Halo 2 street date broken

As of right now, there's 17 copies on eBay. A bunch are buy it now for $75. Hah.

I'll go pick up my copy at TRU on the 9th, and then let it sit in shrink for weeks while I do school work, lawlers.

call? thats it?

they should kill the ceo's dog. then we'll see if they break street dates anymore. hehe

I was just asking a co-worker at Best Buy tonight, that if we get it early if I could buy it. He said HELL NO, if you sell the game before Street date you are fired with no questions asked. Because of Lawsuits and all that. A assistant manager that was working there sold hisself The Lord of the Rings before it was release day and was fired on the spot by corporate. I hope Microsoft takes this store chain through the ringer. I really hate when people don't follow guidelines, Nov. 9th was supposed to be something special. :)

Street dates get broken. It happens. Games get leaked. It's better to make sure that all the stores have it on Nov. 9th and deal (via hefty fines) with those that break street date than to heavily advertise a date and not have your product in most stores on that day.

By the way, my Meijer (Muncie, IN) was a bust. And yea, at least here, they only sell games from 7am-11pm.

K. Just finished the first level. There is a clear difference between gameplay Master Chief and cut scene masterchief. I had a few drops in frame rate and one brief freeze -- it could've been due to being hooked up to XBL and my modem going in and out.
Or just a hiccup.

How can you post this and Nov. 9th isn't here?

Ummm, probably the last thing I would be doing is being on Xbox Live if I got a huge game early.....I wouldn't be suprised if you get a call from MS asking you questions. (happened to my TRU store with WarCraft 3)

So what if Microsoft did decide to call you up? All they would be interested in is which store you picked it up at. They can't do anything to the end-consumer for a retailer breaking a street-date.

I don't think it would matter if he's on XBL since he owns a legitimate copy. It's not his fault meijer broke the street date.

Who cares? I don't have to tell them where I got it, and it's none of their business.

This is very early.

We've had similar recently in the UK, and when one store breaks street date, everyone follows suit - they can't afford not to.

So for GTA:SA, the distributor put in place a 'contract' that had to be signed by retailers before getting stock early. It said that they agreed not to sell early, or they get penalised by late stock. Every time they breach the contract, they get their stock delayed by 3 days. One breach, and they don't get shipments until the release date. Two breaches and they get no stock for release weekend.

I believe this news. We weren't told that we would be fired, but that the store would be fined BIG TIME per infraction. Which of course would probably lead to being fired, but they never told us that, and I don't think we ever really had an issue with it.

I would not be surprised to see the Wal-Marts in Quebec break the street date on Halo 2. Most of their employees are probably too "good in english" to even understand what November 9 means.

OK, you got the game legally (at least legally from your side) but you still can't talk about it until Nov 9th, OK?

Why on earth does Microsoft have to get games in a stores a full week before the release date?? They seem to do this A LOT. They are practically begging for shit like this to happen.

you have to consider the scale, and the fact they want to MEET DEMAND on the 1st day.
Yeah, but they do this all the time. Everybody and their mother was selling PGR2 before the street date. Even frigging Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

Other publishers seem to be capable of getting copies of their games distributed with a week of lead time.

Because the RELEASE date is Nov. 9th. So yes he Paid for it, but NO HE DID NOT OBTAIN IT LEGALLY.

As far as I can tell, he broke no laws.

Maybe some contracts were breached by someone else, but that is hardly his problem. If it's such a big deal, why weren't people up in arms when TRU was selling Outrun 2 a week early? OMFG IT'S ILLEGAL kjfiajfsidfj0w9

Hey when it's on display in the store and I ask a clerk if I can have 2 copies of that neat looking silvery game with the "2" on it and he unlocks the safe and makes sure I go through the check-out lane. It's just like buying anything else.

Guess I know where I'll be going once I put on some pants. The great thing about Meijer stores is they're basically run like a Wal-Mart or Target ('cept with better food items) -- if the VG section isn't staffed, you can just pick up the red phone and beckon a generic clerk. They don't give a rat's ass about street date concerns (especially since they usually get games in days late).

If they have Halo 2, I'll pick it up along with some soda, some Jelly Belly's, and probably whatever frozen pizzas are on sale for 4/$10.00

By the way -- This Saturday, Meijer is running a Buy One Game, Get the 2nd for 50% off promotion.

I got the game as well, but I can't go into details, because I'm afraid someone will get fired.

As far as I can tell, that bried 'freezing' is the next segment of the level loading.

Of course he did. God damn. What law do you suggest he broke? Now Microsoft and the retailer have a private contract.. and that contract may have been violated, but the consumer has done zero wrong.

Holy shit, your reciept will be just like mine ;)
Natch.

Microsoft NZ have forced videogame store staff to sign individual contracts stating it wont be sold until midnight the 9th. Break the date = serious misconduct = instant sacking.

bloody hell. Let the guy post impressions if he wants. Just have an official Halo2 impressions thread, but warn people it may contain spoilers. You don't *have* to enter.
