Forge is good at switching out weapons on maps, rebalancing them, moving around some vehicles and spawns, but above that it's a bit too constrained. I understand the need for a budget but there is no point in having it when you can't place as many of X item as you want (while still staying within the budget).

And not allowing certain vehicles limits it even more. I could understand not being able to place a Scorpion on Narrows, but not being able to place a Prowler on Valhalla or a Gauss Hog on any other map than Last Resort (that I know of, can't seem to place one on Valhalla, Sandtrap or High Ground).

Even if Bungie thinks that having a shitload of Hogs on Snowbound would make it unplayable I should still have the option to put them there, as long as I stay under budget. If the map is then unplayable then I or my friends won't play it.

Though I have some hope for a patch or DLC, freeing up Forge a little or adding some more objects, or actually allowing me to put my Gauss Hogs on Valhalla, cause without them my Coagulation remake falls a little short :p

Oh wow, I totally forgot about Gauss Hogs! Yeah that needs to be opened up.
Limiting vehicles to certain maps seems silly to me as well. And I to am dying to fool around with a prowler in multi.

EDIT: But like I said b4, I'm not a forger. I'm into the competative aspect of the game and if it exists outside the playlists... I usually dont get too deep into it. So for me weapon remixes done in forge is all I could ever ask for.

I don't like how certain environment objects can be used on Last Resort (road block, cones, etc.) but they cannot be used on others like Valhalla and Sandtrap.

You also won't see certain weapons (Carbine, for instance) on Valhalla or Sandtrap.

Somone want to fill me in on how the rankings work. I'm playing with three guys last night, win 10 games in a row before we level up. Two of us level up twice, the other two only leveled up once. We play another five or six games, win all of those in dominating fashion. We lose, ONE game and everyone levels down. What the fuck?
 
Something annoying about leveling up in Halo 3 is that when I level the match after that, if I lose, I'll drop right back down a level.

I remember reading somewhere back in the day that in Halo 2 they didn't like that and made it so that when you leveled you were actually a bit above that level so you didn't immediately drop back down. Minor but I preferred that way psychologically.
 
The whole not-being-able-to-place-certain-weapons is bizarre, as well as the fact you can't always spawn with them. Why can't I get players to spawn with Plasma Rifles and Carbines?!


Here's my patch wish-list

Campaign

*Add an infinite ammo/grenade regeneration skull for campaign (which would disable scoring and achievements)

In Forge ...

*Allow all weapons to be placed on a map
*Allow players to place object spawns in the air without using crates.
*Allow players to disable physics for certain items, or otherwise make them unmoveable
*Allow players to remove shield doors
*Loosen the restrictions on certain types of object, such as crates. Allow more to be spawned providing the budget is not met.

Customization

*Allow players to edit all powerups (a la the beta). Being able to customise Overshield or camo strength would be very useful.
*Allow players to spawn with all weapons (e.g. Plasma Rifles and Carbines need to be added to the list).

Networking

*Remove the timing issue with melee attacks, and ensure that the winner of a melee battle is the one that hits first, i.e. the window for attacks is 0ms.
*Tighten the ping filter on "Prefer Good Connection" from 200ms to 100ms.
 
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why the budget can't act as the measurement to deter users from building 'too much.' I think some of their customization options, whether when creating a gametype variant or building a map variant are strange. I'll take a budget constraint, that's understandable, but why can't I select any weapon as a starting or secondary weapon? Why can't I put a Gauss Hog on Valhalla? Why can't I place containers on any map within that budget? Strange indeed.

Mine was repaired at the end of august and lasted for a month in time to finish Bioshock and die again at halo3 launch day. Tried to repair once more but didnt work so i had to buy a new one (Pal instead of Asia, so now 90% of my games are useless)

Interested in that too. Not sure yet how the Skill/EXP works.
 
I hate to quit harping on this, but MELEE IS BREAKING THIS GAME.

I am losing every fucking melee encounter I have. Every single one. There is absolutely no reason wny the person who melees first should not win the encounter. I swear its almost like something has happened in the last 3 or 4 days that has changed the melee system. Before this week I would at least win half the encounters.

I am so frustrated...it puts me in a horrific mood.

Does anyne think that if I open my NAT that may help some?

Not in the slightest. NAT will affect your ability to connect with other players depending on their NAT settings. It has nothing to do with network performance.

nah i have an open nat and i cant win melee battles either even though i hit them first everytime.

they need to patch this game.

I'm not havin' nearly as much of a problem with the Melee as some of you...perhaps you should quit relying on it so heavily, and only try it when you're fairly certain you can kill the guy. If I'm weak I'll just back pedal and bounce grenades off a wall hoping it kills him as he's trying to come in for the melee, lol.

I'm the same. I have problems with them, but nowhere near as bad as some people here. Doesn't make the problem any less derivative of the game though.

Different playstyle. I haven't played in a couple of days. When I do fire it back up, I'm gonna try to switch it up and stay away from melee combat.

That's the thing...I'm not relying on it much at all. And I only try to use when I'm fairly certain I can kill the guy.

Anyway, just playing the last few days I'm not sure if I've gotten worse or if the competition has gotten better. I've had about 4 days in a row where I've lost just as many matches as I've won and my K/D ratio is somewhere in the -5 to +5 range after ten or so nightly matches. This seems to be the same with most of the people I play with too. I honestly have no idea how some people are getting into the 30+ rank ranges with K/D of 1.5 or better.

I think I probably need to not play for a couple of days.

You probably need to play more. Start getting a little better. It just takes some practice. Not so much you can do about the melees though. That's in Bungie's court.

After reading a lot of the complaints about forge's limitations, I got to thinking about why they would do that. Then I remembered something that was similar to what I was reading a bit earlier about memory in computers.

Why I think they don't allow all weapons/items/vehicles on every map is because to load them all up at once would have a negative effect on memory. Now you might say that the budget is the memory amount... not so. Every weapon/item/vehicle has to be loaded into memory regardless if its being used or not (at least in forge). Otherwise it would take time for all the data appropriate to every item be cached from the dvd and into memory. Not only that they would have to deal with the potential of too much memory being used at once and causing issues of being able to play forge at all.

To further explain, every weapon/item/vehicle you spawn is an instance of the original in the memory. When you spawn multiple they are basically referencing the original memory block that held the data for the model and texture information to minimize memory utilization. So a lot of copies can be made with not a lot of memory usage, but a lot of unique things takes up more memory. I believe though that every object regardless of being a reference has an overhead in memory as in location and state, and since a lot of objects can be damaged, there is that as well.

Also I believe that the budget listed is actually a soft limitation for when the maps are used outside of forge. When there can be up to 16 players on a map at a time. Then they only have enough things available to place that if every one was played to its maximum in the budget the map would still function with 16 players and not have any negative performance issues (well outside of having every fusion coil spawn and explode continuously for great moments of fun). It makes sense when you see that forge has an 8 player limitation which means it has more memory on hand to deal with the map making process and the load of the chaos that usually ensues in group forge games.

So now you might be wondering why only certain things for certain maps, I think it is a combination of the above limitations and trying to make sense of the map lore. Notice that they focus on covenant stuff on covenant maps and so on with human ones. It was a design choice to make sure that the maps looked good, played good and were fun.

Now I to would love more control, but I am not sure if they will ever give it, I think it really depends on a lot of factors we have no control or knowledge of. As it stands, they have done an awesome job and should be commended on the power they have given us as gamers and creators. I know other games have had map editors and such, but not only did they give us something to edit things around, they made another game mode for us to play in and have fun (at least with the honor system).
 
I'd like to hear some stance from Bungie on the melee front. Is it going to be addressed or is it something that we're stuck dealing with? People obviously aren't happy with it now so I personally think it should be addressed. I just want to hear what Bungie has to say about it.

Can someone explain to me why I have such a shitty connection for this game? At first I thought it was my router but even when I connect the 360 directly to my cable modem it seems I get 1 or 2 bars 80% of the time. My d/l and u/l speeds are fine ( I have the Comcast Premium HSN). I'm to the point where I'm considering trying out DSL for a month to see if that makes a difference (no FIOS yet).

Argh.

They're not a problem, but it would be nice to see something different (Carbine on Valhalla/Sandtrap, more Gauss Hog appearances, Plasma turret appearances, etc.).

In the matchmaking menu, if you press 'x' a menu will pop up allowing you to choose how matchmaking works. Try selecting the option to search for the best connection, rather than the fastest available game or closest skill range. Most of the time the skill range will be around yours. There isn't as much (or any) lag when you select that.

I am as well disappointed, but I just was explaining the technical reasons, as far as I can tell based on my experience. Hopefully they will figure out a way to give us more, because we want and need it to express ourselves fully!

That's your problem! Or one of them anyway; Comcast is not a good ISP for gaming, especially if you host games, due to poor traffic prioritisation. Though if you pay for a premium service, and get such a poor connection, something is likely up with your line.

Someone with broadband speeds, unless they're slightly faster than dial-up, should be able to play lag-less games in theory.

(Also if you have a Comcast host and host a game with overseas players, they will almost certainly have a terrible experience; Comcast's oversubscribed lines and poor optimisation result in quite a bit of overseas time-critical traffic exceeding it's Time To Live, meaning stuff like headshots etc never gets there.)


My Xbox died last night. I have to live vicariously through you guys now.

Towel trick: it's keeping mine over until my new one arrives, at which point I'll send the old one in for repair.

Though I think mine might be unusual in that a relatively minor part of the console seems damaged, possibly the bios/loader parts, as if the console starts, it works perfectly. If I turn it off, and turn it back on again, most of the time it fails to start, and very little has changed in the past few seconds!

I certainly don't get any random crashes, graphical glitches, or so on that most people seem to get with the ROD.

Well I honestly don't understand the stupid limitations like the different warthog or the prowler, I was just explaining what I thought might be the general reason they just don't allow everything on any map.

I haven't unlocked any of them unfortunately. Did you not kill any juggernauts? That is interesting, I haven't seen a juggernaut gametype yet in mm.

We need to play some zam, though I fear you're much better than myself, it should still be fun though.

Something is definitely up. My upload speed is 695 Kb/s - and that is testing with a wireless b connection. I'd assume my 360 connection which is connected via LAN would be as fast or faster.

Trying to get a triple sword kill in Lone Wolves, I managed to get this medal

Slice 'N Dice: 10 sword kills in a row without dying...and no triple kill achievement :(

It's the last achievement I need and it's making me very frustrated. Tried to get it for about 2 hours and no luck. Very hard and it's making me angry. Wanted to get it before going to Uni again, but I probably want it too hard, so I played cramped. When other games come up I play very relaxed (cause I don't want to level, making it harder to get that triple sword kill) and ironically I play some of my best Halo then.
Did a slayer match on guardian concentrating on killing people with the plasma nade just for fun and got 14 stickies :p

I like that idea. Say it ends in a tie, 2-2 or whatever, the team with most time gained wins.

There should be a "Rifles Only" selection, and there'll mostly be BR's on the map. Likely only one Sniper Rifle and maybe a Carbine, if the map has it (Forge, ugh).

They really need to spice up Social matchmaking with exotic gametypes (infection, spies vs mercs, (laser) juggernaut, race games, etc) and maps (more unusual and diverse weapon placement).
I hope they dedicate a couple of social hoppers to community stuff cause atm it doesn't do enough justice to the breath of diverse gameplay experienes you're able to get out of Halo.

Hmm every time when snowbound gets a 5/5 veto, Isolation shows up as punishment. :(

Also shield doors and bubble shields are too gamebraking in Oddball. I like the mode but the games are over way too fast and sometimes it feels like it was never playtested. :(
 
I read that theres a bug with unlocked armour, where it can vanish and say its locked? because right now I cannot seem to use those huge sholder pads I unlocked a few weeks back and the game says they are locked again.. oh well. Using the Mk.V look anyway.

I'm starting to figure out ways to kill to some degree without lag playing much part, melee is totaly out of the question as it's broken so I just whore the carbine and BR, shottie works well if you get first hit but i'll still lose in a beating down contest.

Me and my cousin just play doubles lately, much less spam and good map choices.
