Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Thanks for showing your deck, Justin.

I actually went up against a Wild Boar of the Sea deck and thought I had him cornered when I dragged Morkvarg away with Ciaran's ability.

Then he proceeded to buff his Clan Tuirseach Skirmisher instead .. -_-

Yea even if you take out core pieces, you will always have other big pieces. And it's very hard to remove both Mork/Olgierd already anyway. Since they always revive and you can unlock/revive them yourself if need be as well. Hopefully rank 11 tomorrow and top 1000. I was worried I'd never get rank 21 but I'm almost halfway there in like 3 days of playing ranked. Yea it will get harder now since I'll need more mmr and will face harder opponents, but my main concern was the 2 months timer.

Then again I got to max rank in closed beta in 2 months too so.

It's not weather itself that's a problem, nobody runs weather in Nilf, Skell, or NR decks hardly cept for RnR maybe.

I keep a frost in my deck as nilf. Just in case I res a ice hound from a monster or they go in too hard on a single row. That said, fuck weather. Having to haul around multiple clear cards or cards with the effect is awful.

How many cards are people keeping in their decks? I usually keep mine pretty tight so I don't have to hope for good RNG to do combos. I don't have summon clones or any of the gimmicks that would benefit from carrying more, tho. I think I'm at 30?

I usually have 38-40 for scoitatel. Depending on what I draw I adjust my strategy

I have 3-4 plans depending on my draws

Unless you have insane deck thinning you really should keep it close to the minimum. The more cards in your deck the less likely you are to draw your Golds and Silvers

So did everyone get Geralt and Premium Geralt for free? I know normal Geralt was given for free but was premium given out as well?

Yea servers are kinda fucked atm. On PC as well.

Yea it's jacked but it actually does still give out the daily rewards and counts em. You just can't see it. I just did some casual games and after winning a few I logged out and hopped back in and it counted.

Good. I just thought my first win today was useless.

Also, Xarthisius (crafted this one) and Treason doesn't work. Just did it to my Skellige opponent, chose RnR, used Treason the turn after but out came a different card.

Due to budget, limited resources, or story integrity she was not featured in the game..

However, her fate was addressed in a comic (Matters of Conscience) released by CDPR. You should be able to download it via GOG.

Saskia was apparently killed by the Nilfgaardians during their invasion of Vergen.

I'm more curious about the fate of Iorveth & Anais La Valette.

Servers are working again.

OMG this was so frustrating, especially considering Maria LaValette is in TW3 and it's like she doesn't even give a shit. She never brings up Anais and is just going to horse races and shit with Voorhees. She gives zero shits about her own children.

So I just checked the options and saw Japanese dubbing and I've gotta say, I love it lol, definitely my second favorite after Polish.

Starladder was the last Hearthstone Event for now, played it since I was invited 2 months ago. Wanna focus on @PlayGwent, thx Hearthstone :)

And another one. So big Hearthstone players/streamers that are playing Gwent now are Lifecoach, Nox, JJ and Forsen. I've seen Tides play it too and Trump plays it randomly still, but not that much as the others. It's interesting to see people actually move away from a game because of bad devs decisions.

Decided to give it a try, and wow .. I'm surprised again by how lethal it is.

Are there any decks that gives it a hard time?

Also, it seems that if I don't have Wild Boar on my hand, it's a tad more difficult to make use of it.

Holy crap I just won a match I thought for sure that I lost.

I'm scoitatel vs northern realms and we are on round 3 and we both have 7 cards each but all my cards except one were special cards. I won with like 2 point lead but honestly the thing that saved me is the only unit I had was the elf that gets boosted every time you use a special card xD got him to +16 lol while I strategically picked off his guys with my special cards lol

The guy didn't give me a GG though :(

Hi. I love card games and I am going to give Gwent a try. Is there anything like an aggro tempo deck here? is my favorite archetype in Magic and Shadowverse. Something that plays aggressive creatures and disrupt the opponents plans at the same time.

Also are there any decks with quirky ways to win? I like that kind of decks too. It is what I play in Yu Gi Oh! Duel Links, decks like Weevil Burn and Doriado Fuh Rin Ka Zan.

Search for control decks, and there are some really neat ones out there. There are also lots of variety in decks with all sorts of weirdness. The problem in all this is it will take you months to build any of these decks (if you're not paying).

Gwent is unlike any of those other games. It is closer to poker than it is to Magic or YGO.

Thanks a lot, I will look for them. I don't have issues investing money in the game if I find it fun and fair.

That raises my curiosity. I will try it to see if I enjoy it thanks.

Why did this game add a billion keywords and not add a way to see what they mean when you hover a card?

Should have specified I meant in the mulligan phase, whoops.

You have to pause over it for a bit then the keywords will shop up to the left of the card.

Isn't available from anywhere though, most notably it's missing from keg opening screen.

Just played against a monster deck that had 5 or 6 weather cards. Thankfully I won.

I am gonna guess the first biggest change will be related to weather cards

You'll quickly know them by heart, trust me, I've had the same issue at first.

Yeah I suppose I'll just get used to it.

So meteorite powder is new. I'm guessing this means you don't have to craft premium cards separately? Seems cool, especially since you can still open premiums randomly.

Servers are still wonky. But I had a couple wins earlier today that didn't give progress at the time, but it looks like progress eventually caught up.

The keg gods have smiled upon and gave me Cerys for my scumbag queensguard deck!! Now I just need Birna and Hjalmar.

Not like I had much of a choice since the other 2 choices out of the keg were Geralt and Imlerith.

Still having a choice is so awesome, where in HS you get so bummed out for getting a dupe. I mean I kinda why legendary's are so rare in Gwent considering you get a choice most of the time.

Just so everyone knows for future reference. All of this that was being seen was all visual bugginess. The only actual effect was GG was disabled for a lot of people. If you ever don't see progress happening and really want it to show (or if you should have gotten a reward or card and it's not there), just close the game and come back in.

I got to say ... I can see why the complexity of this game might not be too welcoming for new players.

Some of the starter/budget decks out there can do serious damage for the uninitiated. As you climb higher up the ladder, then the cheese becomes even more aggravating.

I still feel like CDPR should allow us access to all cards, but only in Practice mode. That way one can test synergies and figure out what makes a faction tick, and then work towards a particular deck to use in multiplayer.

Also, as someone that doesn't get much time to play, I want to pay money but currently it doesn't seem worth it. I'm much more likely to grind for a little while, and then perhaps drop off the game completely rather than pay. If however I could get ALL non-premium cards for $60-100, I'd be much more willing to shell out the cash. They could then charge small amounts like $20 or so for new card set releases.
I feel like that would encourage more people to buy, and it would result in a much bigger competitive community for Gwent.

But I guess the current model is more profitable for them, even if it results in a smaller community.

Yo, this game is extremely fun for me so far. Very satisfying to just kick back and listen to music when playing.

What's a good ratio to have in these games? Often times I ill have too little attack cards, or too little magic cards. Would like a decent balance.

What are some good Monster-gold cards? I'm thinking about Milling some leaders and getting some solid additions.

My mains will be Nilf and Monsters. Spy-tactics are fun and it feels GOOD to steal cards from graveyards. :D

Almost all of them are really good except Draug. Caretaker is a universally good monster gold card for stealing your opponents stuff. Succubus can flat out win you games and is great against buff decks like Nilf.

Caranthir is a staple for weather monsters because of his positioning and that he almost guarantees 5 dmg. Woodland Spirit is good for weather.

Karyan is still pretty good for consume as well.

So Caranthir and Woodland Spirit for weather.

Karyan for consume.

Caretaker and Succubus for anything.

Got 1200 scrap, waiting till hotfix this week before spending them on crafting stuff. Been playing SK Morkvarg/Wild Boar archetype exclusively, and it'd be nice to have a different deck to play. Of the deck archetypes I've seen so far I think I ST spell control might be the one I want to try next, since it seems especially aggravating on the receiving end.

Any tips for SK Morkvarg/Wild Boar if you don't have the Wild Boar card on hand? I feel my strength can't get out of hand without it.
