.hack//G.U. Last Recode (HD remaster, PS4 and PC) coming out

Reading over the changes list and some of those sound good, but it sounds like they made it much easier which is weird considering G.U. wasn't hard and neither was IMOQ.

I played through all seven games at least twice back in the day and 100% completed both series. I originally preferred the story line of IMOQ, but G.U. grew on me to a point where I now prefer it more. Didn't IMOQ have a quest in the last game to collect every single piece of equipment? I remember things like they wanted you to have the basic weapons and armor that you probably sold off four games ago and were stupidly hard to re-acquire by the last game. And I think you only got something like a wallpaper for your effort.

At the end of the day, I'm absolutely stoked to play the G.U. trilogy again, while on the other hand I have no desire to touch IMOQ again unless those games get some serious revamping in the gameplay department. I very much remember that, especially with the last game, the enemy balance really started to get bad with every dungeon being a huge slog even when overleveled. I still feel weary when thinking about my efforts to 100% complete Quarantine. I'm completely fine with a G.U. remaster that has some tweaks, but the original games need a huge update, if not an outright remake if I'm ever going to consider playing them again.

Yeah didn't the first series only apply damage on the enemies that are on screen when hit by attacks?

Quoting for new page, and because I've only just now seen it myself:
I completely disagree ... I eagerly devoured them as they were released and had a great time. In any case, if you read all the changes to this, it's like the directors said - they're pretty much remaking everything anyway.

Haseo with an unfamiliar look appears…
I'm glad to see Terminal Disk content being included, as I consider it part of the G.U. experience. It not only gives you a general overview of what happens in the first .hack games through the eyes of a third-party, but it continues on and sets the stage for the crisis that leads to the creation of the next version of 'The World' that the second series takes place in.

Hopefully "high-resolution movies" means they still have access to the original movie files and not be forced to upscale PS2-res FMV. All of the major plot scenes are done in fmv, like Xenosaga.

I expect the three titles will be accessed via a game selection screen ala any other Remaster Collection (the easiest way, really), but I secretly hope that they can join the games up so that they flow directly into each other as you complete them, allowing you to carry over your progress immediately. Probably not doable since all three games include meta content that unlock after completing the main campaigns, credit sequences, etc.

As far as dubbing is concerned, my only real issue was Alkaid. That VA just could NOT pull off tomboy, good grief.

I don't think the concern is actual challenge so much as frustration. They probably want to lower the barriers so people can just play through the story without being annoyed, so they can get excited for the next .hack product that CC2 is presumably making.

GU was never really difficult to begin with. It was always about style and presentation. These improvement look like they just make things move quicker and not waste the players time.

:(

I liked Alkaid dub. :(

I really hope they just forget everything after .hack//G.U. existed and just make a sequel from Vol 3 on.

Gaf, is it worth it to hunt down the first 4? I played the very first and moderately enjoyed the few hours I've put in. But I fear that's too much gaming for too little value as a busy adult now.

Been meaning to find GU, but now that they're remastering all 3 together, I might let this be my entire .hack fix. Plus the //sign since it's only 26 episodes.

What do you think?

Not really...

While the story is pretty good for the first 4, the gameplay and graphics have not been kind to it. It simply not fun to play and it's a long 4 games.

I can't wait for this. I own the original quadrilogy on PS2, but never got around to playing the G.U trilogy so I'll definitely take a new HD version ESPECIALLY if it could lead to more .hack games further down the line.

I just realized something. This is getting an actual PC release in Japan right? Which would mean that it has to have Japanese sound files, which means that if a potential localized version is dub-only, an undub patch would be possible. Right?

But will there be more than one damn healer until endgame this time?

Also I don't get, you can marry everyone now? Are they adding events?

...there's no easy way to play the original series, right? After enjoying watching SIGN like 5 or 6 years ago I wanted to track them down and continue the series, but even then they were a little too pricey for me. I feel like it's kinda weird for them to be remaking the second series with no accessible way to play the first?

It's weird if they're doing this as a potential revival for the series in the West (and I imagine they must be with them updating the game and adding an additional form) they would start with GU and not IMOQ.

If we somehow get updated versions of IMOQ...whew.

I really hope they don't make the games even easier. I don't mind quality of life improvements but I don't want them to make the games a total cakewalk.

I wonder if I should sell my PS2 copies while they still have some value. I've even got two copies of Reminisce. I found the second copy at a thrift store for only 6 dollars two-ish years ago. Maybe I should wait to see if this HD remaster actually gets localized first. I'm a little worried that it might not.

Man...I know it's a love it or hate it for a lot of people, but .Hack//Sign is such a nostalgic anime for me. Me and my sister would watch it together at least once every summer for years. Even now it's a great show to just put on in the background if only for the amazing music.

.hack has so much potential as a series. I hope this includes some kind of movie recap of the original games, I never completed them and am actually really interested in the story

My heart goes out to anyone brave enough to track down the original IMOQ titles. Please remember that they were released in the early 2000s, so the standard for anime-related games was kinda ass. A lot of the charm stemmed from its futuristic version of the Internet and online gaming in general. As a child that never really dabbled with online gaming until some years after the IMOQ series, it seemed like the coolest future possible. Playing crazy VR MMOs with friends was the dream, man.

You may stay for the story and the characters, but the combat is stiff and very ugly. Twinblades are also boring as hell from a combat persective, so try not to hate on your party members with cooler weapons and classes.

Edit: Shoutouts to all the Pi Lovers. Y'all the real ones.

I can't really see a difference in the gameplay shots, but it has been a bit since I played the PS2 games so maybe it's improved. Did the CG always look that good?

^ pretty much my reason for loving it.

Also, whaaat you didn't like spinning like a beyblade? Or doing an attack that keeps you in position for like 5 seconds as you do mediocre damage?

I still wish Fragment would have taken off T.T playing as other classes would have been amazing

I refuse to accept that .hack has more fans than Xenosaga.

Also, where the FUCK is Link? Port that game.

the whole point of the remaster is that they are rebooting .hack series to move forward.
xenosaga would be just hd remaster and nothing more after that, since xeno team (monolith) is in Nintendo making xeno games there.
I would love xenosaga HD remaster but it's a bit different situation I think.

Put it on Switch and rework it to tie into Xenoblade X. Call it Xenoblade X Origins: Xenosaga.
I'm a Xeno fan like you. .Hack is a lot more popular.
I don't have to accept facts.

Also, the .hack mobile game was really good too.
