Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming |OT| PC/Steam - April 4th

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
Ahh, figured. Might just stick with my PS3 controller since that's been working out well so far, though figuring out the mapping of the controls might take some time.

I'm using my DS4 and it works out pretty great. Dat dpad. <3

I'm using the Xbox360 wireless controller and yeah, the D-Pad isn't that good.
By the way, I'm on quest 15 or 16 and it's really amazing, tons of party members too and just unlocked
classes change.
As soon as I saw Yashu, I knew he would be some kind of rival :p

While I do or at least did feel like there were a lot of cutscenes. I think if the first game didn't bother you with the constant showing title then credits, etc etc. Don't see why this would. Although, at first I'll admit it is a tad bit excessive. I am actually enjoying the cutscenes

I wouldn't say it bothered me, but that was always one of my major complaints with the first game.

Anyway, it's good to hear that.

Awesome, thanks for doing another giveaway. Played the first game last night & while keyboard works fine for Evil Lord & Hero, DAMN does it suck for Princess. Time to use MotioninJoy & my PS3 controller.

I can't use a 360 controller on my laptop if it's the charge & play battery kind, right? Has to be wired?

Never use motion joy.

Just use the xinput wrapper for the DS3 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=59385385&postcount=102

There's about an hour left on another giveaway for The Second Coming on Page Seven.

Entered in the last minute! Thanks!

So I can confirm the discount works if you redeem the first game before buying the second.

I am very mixed on this game. The Hero mode has been made better and the quest maker mode is pretty awesome. My main problems are the KB controls kind of suck and it pretty much is the same gameplay over and over. The first game had more variety in game style. So far a 3/5 and going to try an X360 controller

Missed the second giveaway?! Urgh. Thanks anyway, having so many giveaways for a recently released niche game is incredibly generous.

You have thirty seconds. Times a lot. Whatever makes three hours.

I just started the game, so maybe I'm not able to do it yet, but how do you replay quests once you've beaten them?

Also, in the gallery, there are a bunch of things at the bottom of the lists that say "DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT REQUIRED"

Not that my persona business is important here, but our new flooring is installed. It's made our house go from "creepy old people used to live here" to "clean, modern and sexy." They're cleaning up and then I just have to move a few things back. Of course, why I'm posting about that is because that's what's been holding me up from playing this since yesterday, haha.

I have a strict "1 thing at a time" rule so I want to finish the book I'm reading first. only 100 pages to go so I expect to get to HMH2 tonight after that

Ran into a cool glitch that took away most of my equipment, won't let me use the Goddess Statues to warp/retry old levels or switch between campaigns so I'm permanently stuck on the last continent of Overture 30 even though I was a few stages into Judgement 30. Cool.

So SparkleMotion entered the raffle after stating he was already playing.

Even though in the rules:

Damn that sucks! Someone else had a similar problem in the last page or so

makes good threads.
Oculus Rift thoughts:

I was just expecting a black screen with the game in front, but it was nice to be put in a room with the game playing on a 50 inch TV. The room is pretty bare though. Think Street Fighter IV's training grid with a carpet and TV. There is a bit of a pop out effect with some of the dialogue and sprites that makes it more than just viewing the game on another TV. The game was perfectly playable and readable in the DK1, and I played a good hour of it without feeling nauseous.

A few suggestions for a future Rift update:

- I would love to have a couple of "skins" for the room itself (unless that's one of the things you unlock later on). Changing the mood of the room would definitely enhance the game experience.

- Theater mode: Instead of viewing the game on a TV, have an option where I can view it on a giant screen against the wall. The Rift does an excellent job at giving a sense of scale, and it'll be cool to play something like Half Minute Hero on an enormous screen than just another TV.

- A button to re-center the view. My screen was going a bit off center over time.

- Some kind of interactivity between game and the room. For example, progressing through the game could add objects (trophies, rugs, furniture, posters, etc) to the environment I was sitting in. I know this would require some work, but it'll be cool to see something like this down the road, even if it's a future game.

One more? One more.

Yeah, it really chapped my hide but it only took me like an hour to start a new game and get back to where I was before.

I have no idea what caused it, but I'm gonna recommend making multiple save files once in a while (save in story mode, back out to mode select, go to options and choose the save option). Based on what I did beforehand, it might have something to do with fooling around with custom maps or changing character names under the option menu. (Specifically, I changed the 1P on a custom map to the red-haired hero. Although custom maps appear to have their own save slots, I wonder if there's some messed-up overlap since in the story mode glitch I was facing my character only had the red-haired hero's equipment in his inventory).

Please note I know literally nothing about programming or how games work or computers or anything so all of this is speculation.

Played about 5 hours today, and I've loved every second. Really brings back the feeling I had playing the first game on my PSP some years ago.

Once again, many many thanks to COPLonesteban and PixyJunket for the giveaway.

I played for a little under an hour and had to drop out (exhausted from this week and today).

Music is BOSS MODE, yup.

Cutscenes are definitely more meaty as noted, hopefully they'll lighten up.

I'm not sure how I feel about the persistent level and world map yet.

Anyway, I have most of tomorrow to play, I'm just glad I got to get a little taste after waiting for so long.

I just spent several hours playing and got through all over Overture and Judgement. There's some small quibbles I have with the game (I'm not a huge fan of the change of tone in the game, or the number of cutscenes) but the core game is still solid as anything.

After finishing Judgment, I figured to give Endless an attempt before I went off to do some housework and...

...not much of anything got done. D: #3 in the world on that leaderboard.

Anyone interested in playing some multiplayer sometime? I looked online but nobody seemed to have an open room.

Also thinking of streaming this game, could be good fun.

I'm down to play tomorrow (or later on), I'm about to crash tonight.

Woo, congrats.

I played for about an hour earlier and I had a blast. Can't wait to dig deeper.

I wish I played more of the HD release on Steam... but unfortunately, I played too much on 360 beforehand. :( But this is different!

I WILL get your sailor uniform outfit, Goddess!

Whoa, I won. Thank you so much COPLonesteban, and Pixy! My PC is really bad, so I'm going to save myself the embarrassment of trying the benchmark leader boards, haha.

because you don't need to see the credits everytime, but if you skip cutscenes you can't follow the story.

btw i am ten hours in and the game doesn't get any better. Why the heck i can't swim or use a boat. Missions from the first were more varied and bosses were funny and silly... the bad guys in this game just don't have any personality. And secrets were better hidden and more awesome.

I said that under the assumption that those who are complaining about the cutscenes don't really care about the story at all.

I just got done beating Bullwood, it was a pretty awesome fight. Judgement is mixing it up a lot more than Overturn.

We should definitely get some multiplayer matches going, because i haven't had any luck just randomly trying to start one

Is there a way to tell how much stamina you have for dashing? I've screwed myself a few times expecting to dash back to town only to run out of juice and then time over

Oh snap! Does dashing deplete your hp?

In quests yes, on the world map between quests it doesn't.

Edit: To be more specific, dashing in quests outside of villages will use your HP. On the map or in battle. In non-quest areas it will never drain (whether on the map, in villages, in battle, or global dungeons).

Posted my Oculus Rift thoughts and suggestions over in the Steam thread and thought I'd share the response I got:

Bernhard Schelling (OPUS) [developer]:

Thanks for your post and the ideas. Yeah it would be very cool to extend the feature as you suggested. Maybe after DK2 is out or when we're closer to a consumer release.

Here's a few exclusive fun secret tricks for the VR mode, even addressing some of your points :)

Keys
With numlock on, there are a few things that can be manipulated.
Numpad Keys 2,8,4,6: Transform the screen according to the mode
Numpad Key 1: move mode
Numpad Key 3: rotation mode
Numpad Key 7: Z axis move/rotation
Numpad Key 9: stretch mode
Numpad Key 5: Reset transformation
Holding CTRL: transforms only the floating UI elements.
Holding ALT: finer transformation
Numpad Key /: toggles rift lens rendering
Numpad Key *: reset motion sensor
Numpad Keys +,-: Resize the virtual background

Custom Images
Placing image files with special names into the games data folder (right-click title in Steam library -> local files -> browse local files) can make them show up in the VR mode, replacing the default ones. Can be reloaded in the game by pressing ALT+Enter twice.

OVR_TV.PNG

The monitor border texture. Uses PNG alpha channel for transparent areas.
A 512x400 texture in which the game gets renders into the pixels in the area 48,48 -> 463,281

OVR_BG.PNG

The background spherical panorama.
There are a lot of usable images on the internet, and guides how to make your own with photos by searching for "spherical panorama". Some Android phones also have an easy built in spherical panorama mode in the camera app.

A fun way to get usable panorama images is from Google Streetview. How?
1. Go to oculus street view like:
http://oculusstreetview.eu.pn/?lat=-23.442896&lng=151.90658400000007
2. Paste this into the url input field and press enter (without the "): "javascript:document.body.innerHTML='<img>';document.body.lastChild.src=panoLoader.canvas.toDataURL();void0;"
2. Another way to get the image is to press F12 and paste this into the console and press enter: "document.body.innerHTML='<img>';document.body.lastChild.src=panoLoader.canvas.toDataURL();1;"
3. After giving the browser some time to think, it should be possible to do right click -> copy image and paste the image into any image editor and save it as OVR_BG.PNG
(tested on FireFox and Chrome)
