One of the people working on the show said on Twitter that the final mecha scene in the OP was actually animated for another episode, but Tomino cut it out during editing, and he decided to use it for the OP instead. Lulz.

ZZ Gundam. Upbeat protagonist. Frantic energy.Haven't gotten to catch this yet, but can anyone tell me which previous Gundam series does it tonally resemble so far (apart from Turn A obviously)?
I just want to say the way this show is edited and the dialogue is so horrendous. I thought people were exaggerating a lot, but jeez, it feels worse than the average anime every season. It was never THAT bad in the original and I would know becuase i ran through it not too long ago
I don't see why people think it is confusing so far.
The first two are definitely hectic, but then again I don't want long exposition explaining every goddamn thing in the plot in every episode like so many shows tend to do.
Maybe I am wrong, but the editing that people talk about on the staircase (the interruption) seems to be 100% intentional so I think people are being a little too critical at this point.
There needs to be a middle ground between that and Tomino not explaining why anything is happening though. It isn't that bad to not explain everything right away, but I still like to have some idea of what's going on halfway through a series, which hasn't been the case with Tomino series that I've watched before.
Let's be honest here, by any technical standard Tomino is not a particularly good writer or director. His style has appeal because of how haphazard and strange it can be, creating a unique feeling. But whether that is entirely by design or just a consequence of his lack of actual ability, we'll probably never know. Ultimately, it doesn't matter as much because he's so crazy he comes up with settings and premises where the content actually fits the tone of the nonsensical direction.
Oh yeah, I agree. I guess I just find it weird that people would complain about it in a Tomino thread.
I saw that as just him being surprised he actually was allowed to move itI just got around to watching the first two episodes
*commercial break*
and I'm wondering why it seems like they were chopped together by a small child. It's not a bad show, but the editing is bizarre. They go to the dock in 2 with the express purpose of him moving the Gundam and when they get there, the guy says "Move the Gundam" and he goes "EHHHHH!?" like he had no idea, moments before a cut and him going "Okay!" with a smile on his face. Just....awful... aaaahhhhh
I hope it gets better.
Just saw the first two episode and had no idea what was happening. People keep saying this is Tomino's style but I don't remember being this confused in the original gundam or Zeta.
I don't understand this sentiment at all. The plot is very basic IMO. I could probably summarize the 2 episodes in 5 lines each:
Episode 1:
Mysterious girl is captured while falling from a Gundam of unknown origin.
MC is some sort of generic soldier, captures Gundam when it attacks the space elevator.
Gundam contained yet another mysterious girl.
MC discovers he can pilot the Gundam.
Random girl characters show us gender roles are well and alive centuries into the future.
Episode 2:
Everyone is back on Earth, the pilot girl is captured and the random girls are taking care of the mysterious girl.
Some sort of religious/political meeting is taking place, mysterious terrorist faction appears to retrieve Gundam and pilot.
MC goes to look for pilot girl, retrieves her.
They go to where the Gundam is being stored to defend it.
MC defends Gundam from terrorists.
That's about it. What's there not to get? The show is bad. I cringed at some of the cuts, dialogue and the 80's-worthy gender sensibilities, but I can't see how it is in any way or form confusing.
This.
I tend not to over think anime and just take it for what it is. Tomino is clearly not showing you everything or telling you everything initially, but I found the first two episodes of G-Reco to be really straightforward.
I mean, the original Gundam feels rushed in parts....but that is probably because the last 1/4 of the script was cut and it was forced to end early!
But I am sure there is someone out there watching it for the first time and going "Fucking Tomino needs to learn how to edit." lol
I can't say I was expecting this thread to be 9 pages long.
What the fuck did I just watch?
What the fuck did I just watch?
I can't say I expected us to be at 9 pages after only 2 episodes have aired. Will be really interesting to see how (or I guess I should say if) this inevitably slows down over the course of the season.
Well what I mean at least is I feel like there is zero exposition so I have no idea the state of the world or who the different sides are so I don't really have a reason to care about anything yet. By the end of the first episodes of MSG I know who the federation and Zeon were and the stakes at play, right now I know nothing. There has to be a middle ground between loads of exposition (that would damage the pacing) and no exposition at all.A good portion is people not knowing what's going on for some reason -_-

The first episode of G-Reco is enitrely in keeping with this. That bad pacing, editing, writing, composition - that's all classic Tomino.

Anyone know where I can stream this?
Where do you live?
If you're in the UK, the first two episodes are free to watch, but then you have to pay for the rest of the series. It's also available in France and Australia.
In North America? Yarrr, matey.
What the fuck did I just watch?
Was waiting for this.
All this innovation, I can't handle it. Tomino be praised.
