Suck it, Antigua haters! :D

obnoxious how japanese jazzmasters are more noticeably more expensive than japanese jags on ebay

seems like the popularity of the jazzy is finally coming to head, i predict the strat will come back strong in 5-10 years

Seems about the same to me, minus the semihollow run they did for each a while back.

New (shitty) pic of the family

From left to right

Loar LH309T (pickup removed, played exclusively as an acoustic)
Epiphone Les Paul (stock)
Squier J.Mascis Jazzmaster (Fender pickups, Compton chambered titanium bridge, Sentell pickup behind bridge)
Squier Jaguar Vintage Modified (stock)
Squier Standard Telecaster (rosewood neck replaced with a maple one)
(not pictured is a shitty $80 knockoff pawn shop Strat used for weird tunings)

I received the Les Paul as a gift from my friend recently, restored my Tele and bought a Jaguar. I had a bit trouble bonding with the Les Paul but I like how focused it sounds when played clean. Still hate what it sounds like with dirt though. Can't see myself playing it too much honestly

After leaving the Tele as a broken husk for a few months I got off my ass and restored it. Switched the EMG pickups to the stock pickups, as I no longer play with a stupid amount of distortion and the EMG pickups sounded dumb clean. It was refreshing to play the Tele after dicking around with a Jazzmaster and Jaguar. The directness of the sound and playing was refreshing. The pickups are a bit shit though. Might replace them soon.

The Jaguar became my favorite guitar as soon as I bought it. I think I still prefer the sound of my JM a bit more, but the short scale is very easy on my tiny hands. It also looks pretty fucking cool. I had some trouble with the bridge because of the rattling, but I just dabbed some melted candle wax between the saddles and now it's gone. I might replace the stock pickups but I'm pretty happy with it now

So I bought a Epiphone Les Paul Prophect GX a few months ago, can't remember if I posted about it or not, but it had Gibson Dirty Fingers pickups which I didn't really know anything about. They sound way to muddy with both pickups or just the neck being played, and the bridge is too treble-y, so I'm thinking about getting the Slash Alnico 2 Pros by SD, I've heard some sweet demos and I think they would fit my style and preferred sound more. Anyone have any experience with them?

I've got an Epiphone Limited US Classic Goldtop Les Paul; it's basically, a Slash sig. without the signature and with a 50s neck carve instead of the slimmer 60s carve, but still with the one piece mahogany back, long neck tenon, and SD Slash Alnico 2 Pro pups. Here's a terribad phone pic of it with my PRSi:

Anyway, to answer your question, I personally LOVE these pickups in this guitar. I've had four "real" Gibson Les Pauls, and I've sold them all, but this guitar is going nowhere... It sounds legendary! It's just awesome...

And as long as I'm here, these are guitars I picked up here and there this summer... The only one bought new is the Epi Casino Coupe in the centre; I played three at two different stores and fell head-over-heels for this one. Wonderful little hollowbodies and I recommend anyone who has the chance try one. That's an Ibanez JS1200 on the left, and a Rickenbacker 650 Sierra on the right... The 1200 replaces my JS1000, which was a great guitar but I prefer the CAR finish (jury's still out on the PAF Joe vs the PAF Pro in the neck) and the Sierra's hardware is actually 24K gold plated, which means its always a smudgy mess... really cool guitar though...

Does the Casino Coupe keep a nice hollowbody sound? I've wanted one, especially considering where the neck/body joint is and a 330L is hard to come by and a 390 is too pricey.

Yes... It's amazing... this little guitar sounds more resonant and airy and is louder than my Hagsrom HL550 (a full-body jazz guitar) was - in fact, the Hag sounded tinny by comparison, and went to the consignment shop for sale three days after I brought this home... The Casino's neck-body joint is sweet, and noodling riffs and triads around the 15th fret through the neck pickup can produce tones that are orgasmic... it's a crazy good guitar for the money in my opinion... the pickups may be a touch hotter than some people like, but they're not flat or harsh and they tame easily with judicious use of tone and volume controls, and I've no urge to swap 'em out yet (that was my primary only concern prior to purchacing)...

I should mention though that of the three I played before picking mine, one had some significant dead spots high on the neck around frets 15-18 on the G and B strings, so as always try to play before you buy...

Here's my latest bit o' kit, a Tronical Tuner:

It's an automatic tuner, that can tune your strings to 12 different preset tunings and 6 more user-defined. Just the thought that I'll never break another e-string while tuning makes it worth it.

I installed it on my MIM Telecaster. I think I'll swap my old tuning pegs to my Squier '51.

Cool, but why would this prevent you from breaking strings while tuning? (or, rather, why were you breaking strings while tuning?)

That looks cool, not $300 cool though

It winds the string up and tunes the guitar for you. I've always had difficulty tuning high-e strings. "Almost there..." sproing! Although, I did just easily do it, so maybe I've gotten better. Sadly, my Telecaster pegs did not fit on my Squier '51.

Yeah, it was an impulse purchase in lieu of buying another guitar. It's fun to quickly and accurately switch between tunings, but I'd put it pretty low in terms of needed gear, unless you were a gigging musician and didn't want to dedicate one axe to a certain tuning.

noticed that my local guitar center has a used marshall shredmaster for 130 bucks

anyone every own or mess around with one? i kind of want one simply cause of jonny greenwood.

I had a clone before. It can be really muddy. Some people like it because it can sound huge but I didn't really like it. Chords especiallt sounded like sludge. Not sure how different an original would sound

You'd probably have to use a boost/eq pedal to get most out of it. Iirc Greenwood uses a Boss OD pedal as a boost

Honestly I really don't like his tone because it sounds way too hot. Two lace sensor reds wired as a humbucker + OD pedal + Shredmaster = holy shit dude. Works in Radiohead since he's playing with two other guitarists but alone it just sounds a bit ott imo. Ymmv

just so happens i'm in a band that features two other guitarists so i've got the space to really go big

i currently have a tubescreamer, a rat 2 and a big muff but i'd like to replace the big muff with something because it's too big to fit on my pedal board. while i realize the shredmaster isn't a fuzz i still had some interest in it, was also looking at the zvex fuzz factory.

I was thinking of getting this. I am really interested.

Other than I'm a maple guy when it comes to strat necks, go for it! 60 bucks a month for two years is manageable.
Funny, the rosewood neck has been what's stopped me so far. I've never owned a maple neck guitar, but I love the way they feel when I try them at the shop or borrow a friend's.

ended up jumping on the shredmaster

evol you weren't kidding, thing goes into beastmode when boosted with the tubescreamer. i dialed in jonny's settings as per the king of gear website and it retains enough clarity that chords sound fine. im getting really nice mbv shoegaze tones out it too, i imagine its not too far off from the boss heavy metal.

I recently made a rare(for me) trip to the city and while there I set out to test out some gear with the goal in mind to find and buy a new Strat.

I played a bunch of Custom Shop's and all of the American Vintage series and found what I was looking/listening for in a maple fretboard American Standard... And then I started playing around with some of the other gear in the store.

And that's how I ended up with these:

lol

And ASAT With the Bigsby mounted.

I got a MiM Fender from a friend dirt cheap. It's almost new. So I've decided to make some changes to it. So firstly I'm going for a white colour all blade style pups.
0144702580.jpg

So, for the humbucker I'm thinking the Di Marzio X2N. The Seymour Duncan SHR-1N in the neck (or the Di Marzio The Chopper). And a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the middle.
Basically I'm going to have three humbuckers. It's going to be a LOUD guitar!

What I want to do is change the tremelo arm for one without the plastic knob i.e all metal. I know I can get replacement Fender Deluxe tremelo arms but I think they have a different fitting. Hmm. Need to find one somewhere.

The pups cost around £70 each and the guitar only cost £200 so it's not breaking the bank or anything. It's a project I guess. But what about the pup suggestions? I'm not certain on the X2N on the bridge. Maybe a bit too much? That said this will be a loud axe so it's no problem if it is. Any opinions will be duly noted.
