Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Is there any bonus value for milling premium cards in general? Not talking about nerfed cards in the patch.

I have a keg with the option of a premium Clan Drummond Shieldmaiden or a regular Imperial Golem. I presume I should go with the Golem for mill value if I don't care to use the premium card?

No extra value from milling premiums (except for the meteorite powder).

That might be how it works, or they might make it so you can only get full value off 1 of each card. Or maybe only old cards and not newly crafted. Remains to be seen. Potentially huge mistake (for them) if they let you easily transfer powder to scraps though imo. At that point why not just sell scraps too because people coming in later might be pissed that they're effectively paying more for kegs (presumably more).

Well, I certainly hope it won't be like that, as a customer who spent a reasonable amount of cash (150€).
I mean, it would obviously be beneficial for new players and f2p ones that want to take advantage of this, but for those who are more invested into the game would not be fair, imho.

My guess is that they will cap this somehow with cards obtained or crafted before, or maybe just one time with each card... But we'll have to wait!

Wonder why they decided to do the stream during E3, bit unhandy!

Yeah E3 being this week is a bit unfortunate, but they kinda have to do a patch soon (If nothing else then to fix the outright wrong ability text on some cards Vrihedd Brigade), and they're probably planning on making larger changes (e.g. nerf Nilfgaard significantly), so what's the alternative? Not do a stream and just put the patch up?

How long till the stream?

45 mins from now

Well they had a stream last week! Could just release patch notes like normal devs! Not that I mind the streams, I love them in fact but just this week timing is a bit awkward. Seeing multiple CDPR people talking about watching E3 as well themselves lol.

That's it folks. Fuck, that was a lot to type in real time :lol

Yea like she was in closed beta, 5 seems a bit overnerf. But like they said it's just for the CA, but with Ciri at 7 there are situations where opponent has to play 2 cards sometimes, will hardly be the case with Ciri at 5..

Yeah, but Ciri's so much stronger now in Open Beta since you can always mulligan her away. I definitely think the nerf was warranted; in many cases (and I suppose I'm not the first to make this comparison) she's like a golden spy that plays on your side of the board.

Stream was short and to the point, but with it being all number tweaks I wonder what the point of having the stream at all was. Feels like you could just do a patch notes thing. Also with the changes being almost exclusively number tweaking I feel like they could just do a hotfix instead of a full patch like they did in Closed Beta, but maybe I'm missing something.

Not terribly happy with the Nerf to Reavers since NR basically has no viable archetypes now.

Hopefully the machine buffs and allowing Kaedweni Sergeants to finally be Agile will be enough to let something else work.

Sergeants + Temerian Infantry (summons all copies of itself) + Blue Stripes was already a pretty powerful combo and now that Sergeant is agile you won't be screwed on getting the trio ability off Blue stripes when they weather your front row as you currently are.

But since that combo all sort of comes out at once, Reavers were the 2nd round win condition and with Reavers being nerfed you'll be able to win 1 round no problem but the second one will be really hard.

Hopefully the machine stuff is enough to make NR competitive again because with Reavers being hurt (losing 2 each is pretty significant, and you can't shuffle back anymore either without resetting), it's really the only strong synergy the faction has.

The problem is Machines and Armor only work when there's other stuff on the field, so they're incredibly weak in round 3. And NR doesn't have a high power Gold or Silver for a last round. So the nerf to Hunters basically takes away Northern Realms primary win condition. If you lose round 1 as Northern Realms you basically lost the match. Opponent will just stall and drain you in round 2, and you have nothing to answer with in the last round.

Bears at 6 power seems like it's going to be a pain in the ass. Going to be so hard to kill and the value can end up being very very high.

Exactly. With Reaver Hunters before you had a massive threat in the 3rd round, and now that is lessened quite a bit. Even using as many combo pieces as you can this nerf takes at least 6 points off your Strength, but probably more like 8-10 depending on combo cards used (Operator, Marching Orders, etc). It's a tough sell now vs the common meta decks.

NR's other cards really need help. Some of their silvers are straight up Anti-synergy (Pavella is maybe still the worst card in the game), and the golds are not very central. Bloody Baron is not good, Dandelion is not bad, but his most frequently used card (Roach) just got nerfed too. Priscilla is awful. The faction just isn't there as a whole yet.

Might be the return of alzurs thunder, some other things at 6/7 range that you need to kill as well so. Was a card in every deck in closed beta at some point.

Agreed. Main SK mostly, and while 5 bear with no instagib on 1 power minions certainly make a hard match up that much harder, bears a 6 put them out of reach Of many 5 damage effects like Triss and Holger.

In reality the Bear at 4 or 5 is a negligible difference, since most damage is less than 4 or exactly 5, but at 6? Suddenly Alzurs Thunder is a tech card and I'm not sure that's okay for overall balance. Bears are gonna be 10+ power very often with this change.

The scrao bonus is very generous and made me buy 36 kegs, lol. I feel it'll make sense in the long run in terms of avoiding speending more due to the 36 x 30 scraps, plus milling is gonna earn another 1200 on top of what the kegs already gave me.

Only got one gold, though. A Premium Milva? Is she used at all? The effect looks quite interesting all tough the clash part might kill it.

I think I'll do the nerfed premium mill cheese thing... Probably won't backfire, right? I don't think I'll do it more than 2x, though, cause I wanna have powder on hand and I'll probably have a kings ransom of scrap

Go for it IMO.
I won't have the powder to make a legendary, but I'll sure as heck be crafting an epic. I don't see a reason not to.

She's used in Brouver decks to combo Cranmer.

30 scraps per bought keg sounds great! And going by reddit comments, devs are going to allow the powder -> scraps conversion. So, guess I'll be buying some powder once the patch hits! If I can get 10+ decent gold cards and make a couple of competitive decks, I'll be happy.

Milva is amazing! I don't have her, but she has potential to provide card advantage in multiple ways, along with being a Reset of sorts for highly buffed enemy cards. I'd include her in all my Scoia decks to be honest.

Oh my. This is great news. Thanks for the responses.

BTW, CPR said they won't give full scrap from premium leaders. So uh, don't do anything to Calveit unless you really like his animation.

I premium'd Calveit. My only regret is that I couldn't use that powder to premium something else to mill later. It's a good premium.

I transmuted my existing RNR and Tibor, managed to get enough scrap over this weekend from dailies to craft Drought and transmuted that. I then heard Borkh was going to get nerfed so I transmuted that with my last 400 meteorite powder.

I should be swimming in scrap once the patch hits :D

Yeah, I read that. I have Ciri, so might use her for the conversions.

I didn't watch anything. Did they say if that premium scrap trick would only work on cards made before the patch?

I didn't watch it either, but reading the reddit comments, it seems like you can do it even after.

Perfect timing (for scraps) :D

Why even nerf the Reavers?!. They were the only decent NR card. Now the faction is almost unplayable.

I don't get CDPR at all. Nerfing NR while buffing Monsters is exactly the opposite of what people expected -_-

Nerf list taken from stream transcibed by a reddit user. Will get full mill value for these cards.
Here's the list in text, let me know if I missed any. Remember as mentioned in the clip, this list isn't final and it may change.
*please note some of the below got listed on stream but no one can find their nerfs. They might have been mentioned accidentally or maybe the changes haven't been made public yet.

While it is true that Reavers were one of the win conditions for NR, they were OP. Devs need to balance them and then buff NR in other ways. If this makes NR played even less, then devs will buff other parts of NR, so it should eventually work out.

The problem is, they nerfed NR's only decent option, while the rest of Northern Realms got essentially the same treatment that Skellige, Monsters, and Scoi'atel got. Ultimately, this will likely end up being a net-negative for Northern Realms (and Nilfgaard, but they were obviously overrepresented).

I'm officially full tilt. Dropped from 3200 to 2850 since yesterday morning. Everyone I played today countered me perfectly except for one person who I misplayed against and lost because of the misplay.

Friday can't come soon enough, I'll keep coming back to Gwent because I like the abuse but at least I can turn it off and ignore it for a good week since I have another release to play.

If they're allowing the Meteorite -> Scraps without limit during the full refund period, then I'm getting some Meteorite for sure.

And after that/in the future I'll probably stop milling cards except during patch periods for affected cards at full value.

I almost lost a match to a bug :/

I used milva and the only other unit on the enemy side was a silver. We didn't pass yet and i had a bunch of units on my side as well

I used milva a million times before and that moment sucked regardless if I won or not.

This patch can't come soon enough. Almost everyone i play regardless of faction uses ragnarok and drought now
