Still gonna go unnoticed rapup is just for me now.

In that first half of 2015 in music thread you made. I spent a good 2 hours just collecting all the great material I heard so far. I opted not to post it, because I know nobody will take a look, or if anyone did they're a lurker. In fact I think I defaulted on my last year's AOTY post.

not a lot of posting, but your last wrap-up did get 1,600 views, which is more views than tyga got on his itunes page all week.

Aint nothing wrong with a solid 12 pc mild. Good to stuff your face quick. I prefer to avoid primarily hot sauces on wings all together ]

First Impressions - Vince Staples' Summertime '06

This album is difficult as you start listening to it. I think the first disc is mostly dry with a few standouts and the 2nd is much better. If this had been cut down to a single disc I could confidently call it GREAT but as it is you have to drag your ear through some tepid shit to get to the stuff that makes you bop your head uncontrollable.

There are great all-around songs which really do give you that hard to describe nostalgic-yet-modernized rappity rap feel, kind of the best kind of rap in my opinion. Norf Norf, Jump Off The Roof, Senorita, 3230, Surf, Get Paid, Street Punks. I wouldn't call Summertime or Might Be Wrong rap songs really, but they're good and net positives for the album. That's more than enough in quality and quality for a good album, and you know what, if you get enough of that I'm not sure if it matters that the rest of a double disc is full of some bullshit.

Some songs have good raps/beats with truly awful hooks (Lift Me Up makes K.R.I.T. look like Drake), or interesting beats with kind of forgettable anything recorded into a microphone (Birds & Bees, Like It Is) and some general fruity stuff that tries to do too much at once (Lemme Know, last verse onwards is good though). In general a lot of these cuts don't do anything for me and I throw straight into the never will listen to again bin. I wrote most of the previous part of this paragraph just as I was getting to the 2nd disc on my 2nd listen-through, and at the time the lows/dry spots appear really low but when I got to the 2nd disc I almost forgot that the first disc was that tepid at times.

tl;dr:

Just listened to Meek Mill album, through Apple Music.

Did not enjoy. Fast rapping no matter what beat is behind him. And it dragged on too much.

4/10

Drake saved it or I would have scored it lower.

revisited that Casino Life 2 and it's actually pretty decent. guess i had to be in the right mood for a trap Montana tape after Mac & Cheese 4.

The problem with Meek Mill album is the same problem with all of his work: He's a high energy rapper that manages to be boring. There are always going to be a few standout tracks because every now and then he finds the perfect production to match his one note style, but as a body of work it's just a collection of mediocre braggadocio gangsta lyrics rapped loud so it seems like he's "beasting", but nothing stands out.

Meek always been meh even in his battle rapping days. All yelling, but no substance. Daddy O should have been in MMG :(.

meek can not yell and still be good though. Traumatized and Amen for example. not sure why he decided to go all in w/ the yelling this time.
