Gundam GQuuuuuuuuX announced. Collaboration between Studio Khara and Sunrise. Hideaki Anno is writing.

Jesus, don't they realize how noticeable mediocre 3D graphics looks on 2D backgrounds and 2D characters in high resolution, and most importantly, how it spoils the overall perception of the picture by the eye.

Looks bad.

Last really good Gundam was Iron Blooded Orphans.

Witch from mercury - I thought it was terrible, stopped watching around episode 7 or something.

The art direction is my worst nightmare holy hell

It should at least be better than "Witch from Mercury" in terms of story/characters (but thats not really saying a lot)

Where the heck is Hathaway Gundam 2?

I was actually disappointed that this wasnt a game. Anyways, I mean this looks okay I guess. I suppose I just want more from gundam. Even something generic that isnt trying to have some modern writing where everything is deep or good guy is bad and bad guy is good outside of the the normal implications between zeon/federation

This is a series and not a game right?

Just gonna say that it's dumb af to have gundam battles in a space colony as a sport, do it on asteroids or some shit where you're not damaging shit

I dont understamd bandai, they have shitload of old Gundam that they can remake in modern graphic and yet they keep choosing to make all this weird things just for the sake of wanting to find "new audience"

And then they can spend shitload of animatuon budget to make this sort of animation inside their Gundam Mobile game 🤷🏻‍♂️

This actually looks amazing.

The art direction is solid and a step up in the series. The lighting, the way the scenes are framed and layered, this is a level of detail most of the series doesn't seem to have. The animation looks very solid as well and I'm not surprised the director of FLCL is involved as I felt that with the animation.

Gundam requiem for vengeance was decent. Me and my son binged it in one weekend

Looks underwhelming similar to Witch from mercury, Iron Blooded Orphan, Seed Freedom, and Gundam Age.

Gundam Hathaway Flash is the finest example of great gundam anime.

Even if it's anno, i wont see it. I once avid gundam fans, so deep, i can menrion thousand mobile suits since 0079 msv.

I never liked gundam tv series anymore since 00 ended, and gundam yuri whatsoever, nailed the coffin for me. Ugh maybe im just too old. The gundam is ugly, its not like real robot anymore, and looks super robot, ugh ..

Truth, this is a legendary team working on this and seems like a fresh take on Gundam.

I too thought this was related to a game lol

Nice but where's the game?
lolz, we are all trying to figure out why this is here and not in a different section, as this has nothing to do with games.

Excited!

Those are some big names in there.

WRITTEN BY YOJI ENKIDO (FLCL AND UTENA) WITH HIDEKI ANNO
DIRECTED BY KAZUYA TSURUMAKI (FLCL)
CHARACTER DESIGNS BY TAKE (POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD, SUN AND MOON)
MECHANICAL DESIGNS BY IKUTO YAMASHITA (EVANGELION)

Also Gundam Thunderbolt came out around the same time as IBO and that was good (although I'm not sure I caught all of the episodes)

But yeah this is a definite skip from me-just like the Witch from Mercury.

I'll admit, I'm not a big Gundam fan, but this seems like Gundam in name only. I'd imagine purists are pretty upset over this, especially after all the Witch from Mercury drama.

Having Anno involved practically guarantees a decent plot, but the art style and characters are pretty awful, in my opinion.

Apparently it's an alternative take on UC, if Char had been successful in stealing the Gundam in the OYW.

Saw the movie at the cinema (in Japanese in Japan.) It's pretty cool. Overall I like the style and writing A LOT more than Witch from Mercury which I could barely sit through. Had a grin on the face during the opening because it really leans really hard into the OG series (beyond my expectations) which is still my favourite Gundam series. I don't think it will be top tier Tomino-level Gundam but should be entertaining. Enjoy!

It's coming out in february in America, can't wait for it.

That's a little hopeful for me. Also do not like Witch of Mercury but do like the OG but... have not been on-board with Tomino's stuff after that, generally (i.e. Zeta sucks). Thunderbolt S1 is peak Gundam to me.

I have faith in Anno, generally, so I have hopes we'll get something good this time instead of the weak, safe play for the franchise that Witch was, but Witch was also successful so hopefully Bandai and/or Sunrise don't mess with the dish too much.

Probably, but if it weren't for the fact it was the first Gundam series to air here, I don't think it'd be remembered as fondly.
I don't think Gundam would've caught on in America without Wing. Wing is the perfect introduction to Gundam as it's not as heavy into it's theming as others and puts more focus on the characters. Helps people figure out if they want more or not.

And the Gundam franchise has released much more mundane series than Wing.

I think the gundam looks nice at least but not liking the character design. Visually it looks really clean. I haven't watched a gundam show though since I believe Gundam Seed.

Like?

WING is complete garbage. It has the "cool" factor but the writing is embarrassing. I remember watching it when Zechs Marquis is fighting and his mask cracks and he says "Treize... When my mask breaks... We can no longer be friends." Thinking it would handle it as a gradual process to represent the cracks in their friendship forming and take a few episodes or more to hit. But no, right there, right then does his mask just break and I was stunned at how dumb it was.

First episode is out on Prime.

It's...something. Very saccharine. Action sequences are chaotic and sometimes incoherent. Typical Gundam themes are present but thrown into something that feels more like ADHD Diebuster.

Gonna stick around for a while and see how it develops.

Will 100% watch.

I love the choice of art direction they are going with as this looks like one of the most detailed Gundam show's they've ever done.

Does the first episode add anything that wasn't in movie? Waiting to watch it for free on another streaming service so I'm just curious.

Did you catch the movie? The first episode makes more sense after the whole alternate 0079 story imo. It's really weird how it starts out.

Absolutely not, for us that saw the movie, we havent seen anything new this week.

Nope, didn't catch the movie. I'll stick with it.

On the fence over the first ep. I liked the character design in motion more, I liked the environmental detail (particularly the city), I liked Tomoyo Kurosawa as the lead. The animation for Amante's dash to the gundam was also smooth.

A lot of the rest I could leave. The in-your-face yuri song as the two female main characters meet at the shrine was not in sync with the show (and I just watched the conclusion to Mob Psycho 100 which handled its final insert song so much better so I have a fresh point of comparison). I'm a little nervous about any femmance being some weird directive from Bamco that'll just be weak yuri bait like Witch, but maybe this will just be a Lycoris Recoil-like buddy femmance (I can hope!) or it'll be yuri actually done, and well.

Some lines like 'those buildings belong to refugees anyway' are a bit on the nose - I think we could gather the MPs don't care about the people living there already from the shots of them moving around the ground, smashing it without a care ("One of the gundams landed in the shantytown, captain" before the smoke screen went off would have been a cleaner line, if you wanted to remind the audience of what Nyaan had already told us).

Biggest hope for the next episodes is that we don't spend tons of time at Amante's school. Please let the school just be a footnote.

Main gundam is still butt ugly.

All that said, I'm still giving it a chance.

From the cute main character design I take it this leans more towards Witch from Mercury than say the more serious tone of UC stuff or like 00. I think its fine every once in a while but please add more of the serious story matter in between.
