I was talking about this with someone a few days ago. It's a preachy album while still being fun. Vince is never not dropping heavy narrative and it's all important but his gut shots matter.

That whole last verse on "Like It Is" is important but then he rips your chest open:
"No matter what we grow into we never gon' escape our past"

He's a great songwriter. Period. He already seems to have an understanding of when to just fall back flow & bullshit and when to go for your throat. Knows when to say okay just ride and okay pay attention now. Production is part of it too and I'm sure No I.D. was a big guidance but it shows. Hell of a debut "album."

Album is fucking potent.

Think about those opening lines
"I'm just a nigga until I fill my pockets/ and then I'm Mr. Nigga"

That's how he starts the god damn album brehs

"Finna spaz cause most my homies never finna get this chance
All these white folks chanting when I asked 'em where my niggas at?
Goin' crazy, got me goin' crazy, I can't get wit' that
Wonder if they know, I know they won't go where we kick it at"

That shit is too real

Just reading those Vince Staples quotes got me off my iPad, out of bed and back to work.

About to buy it right now if it's on iTunes.

Jay Rock taking a page from Gibbs with these downtempo jawns. Letting the gangsta shit take a break to kick some real shit. whew beat and chorus are smooth as fuck.

Money Trees Duece+Gumbo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Parental Advisery+Pay For It. Jay Rock sounds way more comfortable on these last two records and the production is way better. Seems like he figured out a balance between gangsta shit and life shit.

Damn, king of R'n'B? This is impressive.

Yeah I'm enjoying it as well the psychedelic sound fits well with his style. Can't believe we started with Dangleo and we still have The Weeknd and Frank Ocean to look forward to man this year delivering in all genres.

It has good production here and there and I didn't notice a huge amount of pussy-licking references

But those are the best parts. like little wayne is a fucking shit rapper. that should never be argued against. at least he's got some entertaining lyrics. I always try to pick out the worst ones. he's got some stinkers man.
