is not the most deformed character of the game so that's not so obvious when you do not take notice of it. I wait to see Faust/Zappa and characters like that to see how they will handle them. Maybe after that they'll come back to the first characters too.

The game will probably evolve a lot so never say never, SFIV evolved a lot, and BlazBlue too when you compare first characters to the last ones. :)

Yeah we get it you don't like anime.( always odd how people use anime as such a generic term, when if you actually watch anime there are a multitude of different art styles that include the grotesque and Baroque.) The character designs are not radically different from previous Guilty Gears. Sol looks like Sol, just beefier, Ky looks like Ky but with a long pony tail.

They both look blocky

I wish they had retained at least some of daisuke's style.

Dude is legitly one of my favourite artists.

Instead it looks like his design in a more generic anime style.

But I guess his art usually features in the character select.

If you don't attach any importance to details, of course they are the same. And I like anime too it's not the problem. I know there are many types of it. The problem is that this GG seems to takes the most generic look you can find in anime production. :(

Thank you for reading. :3

What the fuck are you even talking about.

You didn't know Sol and Ky were both gay and had a relationship before Ky had a child (Sin) with Dizzy in ouverture ? Well that's the story of them. ^^
