Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Variety is important and I see way too much NG but I've seen a decent spread I feel, I've personally seen Skellige a LOT, on par if not more than monsters. Scoitael and NR are the main two standing out on the low end for me.

Still, I like that they're going through some card tweaks at a pretty quick pace. It'll atleast freshen things up.

Aside from NR, I see everyone get played. It's definitely more monsters (where I am) but scoia has that stupid spell deck and skellige has different variations of a morkvarg thing. NR does have the reaver deck which should kind of work just as well as spell scoia but the reason spell scoia is so good is because that leader they use is spell related and also placed like 19 points on the board.

Oh, if this isn't doesn't become a card then I'm totally gonna be pissed. Make it happen CDPR.

Nope, whatever I do, it's stuck at 63h. Fucking irritating.

Uh. Just got a connection error message and the other player auto won, even though I was well ahead? Not my internet. Stay clean, ranked.

There's this feeling.

When you win round 1 and you play through round 2 pretty deep into cards and then you pass at just that right moment. And your opponent sits there and just thinks and thinks and thinks. Sometimes it's the realization that they have to drop their round 3 bomb now if they want to win. Sometimes it's the realization that they are going to need 2 cards played to take this round. And all the while I just watch, feeling their heart break from halfway across the world.

That feeling is delicious.

2500 -> 2300 tilt is real boys.

I think I'm going to give up RNR for Gigni again. It's just not working. I can't force out the mage to save my life.

Maybe the problem isn't RNR but Tibor...

Okay I figured it out.

You are cruel. And I like it.

This is the opposite of salt. Is there a short, memey name for this yet?

It's a good feeling, I've had moments of those too.

The other feeling I absolutely love is when I've stumbled upon some not-so-well-known tech (or maybe just tech that for some reason fits me super well) that seemingly breaks apart the meta and just crushes foes. I had it earlier this year with Tragicstar's Monster Weather list, and while not quite the same level of outright dominance, I'm having similar vibes with Crokeyz Morkvarg list. I'm now 23-2 with it, just broke into Rank 15 at 2800 MMR.

Avallach is downright disgusting, I'd be really surprised if it doesn't get a nerf. I was worried at the start of Open Beta that between all factions getting a mulligan between rounds and muster units of various sorts that decks would be way too consistent, but Avallach is the answer to that: punish people who over-commit into consistency and reward people who commit into power instead. You want to thin your deck out completely? Go ahead, that means I draw 2 cards and you draw 0.

I'm surprised more people don't have Avallach for all this nilfgaard hate. He really does destroy the deck if people have no idea what they are doing. My only complaint when I played him is it sucks if he ends up being near the bottom of your deck. Destroys the whole deck.

I guess the opposite of salt is water.

But when you consume too much salt you're thirsty.

I hate it when you get matched up with someone who has obviously spent hundreds of dollars on kegs.

Someone played Assassination, Drought, and Tibor in the same game and they're level 8 >_>

I could still go on rants for days about celaeno harpies. It's a freaking 7 strength base bronze card that goes into 13 base strength that requires zero setup.

It's the strongest bronze unit in the game. It's better than base Geralt which requires you being behind to get the full 13 value out of.

I find Reaver hunters are way more op. As are Imperial Gollems. In the case of Imperial Gollems the value comes from the fact that you can thin your deck by 3 for free just by adding imperial gollems on it. Kinda like Foglets too.

A C. Harpy is infact one of the best bronze cards in the game. They are very flexible and fit well in all Monster decks strategies, but weather on them are devastanting for any kind of carry over plan you might have for them. And Auches just turn that potencial 13 points into 5.

I haven't spent any money and I have like 7-10 golds already.

I don't even think assassination is a good card though. It's just a weird card in this game to be a gold. Like, peter is a silver that is a minimum 9 power. But it can also value for 19 or more. For assassination to hit 19, it has to actually hit a unit with 19 power.

Disappointed that I invested heavily into this reveal deck. It doesn't really work. I mean it does but it isn't consistent at all. If the initial hand isn't perfect you're more or less done for. Lots of things that are really awful to draw into late.

The draw power of this archetype is non-existent outside of one garbage unit.

That's a shame. Started when the open beta came out and Reveal is the archetype that looks most fun to me and have been aiming to invest in it, even though I know it's not top tier. Haven't crafted anything yet as I'm waiting for the patch, but got Cynthia and Leo Bonhart from kegs. Might try to make something like a hybrid reveal deck if it's not consistent enough.

Yeah you can defintiely throw some reveal cards into another deck (like using Bonhart on a Nilfgaardian knight). The difference between full reveal and spy Calveit is that you can just keep fishing for stuff with Calveit whereas your initial hand with reveal kind of dictates how well your game will go. I even threw in Avallach to improve consistency but I don't get him a lot of the time.

Just played a dude that I assume was drunk or otherwise not in his right mind. He was ranked like 400ish too so he should know what hes doing.

Round 1 he plays 3 cards to catch up after I had passed (and had Ciri down too so if he actually took the round, thats even more card advantage for me). After playing the 3 cards, we were tied and he decided to cut his losses I guess?

So we enter the last round now with me up two cards total. I play an emissary first into whatever, doesn't matter. he eats the emissary to throw down the 12 point bear so I throw a cow carcass at it. He summons foglets, but not on the row with the bear. Then he plays that 7 point griffin or whatever that removes a row of weather but also not on the row with the bear so eats the 12 points there. Rest of the match plays out kind of normal I guess But at this point I'm up a good 30ish points, he does katakan the bear which was maybe the plan? But I used Peter on that and he forfeited afterwards.

idk guys

VILLENTRETENMERTH is not cool. Not cool at all. It would have made sense if it destroyed the top 2 cards in the same row but right its too much.

I'm just doing the daily 6 rounds in Casual mode. Want to get some new golds before I start my ranked play again. Currently rank 8.

I liked it better when you could interact more with gold cards, like dealing damage to them via other golds, etc. Killing Ciri with Radovid felt so satisfying!

Did you guys know if you zoom in (R2) on an animated card it will have additional sound effects and music? I just found this out randomly a few days ago looking at a cards description

Dropped to 2090 or something. But finally climbed back to like 2300+ again wow amazing. Even though I lost 1 game where I somehow passed while looking at a card in deck tracker..sigh. It's such a cheat though, so I turned off the card lists again, only use the mmr showing and round difference graphics because that just looks nice. And the banished list because that one doesn't matter as much and you can't see it anywhere.

Why on earth did they change it?

I think my biggest gripe with the game is that gold cards limit interactivity outside of like 2 cards in the entire game.

I hope they print more (including golds) text on cards, especially when dealing with opponent's units.

Assassinate stands out to me the most, I don't know why that can't wipe out a gold despite being a gold itself.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but when the next patch hits, won't we be able to get 14400 scraps with "just" 7200 powder?

Basically, upgrading a nerfed gold card for 400 powder, and then disenchanting it for 1600 scraps... and rinse and repeat.

Is that right?

That might be how it works, or they might make it so you can only get full value off 1 of each card. Or maybe only old cards and not newly crafted. Remains to be seen. Potentially huge mistake (for them) if they let you easily transfer powder to scraps though imo. At that point why not just sell scraps too because people coming in later might be pissed that they're effectively paying more for kegs (presumably more).

It looked like I was 10 minutes and 1 win away from both Rank 16 and Tier 2 daily rewards. I play my last card, Coral, that would have won it, but when I click to select the row nothing happens. Of course I'm panicking like crazy because I don't want to lose the game due to my game crashing. I wait till the timer runs out, nothing happens. Just to be safe I wait another 2 minutes, then alt f4.

I'm sweating bullets as I reopen the executable, turns out I got the win, but am 1(!) MMR away from Rank 16, now at 3099 MMR. Whew. Top 1000 now at least :)

Looks like I placed in rank 5 but I have zero desire to do ranked at all since I have yet to pull any gold cards from kegs since I started playing. Now it looks like my casual opponents are all way higher leveled than me, too.

I'm almost at level 10 but I doubt I'll play much ranked as every second game there seems to be a game breaking bug or disconnection. It's annoying enough just to get dailies, don't want to worry about losing MMR too. Hopefully they fix some of the issues next patch.

You're better off doing ranked as you'll actually match near your rank players which will likely be using worse decks compared to casual.

Good point, but, there's actual stakes in ranked, so I'd rather at least have some semblance of a coherent deck before I go lose all the points I started with. It would be nice to at least pull some purple cards. All this time doing my 6 round dailies and unlocking ranked and I have all of 3 purple cards I can't really use and no golds. A little disheartening.

I've only gotten one gold but I'm at rank 9 now, I found that hitting level 10 got rough in casual (like, all premium meta decks) and have had a much easier time in ranked.

I do get feeling the 'stakes' since you gain/lose points though, but I did see a pretty big change in deck quality if you can jump the mental hurdle for it.

Casual matchmakes too as far as I can tell. But do ignore player level. It really means absolutely nothing in terms of skill. You can tell how good someone might be in causal based on their rank and their MMR.

And I do think there is matchmaking in casual because when I first jumped back into casual I was playing rank 5s and after some wins I started playing rank 9s and then eventually even higher ranks. This is strong evidence that casual MMR is separate from ranked MMR.

You should do ranked though, because there are rewards for ranking up and while some of them might be lackluster some are kegs. Don't worry about losing. I mean, there is not really anything at stake in ranked. It's all the same to some extent.

You guys are right, but Overwatch taught me that I get butthurt over points too easily and I also have no confidence in myself.

Lame shit I learned today. Why can I not frost my own side? I would much rather have my 10 point unit sitting in two turns of frost instead of dying to a cow carcass. Though i was so clever then saw it wasn't an option. Lame shit.

I realized this at like the start of Open Beta when I tried to frost my own Prize Winning Cow, but that didn't work.
