Xacto knives are a good utility item to have around and are useful for a ton of different things, just switch blades often because knife accidents with just about any sort of knife are more often than not (ironically) due to the blade not being sharp enough.

Also, have reasonable expectations about how they will look when you're done, especially if you aren't willing to go all-in. Without painting and detailing or a decent amount of modification, the kits don't look like what you see on TV or in online galleries or even what's on the back of the box.

I use small clippers but I never use those carving knife things. Should I get one? I never even paint mine :(

Well you could also use exacto knives, but I always ended up cutting myself several times each kit. Also, it's much harder than just using clippers

I use both usually. Clippers to remove the large nubs and the exacto knives to cut away smaller bits. I just have a take it slow because I've taken little chunks out of Gunpla before when I'm not careful :P

Shitty picture but look for the blade type on the top. I used that over the standard triangle ones as had a nice round edge to do more focus work on parts. Less chance of the rest of the blade leaving a line somewhere. Actually had a case with all different blade types when I was real heavy into model building.

As a kid I used to use surgical scalpels a lot since father was a doc. Those are fantastic if you got steady hands. Whatever you do, dont cut yourself with one though. Since personally I found those blades to be a lot sharper than xacto ones for obvious reasons.

Man if I had time again Id build a Zudah custom. D: Need to look at the list in Gundam Breaker 2 wonder if the Zudah is in it. Doesnt look like it from the starting roster. D: Maybe with the free & or paid DLC unit expansion.

May I suggest these cutters?

Or any from that brand, honestly. They're a bit on the more expensive side, but they do the work of cutters on the super expensive $30+ side. The flush cut blades on these guys is invaluable and they cut plastic like butter. You'll save yourself a lot of work just by investing in nice cutters up front.
Thanks for posting these, I ended up ordering them. The clippers I got in that basic Tamiya tool kit aren't handling the really hard plastic of the MG God Gundam frame very well. I'm afraid they're just gonna break in half when I use them on it.

Thanks for the suggestion. If they are as good as you say, I will definetly get them. On the exacto knife discussion, I was thinking about getting one just to shave off smaller parts.

They're some great nippers. You can buy better, of course. Tamiya makes some great ones in the $40+ range. I've been eyeing these God Hand ones for a bit http://www.hlj.com/product/mnesen-115/Sup. Good luck getting those at a decent price, though. Sell through pretty quickly and you have to import them from Japan. The Xuron's have a good combination of price, availability and quality so you'll get good use out of them for quite a while.

I'm tempted to get Mr. Bearguy III, but I'm not those hardcore "paint/draw lines" people.

Also I cut and put parts as they appear in the instructions rather than cutting all. Am I bad?

You'd have to be crazy to cut all the parts at once, I think. And while painting might be difficult drawing lines isn't challenging at all, and even if you make a mistake it's super easy to fix. You should give it a try.

bearguy III is a great kit to learn on, nice and big parts. Its already colored correctly for the most part so even doing just a little bit of panel lining will make it look good.

It depends on the number of processes you're doing on your model, if you're just using clippers and not doing anything else, then there's no reason to do everything all at once. People like me will probably just want to file down all the extraneous plastic bits, but really serious (crazy) people will need to sand, prime, and spray/airbrush multiple coats of paint on every single piece so they will need to work in batches.

Zero panel lining with a Beargguy III and it still looks great. I made sure my daughter (almost 3 years old) helped every step along the way and she was too impatient for panel lines. Still looks great.

What tool should I use for panel lining?

I'm not really that hardcore, and back then I had done Gundam Rose and HeavyArms, both were mess lol

I see the topic of knives came up earlier. Personally I'm not a big fan of Xacto. Neither the #11 blade or the steel they use to make their blades.

For modeling I much prefer Olfa. Tamiya sells some re-branded Olfa knives. The smaller blades are much easier to control I feel. The #11 is just too big and accident prone. Olfa steel stays sharper longer and I've broken less of them, plus they are made in Japan.

We get to see what Nils has been up to all these years. Hope we get a kit of that deathscythe in the future.

Huh, didn't know erasers work on them. I thought you'd need something like an alcohol.

That's useful for when you do a wash, but if you're just panel lining with ink an eraser is all you need.
Don't forget, ink. If you use something that is arcylic or enmal based you'll need thinner or alcohol to wash it out.

Gundam Build Fighters Try Episode 11:

The day that Adou Saga graced the presence was he most important day of Yuuma Kousaka's life but for him it was Tuesday.

ANIME JA NAI
ANIME JA NAI

Also, holy shit.
I can't say we didn't get that good-old-fashioned Build Fighters spirit in this one.
Shame about Niiiiiiiels Niiiiielsen only showing up for a bit.
I'm glad to see that the whole
punch everything to solve it
concept was dealt with.
DARKNESS FINGER
I'm assuming that these two episodes will be the turning point for the Try Fighters.
Also, that ending. IT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN.

Oh god DAT ENDING
Meijin entering the fight like the goddamned glorious god of Gunpla that he is
. Shits gonna go down BIG TIME next week!

So much in one episode! I can't even.....

That part with Fumina and Sekai had me rolling.

Yajima
, you mean? :P

Man, this episode. I was sure this would be filler for the most part, but NOPE. I was marking out when
Meijin's theme started playing, then out comes Perfect Gundam III like a god from the heavens.
SO hyped for the next episode.

I like how gross looking the general design and color scheme of that new suit is, reminds me of watching high-level Japanese Tekken or VF matches and seeing how bad the character customizations are.

That was a technically 6 vs 1 battle and Adou still won. Plus the fact he used a seemingly modified Deathsycthe that uses bullet fangs and a revolver plus demon gundam hands made this a great episode for me. Looking forward to the full reveal of his gundam. Oh and guessing, we're gonna have a mopey Yuuma now considering the possibility it wasnt even his actual nemesis from back then.

Also that freaking tease at the end.

Episode 11

Damn, those fangs were super OP. I'm wondering what else the suit has going on under the cloak and wings.

But, at the end nothing else mattered because the Meijin music kicked in and got me waaaaay too excited.

ANIME JA NAI! ANIME JA NAI!

Holy shit that episode was hype. Goddamn it's good to see this show back on its tracks

When the flamenco started. my blood was pumping

Goddamn

Haha, this mofo coming down like 0 Gundam on the battlefield. Praise be the Meijin. Gundam Amazing Red Warrior looks a lot better than expected animated. Dat Obari.

This was the episode I was waiting for! I finally got to see that cray Gundam Wing mishmash mobile suit I liked (or, at least a derivative of it)! And it delivered! Dude is OP!

They are definitely different units. I'm banking he's saving the other one for the actual tourney.

Gundam The End. That is so badass. Sometimes it seems designs/names are tailored just for me.

Anyone notice the GN Drive particles from the fangs?

That was a fucking hype episode. praise to Masami Obari for bringing the energy back to the show. It really needed these last two eps to build up for the second half of the show.

I am pumped for the next episode. Talk about the shot in the arm this series needed. Can't wait to see what is up ahead.
